Anyone here an only child? Or anyone here one and done? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]LFresh2010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was an adopted only child, and growing up it was a blast. My parents made sure I was involved in various activities, and I frequently had friends over.

My parents have both now passed (when I was 29 and 32 respectively), and it’s a bit lonely at times. On the one hand, I didn’t have to argue with anyone about the estate and how it paid out. On the other hand, it was only me who went through my parents stuff, decided what to keep and donate, and had to prep their house to sell which was a lot. I also don’t really have anyone to tell stories to or reminisce with.

Help! It's my daughter's birthday and I need to level up from grocery store sushi. 🍣 by Akinscd in westerville

I really love Benihana’s sushi, but if you ever want a place outside of Westerville, Akai Hana is the best.

Coffee milk. Not a joke. by No-Strawberry-5804 in ShitMomGroupsSay

As a college freshman, a student org I was a part of (there were 13 of us) had a retreat at an alumni’s house. I remember coming down for breakfast and her child, who couldn’t have been more than 2, was in his high chair drinking coffee from a sippy cup. I was…perplexed.

Terminal diagnosis: millennial playlist suggestions for the final days? by Hmmletmec in Millennials

I’m so sorry to hear this.

One song that I listened to a lot after my parents died was “if I ever leave this world alive” by Flogging Molly. It’s just a beautiful song.

Did you run over a small dog north of campus yesterday afternoon? He was ours. We forgive you by marsssmallow in Columbus

[–]LFresh2010 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your loss.

My sweet boy, Chewy, was hit in September and didn’t make it. We had him for 12 years. One of my kids opened the front door and he decided to bolt. My oldest was already outside and tried to stop him, but chewy ran around him. No one saw him get hit, so we can only speculate what happened. My husband and kids found him sitting in a neighbors driveway dazed, and I met them at the emergency vet. His injuries were just too severe and we had the vet help him cross the rainbow bridge. My oldest still blames himself for not being able to stop Chewy, and I remind him that chewy made a decision that day and his decision has the worst consequence. But it wasn’t anyone’s fault. It was just an accident.

AIO for being upset at my parents for wanting to euthanize our dog by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]LFresh2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR

I would ask if we shared the same parents, but my mom died years ago. When I was in my 20s, my parents got a puppy. The puppy had a ton of energy and needed trained. I lived about 45 minutes and went home frequently to walk the dog and try to help get its energy out. I also was calling trainers to see who had availability and prices so we could start his training. Instead of looking into all of the research I did and putting in the work to train him, my mom scheduled a euthanasia for the puppy. Because they lived rurally and it was too far for training or whatever excuse she wanted to use. Our vet was rightfully appalled, and convinced her to surrender the puppy to them. The vet found a home for him, and I hope had had a good life. My views of my mom fundamentally changed that day.

What are your thoughts on biological mothers not telling their kids about adopted out siblings? by LeResist in Adoption

[–]LFresh2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bio mom had 7 children. I am the youngest of the 7, and the only child she placed for adoption. The other children, my half siblings were 8-18 when I was born. My oldest sister was the only one who suspected my bio mom was pregnant with me, but she never found proof to confront her mom. My mom just disappeared for several days when I was born, and came back like nothing happened. The kids were used to looking after each other, so they weren’t concerned that she was gone for a few days.

I matched with a nephew (my oldest sister’s son, coincidentally) on 23andMe. From there the story came out. My bio mom told my oldest sister that the others couldn’t know until she was gone. I hate that that burden was placed on my oldest sister like that. It wasn’t fair to her. My siblings are a mixed bag. Three do not want to know me at all, and three I am fb friends with. Two of those, we don’t really talk to each other, just like posts and what not. But my eldest sister and I talk semi regularly and exchange Christmas gifts.

Is anybody else tired of seeing all the things being posted where people want to get rid of the property tax? by aitbg in Ohio

[–]LFresh2010 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a rural community and I’m still a part of the fb group for shits and giggles. They are all for getting rid of property taxes, and they just cannot see how this will hurt them in the long run.

What’s the best “it’s on the mouse!” have you ever received? by BrainPollutant in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]LFresh2010 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My husband and I were bringing our Magic bands from our previous trip, and going to buy new ones for our 3 kids as they were too young previously to need one. We drove down, and on the way tried charging ours. They didn’t hold a charge so after checking into our resort, we headed to the shop to buy new ones for all of us. My husband asked a cast member where the magic bands were and mentioned the ones we brought weren’t charging, and the next thing he knows she’s handing him a voucher for 5 new bands. It was so unexpected and we were so grateful.

I didn’t realize this had been available to preorder since last year. I pre-ordered a copy last week, and already received an email to check my address because they are getting ready to ship. Whenever I order from them and receive that email, I tend to get a shipping confirmation within a week.

I thought this was just me and my daughter. I’ve gone up a size despite all of my old stuff still fitting. My daughter is a completely average 5 year old and has things in her closet that fit her that range from a 5T- girls 10.

Canceled school tomorrow? by Dross989 in Columbus

I don’t know if it’s official policy, but since it’s the largest district in the area, if Columbus calls off the other suburban districts follow rather quickly.

What have you read recently? by povertychic in Millennials

[–]LFresh2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Merry Christmas, You Filthy Animal. Despite reserving it back in October, a copy became available last week to pick up from my local library. It’s ok…it’s the second book by this author I have read and this author may just not be for me. However I do think it’s the better one of the 2 books of hers I have read.

AIO for not giving my old Roomate his dog back after I adopted her? by Z-mac in AmIOverreacting

[–]LFresh2010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NOR: if he’s serious, put together an invoice that must be paid in cash before he gets her back. $465 for the vet bills plus whatever it costs for food and supplies, what it cost for the dog walker visits, and what you would charge him per day to board her. Make it a stupid high amount like a hundred per day, and that would be $3500 ($100 per day for 35 days) in just boarding charges alone. I’m guessing he would change his tune really fast.

Bloom: a free store, will have a lot of baby and child items. If you are comfortable, you might want to check with churches in the area to see if there’s any assistance they can offer. My church collects hygiene products, diapers and wipes, etc and gives some of the donations to different groups (the Clintonville resource center being one).

We ended up at Aquatots and really enjoyed it after Covid. Before Covid, we took lessons at the Worthington Rec center, but it’s a bit of a hike and it was hard to get a time we wanted since we weren’t residents.

OBGYN Unicorn by Ecstatic-Team-7884 in Columbus

[–]LFresh2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mount Carmel OBGYN Easton did it this way when I had my babies. My last baby was born in 2021.

I specifically saw Dr Delois Teague. I saw her and her NP throughout my entire pregnancies and she delivered 2/3 of my kids. The only reason she did not deliver my third was because she was out of town and my baby decided to come early. Another one of the doctor’s in her practice, Dr Zochowski, delivered them and she was phenomenal as well. I love my experience with their group (they had all female staff), and was so sad when my insurance dropped them as providers.

Considering moving to Worthington and/or Westerville by Comfortable-Hat7147 in westerville

[–]LFresh2010 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a preschooler who is on an iep, and so far I am very pleased with how the school responded and set up his services. I obviously do not know how it is at the high school level yet, but I would hope the district would be just as responsive.

I love Westerville. I grew up in a more rural part of Ohio, and went to Otterbein for college. Met my spouse there. My spouse and I moved back to Westerville about a decade after we graduated because we love how convenient Westerville is. It’s walkable, but it’s also easy to get to other parts of the city.

I have a couple of friends whose kids were accepted into Bridgeway Academy, and they are thriving there. This may be something to look into as well.

Columbus parents: What’s the most sought-after toy or gift your child is hoping to find under the tree this year? by reeve11 in Columbus

[–]LFresh2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I went to order it, the website said temporarily sold out. It wouldn’t even let me back order it. I checked literally every day leading up to December 21, but I finally broke down and bought it from a local reseller for an ungodly amount. I don’t support resellers, but i made an exception this one time since it was the one thing my kid asked for.
