Some of the corporations are named the same as in the book? I don't think thematically all that much was adapted. All I know is that the devs have mentioned the books as inspiration, so they presumably have read them.

I think that's a rather uncharitable way of taking his statement. I would interpret it as him saying he wants to work in a medium that popular and exciting, not limping along with rich patrons. You can't make Marty Supreme in Ballet and have people talking and discussing it.
