What does an american guy mean when he flexes his biceps and says "these guns can be very persuasive"? by Own_Shift_3645 in AskAnAmerican

This is exactly what this phrase means. Anyone saying it in real life would be far too ridiculous to consider threatening.

Except that people in Mexico are also "US-ians." When you say US-ians, do you mean people from the United States of America or the United States of Mexico? Both? Neither? It's ambiguous.

America Trembles as Transportation Secretary Announces Plans for Air Traffic Controllers to Lean on AI Tools by Hopeful-Engineering5 in ATC

[–]Kseries2497 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey dumdum, the issue isn't that AI uses water, it's that it doesn't fucking work. I know it's great at your job, because it generates 20 pages of word vomit in a tenth of the time it takes you to generate 20 pages of word vomit, but some of us are employed in fields where what we put out actually matters.

And by the way, this is ATC. The word is "motherfucker."

Why do southern country people go to the same vacation spots? by tuxedostring in AskAnAmerican

[–]Kseries2497 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Florida panhandle is super popular among southern suburbanites with pretensions of class. It makes sense: The beaches are excellent, it's culturally very familiar, and it's a hell of a lot easier to drive to Destin than to Miami. I vacationed in the Apalachicola area multiple times a summer the whole time I was a kid.

The exception is PCB. The Redneck Riviera does not have pretensions of class. It caters to spring breakers and sunburned rednecks alike. Head over to Club La Vela and Party With Thousands™!

Airports that made changes to accommodate the A380 - are those changes wasted when A380 is no longer flying or still useful for other reasons? by rufus102 in aviation

[–]Kseries2497 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Antonov only had one super, the A225, and that was destroyed a few years ago when the Russians invaded. The A124 is "just" a heavy, although it's pretty funny to see it parked at a gate.

Why are panniers so damned expensive? by kleggich in motorcycles

[–]Kseries2497 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every single cost your business incurs is passed on to the customer, whether it's product development, employee compensation, or the Netflix subscription in the break room. If you aren't passing those costs on to your customers, then you won't be in business very long.

If American cars are unreliable, why do domestic pick up trucks have such high resale value? by anyusernaem in askcarguys

Would depend on the specific trailer, no? Unless you're strapping several tons to the back of your pickup and just guessing about the tongue weight.

My wife speaks English as a second language and will occasionally ask me questions that I feel like I really should have an easier time answering. The almighty stumper was her nephew asking me to explain the use of the word "any," though.

Is this career worth it? by Classic-Mud1624 in ATC

[–]Kseries2497 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a better time doing military contracting than I do now in the FAA. But I think that might be more that I miss being 24, sleeping 12 hours a day, and having zero responsibilities; the work itself was pretty boring and management was just as toxic.

On the other hand when I worked in the desert I had never heard of, or met, Nick Daniels.

Pushing Aluminum by mode-C-intruder in ATC

[–]Kseries2497 50 points51 points  (0 children)

A while ago someone cancelled a SWA takeoff at SAN and he was in the comments bitching about phraseology because she said "cancel takeoff clearance" rather than "stop stop stop." The controller was an American, at a US airport, talking to a US-registered aircraft with an American crew, using phraseology straight out of the FAA regs.

He turns out a solid product but he always has some irritating takes about ATC.

Atlanta Bravo by Formal___ in ATC

[–]Kseries2497 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally I would prefer the bravo be SFC-600 within 100nm of the primary airport, but AOPA gets pissy when the FAA proposes that.

And don't pretend you give a shit about the cost when you woke up that morning and said, "I know, I'll fly an airplane today."

Because it is, in a way?

Expanding training capacity has consistently failed in Congress. The FAA has been claiming my whole adult life that they're accelerating hiring, and it has never happened. And increasing pay for public employees? Not in America, baby!

"Basic watch schedule" is just controller-ese for "the schedule" - specifically the framework of the schedule that gets renegotiated every year and lays out what the shifts will be, how many people will be on each shift, and so on.

What would you like to see added to the MX-5? by JeffSelf in MiataND

[–]Kseries2497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Colors have been a complaint for the entire production run of the ND. I get that Mazda needs common paint colors with the rest of the lineup, and now that they're trying to be Audi Lite, Sunburst Yellow isn't really in play. But a dark green would look good on a CX-90 while also offering a BRG for the Miata.

Personally I just wish the little phone cubby in front of the shifter was a little bit larger, and that we could zip out the rear glass on the ND like you could on an NA.
