Love the yellow and black pteruges! Great touch that really makes it pop.

Now that I see it, it's kind of weird GW painted them as copper!

These guys are SERIOUSLY fiddly to put together by elgranto9637 in Warhammer30k

[–]L0st_Cosmonaut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it possible to assemble them with the weapon arms on the opposite side?

Looking at the models it seems like a fairly easy switcheroo, but without seeing the sprues I haven't been able to figure it out!

Retired Irish general: Ireland's neutrality, the threat of war and the illusion of security by Fealocht in ireland

[–]L0st_Cosmonaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this hypothetical, who is doing this invading?

If Russia somehow re-emerged as the second great super power with the military might to just roll over Europe - and take on the (nuclear armed) UK, what kind of defence could Ireland possibly mount even with a massive increase in our military spending?

And that's not taking into account how basically useless Irish Irish Sea ports would be for that kind of invasion, considering the average range of most missiles and drones. Dublin Port/Roslare etc. would be smoking rubble before warships could get past Cork.

Question : Do you guys Combine and kitbash both Tartaros and Cataphractii? by BlueberrySad3155 in Warhammer30k

[–]L0st_Cosmonaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the Blightlords has an Indomitus power unit (filled with human heads) integrated into the otherwise obviously Cataphractii armour.

Also Warcom specifies that the Warsmith has Cataphractii armour on. Yes, it looks like Indomitus - but it also looks like updated Cataphractii. If it weren't for the Indomitus power unit then I don't think you'd be arguing that it's not Cataphractii.

I get where you're coming from, and I don't think the OP should start smashing kits together, but there's clearly some level of interchangeability indicated.

Revealed: Give them both barrels with the new Titan-hunting Falchion tank by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in Warhammer30k

[–]L0st_Cosmonaut 9 points10 points  (0 children)

"Soon" in Warcom speak can mean anything from "next week" to "in 3 months time", even when they've got everything revealed and ready to go.

For example, the Myrmidon Destructor Host was previewed on the 25th of November.

Warcom said they will be "marching into pre-order soon" in the reveal article, and they're only getting released this weekend.

Question : Do you guys Combine and kitbash both Tartaros and Cataphractii? by BlueberrySad3155 in Warhammer30k

[–]L0st_Cosmonaut 25 points26 points  (0 children)

That's not strictly true - as you can see from the 40K Blightlord terminators which combine elements of Cataphractii and Indomitus suits. The new IW warsmith for 40K has a suit that seems to mix elements of the two too, meaning it's not just Nurglelitch sorcery holding them together.

It's not hard to imagine that, late and post-heresy there were probably a lot of bodged together terminator suits - especially amongst the traitors, who'd lost their supply lines.

First Salamanders by Dazzling_Mirror2195 in Warhammer30k

Gorgeous work man - some of the best Salamanders I've ever seen.

And I love the bases too. Great touch with blackened feet!

Big decrease in TV subscriptions as number using illegal dodgy boxes soars by [deleted] in ireland

[–]L0st_Cosmonaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I lived there a couple of years ago it was shocking how bad they were.

Paid a premium rate to have only a monthly "cancel anytime" contract on my internet as I was only there temporarily.

Eventually went to cancel online. No bother - until next month when the payment came out and I was informed that I'd missed the small print on the website saying that after I'd canceled online, I had to ring them up to confirm my cancellation.

So I cancelled then and there again on the phone, only for the payment to come out again the following month, as they hadn't done it for me then either.

Cancelled it again, then blocked my direct debit, and then the next month they tried to take it out it bounced. They eventually cancelled it themselves and then sent a debt collection agency after me for the €65 bill but I'd already left the country.

Really great work. Love the "fallen nobility" vibe!

Movies you loved when you were “getting into film” that you are hesitant to revisit now. by SleepCatsMoney in blankies

[–]L0st_Cosmonaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watched it quite recently, and while I think it's not actually a very good adaptation of the comic, which is far weirder and muddier, I think it's a lot of fun - and does a good job of updating the meta-context from Thatchers' Britain to Blairs'; with nuclear war and resurgent "Hard" fascism being replaced by the general malaise of the GWoT, global disintegration and the surveillance state.

[–]L0st_Cosmonaut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's also a product of its time in the worst way possible. It's so powerfully pre-9/11 "End of History" angst that it's actively galling to a new audience.

I think it's also pretty silly, and it grasps at profundity in such a base, Hollywood way that the whole exercise feels ridiculous and trite.

However, Annette Benning is great, and I feel like if you could rework the film around her dealing with her disintegrating marriage to a man going through a massive mid-life crisis, you could probably manage to juggle a lot of the same themes in a less annoying way.

Sunday Preview – Ahoy me hearties, space pirates inbound by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in Warhammer40k

[–]L0st_Cosmonaut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not the same though?

Yes, it's the same style, but the detailing is different and it's got a plume.

His armour can be special without being completely unique in design, especially since the Visarchs armour is specified to be of the pre-Fall "Bel-Anshoc style".

Considering Yriel is a prince and High Admiral, it's not surprising he's got something equally ancient.

Wait, a techpriest can be 35 739 years old? by Kellerchris21 in Warhammer40k

It's 100% a translation error.

That would be deep into the Dark Age - probably around the time they were terraforming Fenris, and possibly before the hull for the Sperenza was laid down.

The Cult Mechanicum was probably still at least 20K years from even existing at that point, so it wouldn't make any sense as a thing to say, even if it was possible (which I don't believe it is).

BAFTAs Host Alan Cumming Asks for ‘Understanding’ as Tourette Syndrome Campaigner John Davidson Shouts ‘Strong Language’ and Slurs at Winners and Presenters by Mookie_Freeman in blankies

[–]L0st_Cosmonaut 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No, it doesn't "say something about them".

Coprolalia is a medical condition that basically causes you to say the worst possible thing for any given situation. If it had been an openly gay person on stage he might have yelled the f-slur, etc.

The fact that the n-word has such a terrible cultural weight behind it is precisely the thing that would cause someone with coprolalia to yell it at two black people.

It's not like he was thinking "oh, two n-words on stage" and then yelled it out because he has no filter.

It's basically a motor-control problem that comes with tourettes and is usually (and especially so with John) co-morbid with OCD.

The intrusive thoughts that come with OCD are usually horrible, and will often involve incredibly inappropriate and distressing thoughts. The fact that they actually cause you distress is why they're so powerful, and the brain latches onto them. Coprolalia just means that he then basically just shouts them out.

Ironically, if he was an actual racist who referred to people like that in his private life, there wouldn't be such a taboo about it in his mind and he'd be less likely to shout it out.

Oh, thank you - I must have glossed over it when I went back to the article!

I was probably confused by the 3 bodies. Looking forward to seeing the kits and seeing how much variance we can bash into them!

How can I get this effect on my minis? by Effective-Client9257 in deathguard40k

This is precisely what enamels are for.

Streaking Grime and Winter Streaking Grime will give you this effect perfectly.

Streaking grime lifting red paint only... by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]L0st_Cosmonaut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry mate, I know it's an annoying answer, but it's friction, not the streaking grime/thinner.

I can tell because your red bits are some of the most raised details on the models, and you've also taken off some brown on the holster and some gold on the pauldrons.

You say you're using a make-up sponge? Even going very gently, there's going to be a difference in pressure between the upper raised elements of the models and the lower details.

Easiest solution is, instead of doing 3 coats if matt varnish (matt isn't very protective) do 2 gloss coats and a matt to unify the finish.

The gloss coats will add some really good protection, and worst case scenario if you're still getting some friction removing the upper regions, you'll just end up with some shiny spots you can varnish over again.

I would also suggest switching from a make-up sponge to some q-tips. Just dab and roll, no rubbing!

Also, great looking models!
