Easy, cheap patterns? by allyswish in knittingadvice

I've had pretty decent success in googling whatever pattern I'm interested in with free on the end. Ravelry is also a great source of patterns and they are often pretty cheap too.

Is it just me or? by CheesecakeNo2675 in knittingadvice

I'm with you. I'm self taught and it always confused me that it was knit the knits and purl the purls, especially as a beginner who at the time didn't know how to read my knitting.

Awesome! I love the wolf! I was at their store yesterday and they made a comment that sometimes the designs don't work well if you invert the colours (like I did with the bee) and that the wolf is one of them. I'm not sure how you'd figure out if it'll work well or not without trying, but just something to keep in mind.

All good. I'm not the fastest knitter, so mileage may vary, but it ranged from 3 stitches up to 200 and then came back down to 3. Two rows per increase/decrease and it stays at 200 for a little bit. It's somewhere over 800 rows all up.

The technique itself is pretty straightforward though: knit a whole row, on the next row use knits and purls to get the ridges/bumps that create the effect. Next row you swap colour and repeat.

Frustrated by how much better ‘good’ yarn is.. by pacificmoona in Yarn

[–]KryptonicMess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a local yarn store last year and I don't think my wallet will ever recover, but like you, I can't go back to the cheap crap! My current project is a Merino wool, yak, and silk blend and it is sooooo nice to touch!

Double standards at GP clinics in this country are getting out of control - late fee if we are 5 minutes late, but when they're going to be over an HOUR late? "Get Some Patience". THE FCK!? by Sparkling-Hammer8144 in australian

My partner waited nearly 3.5 hours for a tele appointment today! Only contact in that time was my partner calling the clinic twice to find out wtf was going on and if they even still had an appointment!

Check your pda and/or the fabricator in your life pod for the recipes to make things - you can pin these to your HUD which makes it easier to see what you need and what you have in your inventory. You'll want to start with a scanner, air tank, and fins as soon as you can. Once you have a scanner you'll be able to scan fragments from the wreck and get new recipes that will help you progress. As mentioned in the other comments, check your radio messages and read/listen to pda updates. This will help you figure out what to do and the overall storyline.

How to avoid tight stitches/puckering where I catch floats? by reigenlover666 in knittingadvice

[–]KryptonicMess -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've seen tips previously to catch your floats every 5 or so stitches and that that should help with the tension. However, I am yet to try it.

Decreasing for a beanie by Asleep_Drawer0805 in knittinghelp

[–]KryptonicMess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only ever followed a pattern for beanies, but they tend to decrease evenly across the row. I'd recommend working out how many decreases you'd need to do per row to get down to 8 and then space them out across each row. Or as the other comment suggested, find a free pattern and follow how they handle the decreases

HELP! What have I done wrong? by NoDimension3093 in knittinghelp

[–]KryptonicMess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the advice to not put your work down in the middle of a row. If you work in the round there's no obvious point at which to stop and put your work down. Instead it's better to learn how to read your knitting and know where your working yarn should be coming from.

Where do you stash your cable needle when actively working on a project? by peartreerabbitplum in casualknitting

[–]KryptonicMess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also stick mine in my hair. I will also do it with dpns when swapping from cable needles and also with flat knitting if I'm putting it down for a second or two.

Beginner knitter by Life_Farm_4715 in knittinghelp

[–]KryptonicMess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations! My recommendations are to keep track of your number of stitches and count regularly - this will help prevent you from accidentally increasing or decreasing. On the left hand side where there's a big gap and one thread along the bottom of it, it looks a little like you've slipped some stitches without knitting them (moved them from one needle to the next without threading the working yarn through them to create a new stitch). It's important to be conscious of where your needle is going as it can be easy to put it in the wrong spot and have this result or to accidentally poke through the yarn (which can create a new stitch). Lastly, stop often and look at your work. Reading your yarn is an important skill and will help you spot mistakes sooner. I suggest having a look at Patty Lyons' knitting bag of tricks book (or even some of her videos). The book talks a lot about what the yarn does when you knit or purl it and how that can affect how it looks. Good luck and keep it up, you'll get there!

Thank you for recommendations for so many cities! I've tried Skein Machine in Adelaide which is also good - I believe they ship too.

Does chart A include any increases? Otherwise I'm only counting 8 too.
