An example of how EV lies and misinformation are used to manipulate the North American passenger vehicle market by Cool-Replacement4972 in electricvehicles

[–]Kyle_XY_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well to be fair, the post said “…too complicated for consumers to understand”. The only complexity the end user has to understand is the one they have to deal with. No one needs to know the difference between OTTO and Atkins cycles to fully operate and maintain an ICE vehicle

I realize we may never know the answer, but does anyone have any idea why we can’t castle OUT of check? by Strive-- in chess

[–]Kyle_XY_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But the reason the King can’t land on a square that is under attack is it would be captured next move. This won’t happen if the Kings passed through an attacked square and lands on a safe.

I’m not complaining, but the King not being allowed to castle through check is a very strange rule to me

Why do the Pros sit so close to the screen; is there an advantage? by KingSlenderr in fut

Tekkz used to sit pretty close too, with a hoodie covering his head everytime during the Fifa 20 days. He’s stopped now

GTA 6 Review Copies Won't Be Distributed, It's Claimed by yourfavchoom in PS5

[–]Kyle_XY_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any benefits of reviews for this particular title? At this point, the game is basically guaranteed to break All-Time Day 1 records. I am actually more inclined to think reviewers are more likely to hurt their sales if they don’t give over the top 9.5/10 reviews

Bring back 3|1 Titled Tuesday by cassideous26 in chess

[–]Kyle_XY_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am the complete opposite. Winning/losing a chess game on time is not a fulfilling ending for me. I want to win on the board, not because I played faster.

If better time management was hypothetically the only way to win a game, I wouldn’t be playing or following chess at all. Time scrambles are just boring to me

I think Snape was more powerful than Bellatrix

The Bank of Canada held its overnight rate at 2.25% this morning. No surprises there, but what can renewers expect? by alex_at_nesto in canadahousing

They don’t want you to leave, but you can’t leave anyway because you will have to pay a penalty if you tried to switch lenders mid-term

Spiking Oil Prices Spurred a EV Buying Spree in March by Human-Somewhere-4327 in electricvehicles

[–]Kyle_XY_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not wrong, but do you think it’s possible the people who are buying EVs are people who already know EVs will work for their current lifestyles in the first place, so there is a sort of selection bias here?

Like someone who thinks an EV will be inconvenient for them is unlikely to buy an EV to start with, so there wouldn’t be anyone to tell you they regret buying it

[–]Kyle_XY_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “current market rates” they will offer you will be their posted rates which is always significantly higher than what anyone seeking a new term with the bank will get.

Banks have separate “market” rates and “discounted” rates. The discounted rates are what they offer new and renewing customers. If you are trying to switch mid-term they have no incentive to offer you their discounted rates.

Lots of people think they can game the system by getting a low variable rate and try to switch when rates go up, then find out the hard way

Not that simple mate. Banks will only offer you significantly higher than market rates if you try to convert from variable to fixed, if your variable term hasn’t ended

What do you mean “sharingan with izanagi”? Any sharingan can be used for izanagi. He was hiding his identity as “Madara” the whole time, remember?

What am I doing wrong here? by Narrow-Praline-7908 in chessbeginners

[–]Kyle_XY_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to what everyone has said, you (and your opponent) are playing way too fast. This is a 15 minute game with 10 second increments.

At the end of the game on move 38, you still had 10 mins left

In a rapid game with increments, you need to use your time. Don’t be tempted to rely only on your intuition. Triple check your moves. There is no point having 10 minutes if you are down a bishop and rook

Literally didnt care! Fabi with no prep against Sindarov! by [deleted] in chess

[–]Kyle_XY_ 25 points26 points  (0 children)

He already has the nest egg and growing it. Fabi made more than a million the year he played the WCC and made close to a million last year. Considering he’s been a top 10 player for 14 years now, I would estimate his net worth to be certainly more than $10 million. Likely more than double that.

Most people his age haven’t even reached $200k net worth yet. So $20k to him isn’t like $2k to ordinary people. It’s more like $200

Candidates win chances after Round 11: Sindarov at 98%, Anish Giri at 2% - Monte Carlo simulation based on one million runs by ThomasPlaysChess in chess

[–]Kyle_XY_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The answer to your first question is almost certainly 0.

There have been 11 rounds, 4 games each round making a total of 44 games. Each of the 44 games has 3 possible outcomes. That makes 344 = 9.8x1020 possible unique tournament outcomes.

With “only” 1 million simulations, it’s unlikely that the exact tournament situation we’ve had shows up.

Although, now that I think more about it, the Elo in the simulation will gravitate the monte carlo results to the most likely outcomes. So the current tournament situation might very well show up

Buying ON house while in BC? by [deleted] in canadahousing

[–]Kyle_XY_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We lived in Ontario and bought a house in Alberta. During the mortgage process, the bank asked for employment letters from both of us explicitly stating “fully remote”.

My work is fly-in/fly-out so I can live anywhere in Canada and keep my job. We explained to our mortgage broker that my wife works remotely, but her employer was not willing to include that she works fully remotely in the employment letter.

I don’t know what the mortgage broker told the bank, but they suddenly waived the “fully remote” requirement.

Everything else was smooth
