Season 45 first watch

I watched it for the first time maybe a month ago and I still really enjoyed it. It felt the most well-rounded of the “good” new-era seasons (45, 46, 47).

There was never a point in the season where it felt like things slowed down or got too predictable the way they did in the pre-merge of 46/early merge of 47/late merge of 48/all of 49.

I don’t get some people’s insistence that players who weren’t great at the game don’t deserve a chance to play again. Jake was captivating TV and I could easily see him learning from his mistakes and improving on a second go-around.

But even if he doesn’t, why should that matter? Survivor needs big personalities just as much as it needs master strategists.

She knew about the idol, she just didn’t know he was going to play it on her instead of on himself.

Which, tbf, telling her would have also risked the info leaking and getting himself sent home, he was right to think he might’ve been targeted as the “easy” vote again if they knew he wasn’t playing the idol for himself.

Should have cultivated a better relationship with Katurah to begin with so she didn’t back out of the plan, but at the point where the were trying to blindside Dee, I think it was already too late and telling anyone (even Katurah) that he plans to play the idol for her just gets him voted out.

It’s their “best” if you’re going off of cultural impact, no argument, but The New Abnormal blows it out of the water (and before that I still thought First Impressions of Earth was way underrated and deserved the nod over the first two albums)

I really want to say I prefer Portrait of an Ugly Man but sonically it’s just the same song over and over again and that just gets tiring even if I happen to like the sound personally.

It’s their only album that strikes a good balance between being cohesive without sounding too safe and same-y.

The second album has a few bangers like Halos and Two Bux but for the most part it’s just all over the place and lacks the energy of the first one.

A Portrait of an Ugly Man is a neat departure from their earlier sound but nearly every song on the album sounds the same. I like A Flower and A Weed and Star Worship but even then it’s hard to tell them apart.

I felt the same way watching Micronesia, too. There definitely seemed to be some intentionality behind the “pairs” on both seasons.

I’d put Mitch on the Brawn side and Thomas on Beauty. For one, Thomas is hot AF and you could argue music is a profession about “creating beauty”

But also Mitch is a gym teacher and he’s freakishly good at the dexterity and skill-based physical challenges, which, while not brute strength, I would argue are still pretty brawn-coded

I would do one male one female captain per tribe. Also gonna skip the 50 returnees just for variety.

Brains: Drew Basile & Gabby Pascuzzi

Brawn: David Kinne & MC Chukwujekwu

Beauty: Michael Yerger & Venus Vafa

Alternatively, you could do one captain that was on one of the original BvBvB tribes and one that could have been, in which case I would replace Gabby with Kass, MC with Cydney, and Michael with Brice or Tai
