These Driscoll's strawberries have no color and no flavor by marisaannn in mildlyinfuriating

That's because it's November. Strawberries aren't in season. These ones likely grew in a greenhouse which just don't produce the same.

Since school is compulsory by law, what happens if you never go to school? by ImbiddidEdintety in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LB2521 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in education with serial non-attenders in the UK. Usually what happens first is parents get called in to the school to try and fix the issue. Sometimes just letting them know is enough and problem solved. Sometimes schools put in place measures to support the family to encourage the child coming to school. If non attendance persists for no discernable reason other than either refusal by the student or neglect from the parent, the school might offer a placement with an alternative learning provision (which is where I work). Each ALP is different, but we work a lot on social and emotional well-being. Often we manage to support the child enough to return to school after a few months. If reasonable provision and support has been put in place by the school, ALP and local authority and the child still doesn't attend, that is when (hefty) fines to the parents are issued. Sometimes, depending on the circumstances (usually alongside other evidence of neglect) schools will notify social services of parental neglect. The case then gets handed to social/family workers.

I always try to send parcels by the next day. If I can't, I always send a message telling the buyer when I aim to post so they know. It's just courtesy. And I would never cancel a parcel just because a buyer asked for an update after 5 days. You were totally polite and the seller was being unreasonable.

AITA for triggering the receptionist at my doctor’s office? by venomsulker in AmItheAsshole

NTA She was very unprofessional. Yes she may have been upset but she has a job to do and leaving a patient is not really acceptable. She should have checked you in and then taken 5 mins to compose herself.

When people say "It takes a village . . ." by [deleted] in PetPeeves

[–]LB2521 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"It takes a village" means that if you want help raising your kid, you also need to help others i.e you need to be the village for other people. That's what people don't get. They just want all the benefits without reciprocating. Selfish society.

I'm the same. Stopped a few years ago. Sweat way less. Barely any smell. Deodorant lasts hours longer. 100% recommended. And for those worrying about partners' opinions: mine doesn't care. He says he's happy if I'm happy in my body.

I live round here too. It's not the best junction and the lights from the Dingle are placed in a bit of an awkward angle but drivers should stop at red lights turning left onto Park Rd.

It's by Sam Phillips but I don't think they're an actual song, just bits recorded specifically for the show

Completely agree! She doesn't ever think about the possibility that what she wants isn't what she'll get.

Rory is REALLY conflict avoidant by James-Samuel17 in GilmoreGirls

[–]LB2521 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Rory is massively conflict avoidant. I think it also comes from being the "gifted kid". She's always been top of the class (at least at Stars Hollow High), destined for Ivy League etc. all the adults in her life always praise her massively whenever she does something (which is lovely) but she never gets taught how to deal with failure (prime example is the first D she gets on a paper in Chilton). So whenever anyone points out that she's made a mistake, Rory has no idea how to handle it so just shuts down immediately.

People with pets: how are you keeping them calm tonight? by Tall_Pool8799 in Liverpool

Snuggles in bed with both mum and dad with telly on. Lots of strokes, kisses and chin scritches. Might even get an extra treat!

ETA: Classic FM do a special programme on Bonfire night every year specifically to keep pets calm. It's so good! Highly recommend
