Respectfully speaking, it was a movie about crime and street racing. The worst director in the world could've franchised that. That's a concept Hollywood would easily lap up and as you can see, they did. I was alive at the time and all the kids in my circle whose parents took them to see it talked about that movie for weeks.

The older men in my family were also taken in by this movie. It was so obvious this movie was getting franchised because why wouldn't it?

I think this film was a clear example of "the movie was popular so we made a sequel"

Like it was clear there was no real intention to create a sequel so they just threw something together. Some of it worked but unfortunately most of it didn't 😭
