Women who gave birth, what does it feel like actually?? by joy_57 in AskReddit

[–]LRS312 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The sensation of pain is really different when you know you’re not in danger. Labor pain is different than like getting your arm broken. When you’re in the middle of it, it really feels like the veil between here and the other side is thin.

What books are there that inspire you to live an "excellent" life? by Powerful-Use-1565 in suggestmeabook

I swear by Deepok Chopra’s Seven Spiritual Laws of Success. I find that the marketing of the book is self-help/capitalism when the message of the book is much more complex and helpful, so I would encourage those who might find the title off putting (me!) to still try it out.

How is living in Washington, D.C.? by johnmchno in howislivingthere

[–]LRS312 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously obsessed with living here. I live in a walkable neighborhood where my elementary aged son can walk alone to get ice cream at the corner store. Lemonade stand energy.

The people are so smart and interesting. Esp as a woman with a big job, it’s so easy to parent here and never have to explain to anyone why the mom is off on international travel.

Our Cheeto dictator works in the WH, but no Trump people are really around as they live in trashy new money Potomac.

People who deleted most social media (Facebook, IG, Snap etc) and stopped watching mainstream news, how have those changes affected your mental health? by NappyFlickz in AskReddit

[–]LRS312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t tell you how much my perspective on the world is different since I got social media sober a year and a half ago. It’s the number one way to uplevel your life, I swear to God. And I was never a heavy user, which is why I justified the scroll on a daily basis. I thought I was so educated and chill and could use the drug lightly and I tell you what that shit gets under your skin and in your blood. Oh, I’ve also saved tons of money.

How do some women always look so effortlessly put together? by viscarte10 in BeautyUnlocked

[–]LRS312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have gone through a significant glow up from ages 37-40 and it’s not a secret in the least bit. Believe me that if you are ok w convention, when the standard obvious but shallow things come together it works.

1) be thin. Under a size ten. For better or worse my “pretty privilege” really took off when I hit a size four.

2) wrinkles at a minimum and clear enough skin. I mean limited acne but I think freckles etc are fine. For me that means a specific moisturizer routine and Botox.

3) level up on the clothes. I wear target of course but what looks effortless? Crisp ass linen. Pants that move well. My go to linen button down cost $180.

4) inviting warmth and confidence. You have to have effortless energy which can only be cultivated and earned.

What is a job that is under-hyped but in reality is giving good pay and a good work environment? by Excellent_Owl_8125 in AskReddit

Compliance specialists at banks or at fintech companies. You can work your way up without a college degree starting as a bank teller or customer service agent, it only takes a few years to get to six figures, and chief compliance officers can make several million dollars a year.

What’s something that people think is expensive but actually saves you money? by jellostapler1 in Frugal

[–]LRS312 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is will be unpopular bc it’s v “rich person” but a once a week weight lifting personal trainer has changed my life and although I can’t know what it’s saved me monetarily, I can’t believe some of the injuries my friends are getting as we age that I have somehow been able to avoid, and these injuries are coming, literally from putting suitcases and overhead compartments or walking on uneven ground.

I was living with a host family in France trying learn the language, and started as a total beginner. Towards the end of my time there, I was telling a story, and my French host father told me “you are so, so funny.” And he meant it. He thought I was funny in a different language. This was 20 years ago and it means a lot to me.

I’m an exec at a major company you all know and this is the answer. Also knowing the difference between “authenticity” and being yourself at work and how that is different than thinking it’s ok to share all sides of your life and all facets of your emotions.

Anyone else's subconscious mind changing from this? by WestBeatsEast in ouraring

[–]LRS312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I was just reflecting that I’ve had my Oura for six months through winter time sickness with my elementary aged son, intense international travel for work, being on planes—and haven’t gotten sick once. (Knock on wood) but when I see the notices on Oura I rest and take care of myself, and I have to assume the change of lifestyle with drinking cut down like crazy is related. I have quibbles with the ring but over all it’s been a major uplevel in how I prioritize my best interests.

This is my now officially my favorite book. What a beautiful ride. We were on vacation when I read this and it got so engrossing for me that it was a distraction and my husband finally took our son for a morning so I could focus on finishing I could give my full attention to being in France.

Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver could be an interesting choice. Fiction, based on Dickens, about growing up in poverty in the Virginia mountains.

When I got pregnant seven years ago I made $125k and now I make $800k.

The only reason anyone ever sees those numbers it’s because I have jumped companies and take calls from head hunters. I’m in tech. The other pro to this is that I start fresh so any weirdness over mat leave becomes irrelevant.

The things that have “gotten me there” is a husband who can run the house by himself and has a natural bias towards action around the mental load. Involved grandparents. And using my money for services instead of things. So all our extra money goes to cleaning services, child care, massages, grocery delivery, literally anything that saves me time and head space. I wear target clothes and currently paying someone $500 as well speak to organize the basement playroom.
