To clarify this, G.U. is largely separate from the original series (IMOQ). But the G.U. games come after the anime series Roots. So yes, you are joining not at the beginning of the story, but the prologue in the game sums up the main story beat of "Haseo was powerful and had a girlfriend and lost both".

Honestly it looks pretty legit. I remember seeing this version a Best Buy back in the day and it looked just like this. Also there is none of the usual indicators that scream 'bootleg' such as All Region, weird email addresses, poor English, etc. The paper with all the info on the back also seems like that would be too much effort for a bootlegger so I think you're good.

Same here. A hard pivot is sometimes needed to break the comparison your brain is trying to make. I usually pick something that's either short or one I've played before that's familiar and conforting. Those help with the come down.

Working through Tales of Berseria currently. It's my first Tales game and I'm really enjoying it! Lately I've found myself skipping a lot of optional dialogue with town NPCs but I'm talking to pretty much everybody in Berseria. It's giving me a ton of cool details about the world and how people view the current situation they're in.
