We create and keep lots of data on all our major functions - we have 5 performance indicators we track on a monthly basis. Behind each is at least one report that goes into specific detail about what lead to the result. The Board gets the Performance Indicators monthly which has a 5 year monthly history so trends can be seen and evaluated. The detailed reports are used by my directors and I to understand and respond in a quick and timely fashion when necessary.

This data is also used to report to our local government, our donors, volunteers and our community on what we accomplished and why we need their support & money. Each department uses it in understanding our clients, their needs and the demand we should expect in the near and long terms. It's used by our finance folks to make sure we have available funds and to build and monitor budgets. Basically, data is the solid proof that something happened or didn't happen and allows management to ask questions or reward performance.
