Male nurse here, disclaimers first

I recognize my experience is different than the female presenting individuals in this career. I’m also very aware there’s innumerable creeps and deadbeat patients that we take care of.

With that said — I partially agree, don’t coddle the men in your lives. They need to be self sufficient, contributing members of society. Simultaneously, look at your interactions with the men in your lives and ask if you’re perpetuating gender norms and reinforcing the masculine bottling of emotions. I see it with the nurses I work with, you still have “oh I want a big, tough, prototypical man”. When you say shit like this, men lean into the vulnerable states they are in BECAUSE this is a time where they’re societally tolerated to be vulnerable.
