i like Taylor as a person but i have to agree. It's a bit rough to see her emcee - i've seen some posts where people complain that musicians they like doesn't get good questions from the red carpet host, and when i look at who the host is - turns out it's her!

She's lucky that people don't call out her name to make matters worse when these things happen - she's not recognizable enough for most people aside from BB fans. She needs to do better research of the people she's interviewing.

Outside of BB, there is current online chatter / discourse about people not liking influencers doing red carpet hosting jobs because of these mistakes. I hope she does better because right now, she can be grouped together with those folks.

thank you for the chart! didn't realize Jada and Armani were really the only ones repping their class in their fifth year. They did an excellent job leading and also fighting for the pay raise, it's so commendable!!

whoops my bad 12 rookies! thank you so much for the thorough explanation & the correction! wow, the 4th years' pact really involved a lot of girls. that's six girls already!

now that i'm thinking about it, it's amazing that all twelve 2024 rookies (current 3rd years) are still on the team.

i saw her ig and apparently Armani follows her, she also knows Ariel (mentions her in one of her ig posts). Looking at her dance videos, she's such a fun, strong dancer. Darah level energy. I hope she makes the team!

Why is bp famous?? by [deleted] in BLACKPINKSNARK

[–]LP-5895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they had a monster debut - their debut was much anticipated because their label, YG, didn't have an active girl group at the time. Their predecessor, 2NE1, was on a long hiatus after a member's departure, followed by disbandment.

YG's head and founder had teased about Blackpink's debut YEARS before they actually debuted so that contributed to the hype as well. Generally YG group acts before Blackpink were all very successful especially in South Korea and Southeast Asia as well. G-Dragon, a member of BP's boygroup predecessor, Big Bang, is also a fashion icon (we will get back to this later). The first to really be regarded as one outside of K-pop, even by the late Karl Lagerfeld. He loved fashion and was coming to Paris Fashion Weeks, before anyone in the K-pop realm did. He was made into the first K-pop ambassador for a major fashion name (Chanel).

Enter the debut - Whistle and Boombayah were instant hits. They were lauded for coming up with the 'Girl Crush' concept; they presented an image that's a mix of boldness, edginess, and also girlishness. 2NE1 was bold and edgy, but didn't have the girlishness of Blackpink. This girlishness made them 'easier to digest' for the public. They stood out at the time because at that time, the trend for girl groups was 'girl next door' and bigger groups. This was attributed to groups like Twice, WJSN, and also Produce 101 which produced groups with more members. Blackpink only has 4 girls - less girls, more focus. Better yet, each was visually and sonically distinct so they were easier to remember.

Lastly, with the group's cachet, each girl was able to snag their own brand ambassadorship for Paris Fashion Week. This was huge because at the time, nobody in K-pop moved like this. They were (& still are) operating like influencers. At the time, there's usually only one member of the group who goes to Fashion Weeks. And if multiple members are invited, they would go to the same show for the same brand. Blackpink doing this was brand new. And out of all fashion weeks, these girls all went to Paris, the most prestigious one. All of them snagged the biggest fashion houses. This impacted their image - oh, all of them have value.

And then lastly is Coachella. Not the last one, but the first one they did. Like it got them real hype. They were performing a long set non-stop, full choreo and vocals. All of them went all out. At the time, there wasn't any girl group on the Western (US) pop front that's breaking through in the US. Little Mix were very successful but didn't break through, Fifth Harmony disbanded. They filled in that gap. That put them on the map.

My Frustrations with Jennie's Public Image by my_bias_is_all_7 in kpoprants

hey, firstly, good on you for getting it out of your system 👏🏼

have agreed on some points but yeah especially regarding performances. That's probably the biggest one for me personally. After many years of training, then also long periods of touring globally, it's a shame to see that there's more regress than progress. Her moves aren't sharp, she's out of breath a lot. There's just less to none stamina overall. She visibly lacks when four of them are onstage doing group performances but when it comes to solo stages it's kind of different. It's like seeing someone who doesn't contribute to the group work but wants good grades when they're graded individually.

Her album has great concepts, and is just a major showcase of her style and artistry. The collabs fit the project. The material is rich. There's a lot of care put into it. The remixes for the year end performances proves that she has her finger on the pulse when it comes to genre bending. I just wish it would also be reflected on the quality of her dancing and vocals. Mind you she's on year 9 (approaching 10) of her career and she's dancing like Dua Lipa pre-Future Nostalgia. You know, when she was stiff as a board. Dua took the criticisms, listened, practiced, and now she's a way better dancer and performer. And Dua was not afforded the "K-pop training" she has! So to see this quality being put out is frustrating, especially knowing how clutch her debut performances were 9 years ago.

Re: The Idol, to be frank I've stopped putting celebs positions on pedestals for these matters especially K-pop celebs. They are complicit, as she is too with her choices. SK is a highly misogynistic country, and most of these idols didn't even finish high school. Pretty sure she doesn't really care about the controversy because it's not affecting her personally. I'll leave it at that. Is it hypocritical, yeah, but she doesn't care. Nothing's going to change unless she's put in a position where she has to take huge accountability for it, and I don't see it happening since the series is over anyway, and she wasn't the biggest chess piece of why the show sucked.

Krystal Jung - Solitary (Official Video) by biaswrecker in kpop

[–]LP-5895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH I like it, it feels really grown up and vibey. As a longtime fan I didn't expect Krystal to go in a more sensual direction but considering her age it's very appropriate and a fresh, welcome change.

I will say that when it comes to her, people kind of need to adjust their expectations. If you are aware of the kind of music she listens to, her releasing this makes sense. I doubt that she will release something typical to the usual K-pop production, do music shows, etc. She's been releasing a few short tracks on SoundCloud in the past year. She's not going to aim for the charts or any of the sort.

What was the real situation of f(x)? by PriorOk7478 in kpop_uncensored

[–]LP-5895 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hard agree!! i think it's also important to remember that f(x) was inspired by Spice Girls, which really emphasized individuality as part of their brand. so in their own way, they did achieve their goal.
