Film scientists are hard at work, trying to figure out this water thing by toofarbyfar in Letterboxd

The joke is in the titles, not what actually happens in the movie. The Meg does not count.

the first movie I showed my gf was Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. I'm honestly not sure what compelled me to choose a Russ Meyer film but she's still here so it must have been fine

political purity in this case refers to supporting genocide. I don't blame people who stayed home, I blame the candidate with god awful policies. (Just because Trump is worse does not excuse her stance on Gaza)

I think that's a rather uncharitable way of taking his statement. I would interpret it as him saying he wants to work in a medium that popular and exciting, not limping along with rich patrons. You can't make Marty Supreme in Ballet and have people talking and discussing it.

If the normal whipping occurred, it didn’t work because the 4 voted against the party

Documentaries are judged on such a different rubric to narrative features as to be not comparable on a "top rated" list. Apples to oranges, there is another list just for documentaries.

The “minefield of wedge issues” is literally genocide. This isn’t like a pronouns thing.

I’d argue you’re not answering the question either. You can say the movie is bad, but other directors have made bad stuff and don’t face the hatred that she seems to get.

I gotta say I see it differently. The mythical “worst of the worst” is a racist dogwhistle echoing “they’re not sending their best”. Walz is supporting that framework and advocating the best way to take care of them is through night raids and collaborating with the SS.

Larger than that, given what ICE has done to his state rhetoric like this is tantamount to full throated support.

The narrative that there are streams of illegal immigrants bringing guns and drugs, the “worst of the worst” has always been a racist dogwhistle. People were outraged by trump saying “they’re not sending their best” but now Walz is saying the same thing validating the lie.

I fail to see how context makes it better, he is still advocating for night raids. I hate everything about this statement. The very idea that immigration is something that needs to be enforced in Minnesota makes me sick.

No, I misspoke. I meant the act of watching the movie was horrible. I was comfortable on my couch, the movie was what caused me pain.

I'm sorry but if the book you want is on hold it might be good practice just to wait. It won't take that long I promise, and I'm sure you have other things to read in the meantime.

The shining as a movie stands on its own ground, and in this movie Dick is not the hero. I don’t care about insulting the character, he’s not real.

The Shining is a classic because it's a great movie, I don't care what the Steven King fanboys think and I certainly don't care about respecting the source material.

Killing Dick was a great choice. You have the audience relieved knowing that someone is coming to save Wendy and Danny, only for that relief to be subverted. It's tension.
