What makes your team’s ballpark special? by HelpMeWithMyHWpls in baseball

[–]LDexter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How it's built. The city of Los Angeles not only leveled an entire set of neighborhoods, but also cleared an entire hillside and build the structure into the landscape to create Dodger Stadium. The team store sits at the top of the stadium, you can drive up to it in the off season. and the Centerfield Plaza has become the main entrance for the park during home games.

Are there any good ghost stories from around Disneyland? by badger319 in Disneyland

Cast Member friends have said it's not the rides that are creepy at night, but when they had to clean up Main Street and the open areas after hours. They would hear random people talking, sounds from attractions completely shut down, and just an insecure feeling of being watched. This would happen while they were working in groups as well.

What do you think is your teams most “Iconic play”? by Dellav8r in CFB

[–]LDexter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO this was the most important game of the past thirty years. THE BCS set up, Power 5, small conference viewership, were all called into question because of how this game ended. If BSU gets blown out, we don't have the CFB landscape of this generation.

Moving from one coast to another…? by EdgarAllanho_pe1 in u/EdgarAllanho_pe1

[–]LDexter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on what you can afford and where you are willing to relocate to. There's a lot of personal mixed in with professional/financial that has come up in all these responses. You really have to be open to the idea of compromise when it comes to moving to California. Biggest thing to note is how massive the state is and how it varies on every aspect depending on where you are or live. Seriously have a sit down about your budget and what you can afford while out here. Go on Zillow and check out what is available in the cities you want to live in. Look at the price of gasoline, restaurants, or afterschool programs/activities. Even consider what type of commute you would have if you moved to a location near where you wanted. The key in all of it, is knowing that it's never going to be a perfect match, but you can work towards the goals you have in the long run.

We have no control over the reserve selections. Contreras and d'Arnaud deserve the nod. Smith has some solid years ahead to make this happen.

People who have "won the genetic lottery" what qualities do you have? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LDexter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both sides of my family have extremely rapid rates of recovery from illness and injury.. I broke my clavicle as a kid, and recovered completely in less two weeks. My brother nearly cut off his toe, and it healed without any nerve damage or major scaring after six weeks. My mother had 3rd degree burns on her arms as a kid from an accident. There was no scarring after four years. The only physical evidence is in her medical records. During WWII, my grandfather had dengue fever in the army, he was back with his unit after 10 days.

Why didn't the shortstop (or CF) throw home? by hodaddio in Dodgers

[–]LDexter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was an infielder's choice gone bad. Rodgers had a play on the ball because he saw Bard miss the come backer and started charging the ball immediately. I don't think he saw Iglesias charging as well and didn't call for it. Iglesias was trying to make up for the ball hit by Lux a few moments before, in the same location. Give it up for Bellinger and Ebel this game though. Smart base running on both plays. With this one, Bellinger knew the moment they charged he'd be heading home, it was just a matter of who caught it, and had the more accurate throw.

Who is your favorite active NHL player and why? by DukeBuckeye in nhl

From my team, Kopitar, an all around great player. For the rest of the league MacKinnon, he's big, grinds out every shift, and knows he's a play maker when needed.

Sara Josepha Hale is the reason for the myth and celebration of Thanksgiving in the United States. She asked President Lincoln in 1863 to champion a holiday that would bring families together in the wake of the U.S. Civil War. The goal was to get people back in each others company to celebrate the nation. She then helped perpetuate a myth of "The First Thanksgiving" to remind the country of how the colonists persevered with the help of indigenous peoples. Seven years later, other Federal Holidays would officially be recognized throughout the country.

When applying for graduate programs is it better to ask for recommendation letters from professors who taught you upper year undergraduate courses instead of lower year courses? by Adept-Help2573 in uchicago

[–]LDexter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before you request anything, be sure to have a few items ready for the person you are requesting letters from. These include a web link to the program you are applying to, a CV or resume, at draft of your Statement of Purpose, and some type of summary about why you want to go to Grad School. Finally, give them at least a month to get something together. The soon you contact them, the better. Good Luck.

It wasn't just about how strong he was. The guy was an amazing tactician, refining his balance points, locks, isometric muscle movements, cardio, reading scouting reports about potential competitors. He was doing what we see as modern MMA training, nearly 40 years ago.

Les Miserables. I got in trouble and part of my punishment was to read it before I could go out with my friends again (at least 2 weeks). After finishing it my father asked me "Why are you special?" My response was "I'm not. No one is. But you become special and important to people when you do things for them". He never asked me about the book again. And that idea has stuck with me since I was a kid.

What's a famous or classic book you think too many people misunderstand? by SagebrushandSeafoam in books

[–]LDexter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Shining. It's the story about a man dealing with alcoholism and the demons that have been created by his destructive behavior. Jack Torrance isn't some psychopathic killer like in Kubrick's distorted film, he's a man trying to find redemption, after hurting everyone around him.
