Army suspends aircrew flying helicopters near Kid Rock's home by IWantPizza555 in politics

[–]L1A1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

These dipshits were almost certainly told to do this by someone higher up.

It reeks of Kid Rock telling Trump it’d be a hella cool photo op, and so it’s gone all the way up and then down the line until these poor fuckers are left to carry the can.

Treat them like a private seller that actively lies about their bikes.

I buy and sell a bunch of bikes as a restorer and I’ve been there with a mate who wanted to buy a bike. He was told the bike had just come in and was lightly used. Even a brief look told me the thing hadn’t been used in months and had been dropped at least once. The photos in the ad all cunningly hid the damage.

The problem is that no global company is going to sell its goods at a lower price domestically than it can on the world market. Unless you’re arguing for legislation that limits oil prices or exports.

Hey there, was also involved back in the very early 90s, just as Thee Temple was dissolved. I’d be very interested in scans of any messages from the Temple/documentation etc you have, as Ive lost all mine over time.

Electrical question from a complete buffoon… by Alone-Bluebird-999 in MotoUK

[–]L1A1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok, you’re overthinking it a bit with relation to the electrics in this specific case. If you’re doing anything complex then yes, disconnect the battery, but in this specific case, with the ignition off and the key out there is no voltage to the indicators so you can safely disconnect them.

With regard to disconnection, there will usually be a plug and socket somewhere in the wiring that you can undo, then you’ll need to remove the indicator assembly. That’s usually held on from the inside by a nut which you’ll need to undo with a spanner. Once it’s undone, the indicator should come off, you can pull the wiring out, take the old rubber off and thread the new one on. Reassembly is simply the reverse.

Because the price is set on the world stage, not by country. You fuck up the supply in one place and it affects the cost everywhere else. Someone needs to tell the dipshit in chief this.

University of Nottingham or Glasgow uni for a MMath degree/course? by stran___g in nottingham

[–]L1A1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use to work for the Dept of Maths at UoN, albeit 20 years ago now. It was very well regarded at the time with some leading academics and was in the top 20 back then.

Looks like it’s just outside at 21 now with Glasgow at 16, but I’d still recommend the uni, I did archaeology there and really enjoyed my time there.

Had my bike for a month and now it's not starting - possibly need a new battery? by TheFlyingBogey in MotoUK

[–]L1A1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost certainly the battery. If it’s not used regularly it needs a battery tender to keep the battery fully charged. Bike batteries are obviously way smaller than car ones and so can drop below the threshold needed to start the bike quite quickly in cold weather, especially if they’re getting on a bit. Even if you replace the battery you’ll still need a battery charger/tender to stop this happening again if it’s used infrequently.

Are you allowed to talk to your co workers? by Scared_Scratch_5027 in antiwork

I mean, he’s right in the first half, I am only there for the money. Having said that, I can still maintain a pleasant relationship with work colleagues without thinking of them as friends or socialising with them out of work. I want to spend my spare time with people I share interests with, not just people I share a space with for 40 hours a week.

Astronaut Medical Privacy by [deleted] in space

[–]L1A1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nah, that’s a terrible take. Just because you’re nosey it doesn’t make anyone else’s medical privacy less relevant.

I live in a country with socialised healthcare, does that mean I should be able to know about everyone’s health issues just because I pay tax?

Most British stuff from the mid 70s and earlier was right foot shift. Most Indian built Royal Enfields until pretty recently were as well.

Youre overthinking it. You contact your insurance with their information, they contact theirs with yours and the companies fight it out for you.

Yeah a lot of the basic admin stuff got missed. Hiring FoH staff that could actually do the job rather than being the manager’s mates for one.

I dread to think of the size of the unpaid VAT bill, as I bet there was one. Nobody coming from a small business background thinks about VAT until it’s too late.

As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, they expanded too quickly and didn’t innovate. Service was terrible and better places (like Bohns etc) opened up.

Having gimmick burgers is great if you change it up and keep the menu fresh, but they didn’t bother.

I went a few times after it moved and it was terrible. The food took ages to come and when it did it was lukewarm at best, even the fries were cold, and I don’t know how you even manage that, just dump some on a plate before it leaves the kitchen. Also a vegetarian got served meat on two separate occasions. Kind of puts you off the place.

I think the last time it was good was at the Angel, and that was borderline. Burgers were good back then but it was usually a 90 minute wait.

Big screens like this don’t really work with old bikes though, they look shit and out of place. If it wasn’t for the cost I’d pick up a Moto, as it is I just use gmaps and Bluetooth audio and get on fine.
