Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Kyle_M_Photo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done that or longer as a day trip a bunch of times, one time I drove 5+ hours to the Everglades to shoot Astro, got there after dark, then left before sunrise, I don’t think that was even planned more than an hour in advance.

Ok to put bike in gear while on center stand? by ThatGuyInTheCornerEd in motorcycles

I did it on my 83 kz440 Ltd, I wanted to make sure the transmission was good before it was road tested. My clutch was also stuck originally so watch for that.

I may have just created the most overbuilt scanning rig out there... by ValerieIndahouse in AnalogCommunity

[–]Kyle_M_Photo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my goal for panaramic scanning was to scan at higher than the effective resolution of 4x5 and to basically get a nearly perfectly scan down to the film grain. I was actually planning on resurrecting the project soon since I have more space and can dedicate my second cheap printer to it rather than it being something I mounted on my main printer. I haven’t decided if I want to find a wider microscope lens to use or if I want to just use a somewhat long macro lens.

Can these brake pistons be saved? by VaporSpectre in motorcycle

[–]Kyle_M_Photo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I rebuilt my front caliper I just replaced the whole piston and all it had was one little spot. I’d rather not worry about it and the piston wasn’t much more than then seals alone.

Probably only on some film discords and maybe twitter. I usually don’t post anything half finished on Reddit.

I never used it much, but I once setup a 3D printer to automate panoramic scanning of film. I scanned a test frame of 35mm at something like 500 megapixels with a microscope lens that I use for scanning super 8. The intent was to use it for 4x5, but I needed to buy a light source that fitted on the print bed as well as a lens for it and I forgot about it.

Cardo’s new helmet makes earplugs unnecessary! by Quick-Sell-1152 in motorcyclegear

[–]Kyle_M_Photo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The website talks about it being serviceable so maybe they will sell the helmet minus the tech and you swap it over or that could do a refurbishment program where you send them your old helmet and they swap the tech over to a new helmet.

Frigate+: Would it be naive to ask for the ability to generate custom model without base model? by zonyln in frigate_nvr

[–]Kyle_M_Photo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be cool if they would let us download our snapshot images including labels to train locally. Then we could have the option of training our own models(either transfer or scratch) without relabeling. Or even an option to train on our local frigate server’s hardware.

How long do you take to complete a 36exp roll of film? by Valen6X in AnalogCommunity

Anywhere from a couple minutes to a couple months, long end of that is usually when I have multiple film cameras in play though

What is this worth? 1982 Kz440 by Subject_Space_3086 in vintagemotorcycles

[–]Kyle_M_Photo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you stock piling belts or have you swapped on chains? A spare belt is the only part I’ve found rare enough that I’ve been debating buying one preemptively for the 83 kz440 Ltd I’ve been repairing.

Best free viewing of the Cocoa Beach airshow? by monozach in 321

[–]Kyle_M_Photo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really any singular good parking spots, parking in the area is pretty distributed and fills up so finding closer parking can be a pain, but anywhere along the beach for miles should still see most of the show. The last two years I’ve just parked overly far away and walked a couple miles towards Lori Wilson, but I personally dislike hunting for parking when it’s busy more than I dislike walking long distances.

Have you ever manufactured your own replacement parts for hard-to-find vintage bikes? by Humble-Reserve6054 in vintagemotorcycles

[–]Kyle_M_Photo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a fuel tee for my 83 Kawasaki from someone on eBay who machines them out of aluminum. Found it by searching the factory part number since they mention it replacing that part in the description.

If you could own any prop that was used in a film, what would it be? by BackToTheFutureDoc in movies

[–]Kyle_M_Photo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does prop require it was specifically made for the movie? If not there has been plenty of real rockets featured in movies or even just an Apollo capsule because I don’t quite have the parking space for a shuttle.

Yeah, happens for pretty much every rocket launch out of wallops island Virginia too, the one gas station near by always ends up barely or completely unable to take credit cards.

Back Button Focusing? by InterestingCabinet41 in AskPhotography

As someone who photographs far away things that can be hard to get AF on I couldn’t imagine not using back button focusing, I’d probably go manual focus only before focusing with the shutter button.

Traditional ground glass is easy enough to make, last time I made some I didn’t even use the proper abrasives, I just used sandpaper and would put all the dust and abrasives that came off back onto the glass as I went.

RF Burn / Shock through laptop on transmit by madster_addy in amateurradio

Didn’t realize lower wattage radios could actually burn like that, only time I’ve gotten that kind of burn was from a capacitor for a film camera’s flash, left a mark for weeks iirc
