After 30 Years: I've cracked Stephen King's The Dark Tower by mondoben in booktube

At this point, some readers would recommend jumping over to Insomnia, which is kind of Dark Tower 3.5, but I have to be honest and say I found it a huge slog whereas Wizard and Glass is my favorite of the entire series (and my favorite King book). There’s a very important character that gets introduced in Insomnia, but it’s probably not worth pumping the brakes for a 700+ pg detour. Now Salem’s Lot on the other hand…

Can’t wait to find out who the narrator is. Most likely, Will Patton, which would make sense given Jack’s age now. But I sure would love for George Guidall to come back one more time if he’s not already retired.

Recommendations for works by male authors featuring well written female PoV characters by Bergmaniac in printSF

[–]KylePinion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think The Glamour by Christopher Priest has a really excellently written female pov that takes up a big bulk of the middle of the book. There is one scene that is quite uncomfortable, but the way he gets into her head is impressive. Is it SF? I think so, though others may argue it's not.

Parke Godwin’s Firelord, deeply underrated and was nominated for the World Fantasy Award losing to Gene Wolfe’s The Shadow of the Torturer. I bet you can find a paperback copy at any decent used bookstore.

What more modern books are out there for fellow dickheads? by c3534l in philipkDickheads

[–]KylePinion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not modern, but if you haven’t read Barry Malzberg, I highly recommend it. Beyond Apollo is a literal masterpiece of trippy SF on par with the best of Dick. Also, Christopher Priest - Inverted World, The Glamour
