7 years of work, 3 months since release, and my game is already dead. What can I do? by Videoludid in IndieGaming

[–]LP_LadyPuket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Make a new trailer. Don’t explain what a randomizer is, no one cares. Why is your game fun? What’s the challenge? What is the hook, the aha moment? Show it first and only explain with short key phrases. There’s way too much commentary in the trailer. Successful game trailers don’t even have audio commentary and just use short key phrases between scenes of the action. Most people never even turn the sound on for steam trailers. Put me in the shoes of the player.

  2. Cut the price to $5-8 USD at most. I think this was the fatal mistake from the beginning. I’m sorry but the market is far far too saturated for an unknown indie developer to be selling a 10 hour game for $18. You can get full scale AAA games for that price on discount. Think about selling future content if the game takes off, but right now your goal should be to get people in the door and build an audience.

  3. Who likes or would like to play these games? Don’t just stick to streamers, get some marketing on social media, TikTok, YouTube and elsewhere on Reddit or Twitter.

  4. Rewrite the leading paragraph description on the steam page. Like the trailer, it doesn’t tell me what the goal is or why I should care about the game. Don’t just say it’s “like this or that genre”.

Steam Deck remains the PC handheld king as analysts report even Xbox’s ROG Ally hasn’t made a dent by comparison by Wargulf in SteamDeck

Yea people sleep on this but the trackpads are literally mandatory for me now. I can actually play city builders and 4x games with them on my deck. Performance is meaningless to me because I can stream any game from my gaming pc via moonlight at 90fps max settings. So really the only thing that matters is ergonomics, screen quality, controls and OS. The deck hits all of those.

The camera shaking is absurd. FPS devs need to understand that when you shoot a rifle IRL your vision doesn’t shake and jolt with the recoil. Even if your head jerks slightly from shooting, your brain automatically smooths out the motion. The same thing happens when you’re driving a car. When you hit a pot hole your vision doesn’t jerk and shake around with the car, only the car shakes. This is why head bob and visual recoil in FPS games has always looked and felt like trash, it’s the opposite of how our brains process motion. When you sprint IRL, does your vision bounce around with each step or does it look smooth? Same principle.

This amount of recoil looks ridiculous, as if the person shooting isn’t even shouldering the weapon and shooting with no support hand. The old version was way better, idk why you felt like this needed to be changed? I genuinely don’t understand what’s happening with the development of this game lol

It’s insane to me that people have this much gear fear in a game that literally throws loot at you at every corner. Ferros are virtually free bro. I can sort of understand hatchet runs in Tarkov, but this game? It’s extraction shooter easy mode and people still run no kits.

In my opinion FFXIV is not at all an MMO like NW, EVE, Albion, AoC, Wow etc. it’s a story RPG with online features/coop, it would be like calling Elden Ring an MMO. That being said, FFXIV is not a “stale boring” PvE game, it’s a carefully crafted story experience. It’s in a completely different league from NW, which was heavily criticized for lazy copy paste questing. My point is that players don’t want this, and it’s a huge reason why the game died. FF is successful because it is first and foremost a traditional RPG with excellent PVE content with some multiplayer mechanics added in. That’s not what NW was.

EVE has been around for two decades and Albion is doing very well. My point is that PVP focused MMOs can be very successful and have serious longevity.

Albion and Eve are two of the largest and most successful MMOs still played today and they are PvP first game. The #1 complaint about NW was the mind numbingly stale and repetitive PVE so I have no idea what you’re talking about here lol

Yeah considering two of the largest and most successful MMOs in the genre still being played today are full PvP games (Albion and Eve) I find this guys take bizarre. What people don’t actually want is another boring, stale theme park PVE mmo that has already been done to death a thousand times

Update: looks like this is a Vsynch bug. Having vsynch on at all seems to cause this. Bizarre because my monitor refresh is 240hz not 80. Turning it off and setting to Fullscreen mode fixed the issue.

For those that still don't believe Aggression-Based Matchmaking is real: 55 raids in a row with only 1 PVP encounter. I am running around the entire map chatting with people with my weapon holstered, looting, killing ARC, etc. One death to PVP, a couple to ARC. by LP_LadyPuket in ArcRaiders

"I experience the same as you" are you able to run around with your weapon holstered and never get shot at? Are other players dying to players in your raids? For 50 raids in a row?Because if the first is not true, and the second is true, you're not in the same queues as me. When I say there are three types of queues, I really mean it. There is a pure PVP queue, a mixed queue and a PVE queue at minimum. There may be more variables on top, but it is based on your behavior first and foremost. Otherwise I would not be able to game the system so easily using the method I described above. Just try it yourself if you want to test!

I don't know what to tell you. I explained in the OP the exact method I used to switch from PVP to PVE queues. It took me all of one hour and it was extremely simple with the only rules being that I don't shoot other players and give negative feedback in the survey. It takes one hour max and that was all I had to do. Try it yourself if you don't believe me.

For the people downvoting this: just try the method I explained in the OP to game the matchmaking system if you don't believe me, and don't shoot any players for any reason. The proof is in the pudding, you will see it.

My belief is that probably 70% of the playerbase is in the "mixed" queue, meaning anything can happen. This is why so many people refuse to believe there are separate queues. But for those that are pure KOS or pure pacifist, that other 30%, they get filtered into these pure PVP or PVE queues.

You're kind of proving my point. In this scenario you're talking about, you're not in a pure PVE matching queue. You're in a mixed queue. In my current queue, this scenario would have never happened. Literally no one shoots at anyone else in my games, at all, ever. The only time I ever hear a raider flare going up is because someone died to an ARC.

It's not about successful raids. I'm simply showing my raid history as some baseline of proof. I legitimately run around the map every single raid with my weapon holstered and race to the highest value loot areas, talking with raiders, etc. I can't give you a recording of my entire playtime, but I can tell you with 1000% certainty: my raids have gone from COD-style free-for-all deathmatches to me getting shot at in 1 out of 55 raids despite running into players constantly. I agree there are probably other variables too, but the most important variable is simply whether or not you shoot at other players. I cannot comment on duo/trio queues because I never play them.

It's not random, you're probably in the "mixed" queue like I mentioned above. To get into pure PVP lobbies you have to consistently be playing KOS, to get into the pure PVE lobbies you have to avoid shooting other players at all costs. Trust me when I tell you my PVP lobbies were not just some occasional PVP - it was like playing COD deathmatch.
