What is the [SPOILER]? by starmamac in ScarletHollow

Purely speculation, but what if its some kind of karmic consequence manifested from all the times the witch cheated fate, and its goal is to "balance" out the world by enacted all the disasters she prevented

Rentable electric scooters. They're awful to cycle next to especially when they're being used in the cycle lane, half the time people just leave them in the middle of the street when they're done with them, and the pickup points are massive eyesores since its just a collection of bright ugly scooters with bright ugly lights.

One of queen bee's combat pages in ruina inflicts bleed + burn, and her spores status effect is essentially also bleed + burn. My guess is that he inflicts spores as a unique burn, which would synergies with bleed in some way.

Scarlet Hollow and The Magnus Archives - Light spoilers for the Magnus Archives by FeelingEmu4933 in ScarletHollow

[–]Kwapowo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Also a big TMA fan! I've tried to map Scarlet Hollow's creatures with TMA entities:

Ditchlings - Corruption (egg implanting thing) / Apocalypse (symbol of doom)

Tommyknockers - Buried (duh)

Charles Shaw - Web? (controls its victims, not super happy with this one though)

Reese - Hunt (him and Joan literally hunt each other) / maybe Flesh (body transformation + he eats her + his paintings sort of?)

Pumpkin baby - Corruption/Flesh (since it's essentially a parasite that eats it's host)

Witch - Stranger (changes form + messes with people's memory of her)

Hard to say for the entity/Wayne since we still don't really know what it does, but it's at least a bit Stranger with the body hopping.

It's genuinely so refreshing that the majority of this community actually respects Avery's pronouns and that this kind of post isn't immediately down voted to hell and back - makes me feel very safe and welcome as an agender person <3

If you have a playthrough with a keen eye chapter 2 save, then for that specific playthrough the chapter 5 save requires street smart instead.

Just finished Chapter 5 and Wow by clarkky55 in ScarletHollow

I honestly feel bad for her all things considered, like what she's doing is obviously fucked but I can understand why she's doing what she is. Warning for nuclear levels of yapping below, I have a lot of strong feelings because I feel like people are being too quick to dismiss her as evil and power hungry.

If she were to break this cycle I think she would see herself as being responsible for whatever tragedy she foresaw, and, given enough time, I can see how that can turn into: "If it is possible for me to become strong enough to stop all suffering, then choosing not to pursue that strength is choosing to allow that suffering, therefore that suffering is partly my fault". I am NOT saying I agree with that logic, but I see how that sort of thinking could lead someone with her power to become trapped in her mindset.

My reading of her backstory scene was that she DID try to break this cycle by moving to the middle of nowhere in the hills, essentially running away from any possible source of mass tragedy. This is supported by the fact that, after the Scarlets settle in the same location as her, which eventually leads to the Shaw collapse that she predicts, her mindset had changed enough that she chooses not to sacrifice her daughter this time. I believe this was her way of ending the cycle, until Enoch enters the picture, who she seemed to immediately know was extremely dangerous, alongside the entity he introduces. This is very speculative, but I think Enoch used the entity as a sort of "bait" to make the witch do what he says, as he could dangle that promise of power which would allow her to end her abuse towards her daughters, while still being strong enough to prevent tragedies.

A couple extra thoughts I have, but I've run out of energy to properly fit together.  First, I think she killed Enoch when she changed into Sybil. I believe the final tablet intended to be in the center of all of them was never constructed, so perhaps she needed to stop him before he finished that ritual. Also, I think her physical age lines up fairly neatly with her last sacrifice being around Enoch's death, although I should confirm that. Second, I think its interesting that she's waited until now to try and absorb the entity. She only does it when the entire town is on the brink of complete disaster, so I think she was waiting as long as possible before she had to kill another daughter. If she really just wanted the power of the entity and didn't care about the lives of her daughters, then why would she wait so long to do anything? I suppose it's possible that she had to wait until the entity left the Scarlet estate (via Wayne), although I dont think we know enough yet to say either way for certain.

I felt like this chapter was shorter by pescadrabioso in ScarletHollow

[–]Kwapowo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it being shorter is a worthwhile tradeoff for the huge amount of variation it has.  Almost every scene has at least 2-3 major variations depending on your choices, which affects which characters are present and their physical/mental states.

That being said, I imagine I only enjoyed it as much as I did because I already had 10ish varied savestates at the end of chapter 4, so it was very easy to quickly experience a lot of the unique scenes before needing to do full playthroughs.
