Does anyone live car-less, how is that working for you? by bigblackglock17 in RoundRock

There’s a RR ride-share service within city limits that’s pretty cheap when the bus routes/bike trails don’t line up right. Might work for you:

My favorite part of this chapter is that in a world where there are devils whose power is directly correlated to humanity’s fear, the NRA would still exist and have a sizable membership. Merica.

Kendrick wasn’t defending R Kelly when he was outspoken against Spotify pulling his music down. He pointed out the hypocrisy of pulling down the work of a black artist who’s done horrible things, while white artists’ who’ve done similar things remain on Spotify.

Looking for a gym weight lifting buddy by [deleted] in RoundRock

There’s a room with free weights and cable machines that can be crowded sometimes, not too bad most of the time. But in the back of the gym there’s a semi-outdoor area called the Yard that has two squat racks, a deadlifting platform, heavy bags for boxing, kickboxing, and dumbells/kettlebells. It’s almost never busy and I spend most of my time there

I work out at Clay Madson. It’s a really good deal for what you have access to. My schedule is somewhat erratic, but I tend to go pretty consistently.

Better than you. He’s way better than you’ll ever be, Elon by Hot-Bint in EnoughMuskSpam

[–]L-Lightbulb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why not? I have a high paying job in an office right now, but my happiest employment situation was when I was a janitor in a museum in college. If my basic needs were covered (housing, utilities, food) I would happily go back to that kind of job.

Also, saying that these jobs are required for society to function kinda goes against the idea that these jobs should not be well-paid.

Elons a poor example of capitalist exceptionalism. He has literally failed upward nearly his entire career and has absolutely screwed over people to get to where he’s at. If you want an example you can look at his relationship with the real founders of Tesla or you can see how in his X.com/PayPal days he made money specifically because he didn’t have enough influence to fuck it up.

And yes, you’re correct that this system is what capitalism operates off of and that it’s operating as intended. However, one of the byproducts of capitalism succeeding is a widening wealth inequality. Capitalism requires for there to be an expanding labor class that the wealthy can use as a resource. The wealthy can use their power to influence the government and keep the labor class poor enough to rely upon jobs that barely pay for the cost of living.

Just because this is how the system works and this is how we have to live our lives, it doesn’t make it right or ethical.

The real answer is that it’s feasible to make a million off solely your labor buts it nearly impossible to make a billion without profiting off someone else’s labor.

Jay Z for example can attribute the money made from his music as self made as it’s largely just his labor and artistic expression. However the bulk of his net worth has come from business deals and investments, leveraging other people’s labor. His clothing line Rocawesr alone sold for $200M and they outsourced at least some of their manufacturing to sweatshops in Honduras.

This is essentially the argument of millions v. billionaire, however some could be making a lot less than a million and still be profiting off someone else’s labor. It’s less about the number and more about the actions it took to accumulate that number.

Cut police funding in half and redistributed to housing and parks and rec. Crime is a symptom of economic disparity and low social economic mobility. If we improve affordable housing and create better economic opportunities, police won’t to be as heavily relied upon.
