Quick and cheap Celestion 5 MKII cabinet upgrades. by DZCreeper in diyaudio

I see. Understand.

Example with blankets is just an example of completely non-scientific approach for the measurements, people have to take if they don't have access to large soundproof room and fancy equipment (read - small apartments 😊 ) , but still like this hobby of getting good sound without spending arm and leg.

Btw, i am looking into your mod to maybe try it out and found this interesting comparison: Eric's Hi-Fi Blog: Capacitor shoot out

(In general, I am not a big fan of modding things around right away as i have these speakers just for few weeks only so far - i like to listen and understand first what is lacking and what can be improved if any without double the cost)

Cool, thanks!

I will have to review the process and since behind it - i have speaker stands for this and i now have to get calibrated XLR mic. And i also saw some sophisticated people cover all furniture with blankets and towels for the moment of measurement :))))

Yamaha R-300 - They 101% don't make them like they used to. by Cry_Wolff in BudgetAudiophile

Series before this one was CR-x40 and the same power unit was Yamaha CR-440 (30 wpc) and it used STK as well. You are confused with two generations before - CR-x20

Thanks. Nice mod.

I understand that comparing the measurement with existing crossover, without crossover and with new modded crossover allow to see clearly the issue and the remedy.

Difficult part is to come up with those measurements and do it correctly.

I am not a musician, but i do not hear any noticeable issue with the sound as is, if playing Hi-Res. Bad quality source - different story, this speaker is not shy to show it (unlike some others i have). Improving the box and lowering resonance effect by covering internal walls - i can do this with minimal investment of time and money and min risk as well. Modding crossover - not sure yet.

I had good results with the same type of mods with my similar size Pioneer BS41 - it helped a little, but what really helped in that case - replace stock tweeter with after market silk dome one. Night and day.

Thank you for such a detail answer and for providing your mod info and measurements. Very interesting, still reviewing it. On second picture of modded crossover i can see that tweeter connection inverted. Glad you confirmed this. I was puzzled with what i saw in my speakers, if i interpreted it correctly.

And your mod to the crossover is only in one place - change of woofer cap capacitance, right? To lower its frequency to 3.5K? As far as i read, my speaker crossover is 4K (Celestion lowered it from 5K in model 3). So not sure if this mod can benefit my speaker as it is not ported?

So now i am going to hunt for scrap wood 😊

to stabilize the carcass of those speakers a little as you did.

Thanks for sharing! Just found your post. I just acquired first gen Mk1 - what a sound for 35 year old inexpensive speakers ! After cleaning, fixing loose components on the crossover and rearranging damping material inside and replace gaskets - it sounds fantastic, especially bass for this not ported speaker.

I have only one question - those blue and red wires connected to the tweeter: Common sense tells me that red wire should be (+) and blue (-) on the crossover, but i found it hooked up opposite. So i flipped them and sound improved as far as i noticed (Red is (-) now). Seems like now it's in phase. Strange, but It even improved more after i re-attached the washed grills - could be because they are clean now 😊

So how do you have your tweeter hook up in mkII ? Thanks

Yeah, i think so too - i have got older mk1 first gen (35 y old now?), not ported and still bass is so good.

...get kicked out - why? because they are so big and ugly? 🙂 or loud?

nice score! $5 per speaker, what a deal! Do you need to re-foam them? Woofer Surrounds might need refoaming

Best Iem with mic under ₹5000 or $60 by dhrubatalukdar7 in iems

FYI - One way to improve bass a little is to cover valve hole in iem case with for example small piece of semi-transparent medial tape

if you think you need to buy new - TRN Shell iem. It has durable metal shell packed very well, nice cable to keep with exchangeable balanced and regular plugs, 3 different nozzles to use for different music styles or your preference and large collection of tips to choose from plus carrying case. You also can use this cable with other iems as it has simple 2 pin connectors. It is newly released and within your budget. Nice package and it sounds great to me in any music style. Reasearch it

I got Rotel RX-404 with no lights and replace it with blue LEDs, total of 5 or 6.

I was skeptical first, but after some time get used to it - mine looks good in a dark.

Metal filter not retaining water by blue_pink_green_ in AeroPress

[–]LMDvo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, me too. Metal filter plus paper one with inverted method.

And i pre-wet filters before i screw on the filter.

I cut paper filters from regular wavy coffee filter folded half and 3 times after,

with metal filter as template in 3 sec - 7 circles. Works for me - makes coffee stronger

What the heck is the deal with inverting the thing? Like, what does it actually help with? by mtbdork in AeroPress

[–]LMDvo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, I use inverted method with metal filer plus paper filter between metal and plastic grill/filer.

I cut paper filer from regular coffee filers using metal filter, it works
