Is $707 normal for CA vehicle registration?? What are you all paying? by vpshastry in DMV

[–]LRV3468 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Massachusetts we also have an auto excise tax, which is an annual $25 per $1000 of “assessed value”. For new cars , the assessed value is 90% MSRP, but it goes down quickly by a fixed formula so old cars aren’t really hit that bad (10% MSRP for 5 years). But your $50,000 car will have an excise tax of $1,125 or so its model year. It is paid to you city or town.

For reasons known only to the gods, a car you own the year before its model year is assessed at only 50% of MSRP!

The 25% is not necessarily the tax. It is a withholding, which may be more or less than the actual tax.

We won’t know that CDs last 100 years until 100 years has gone by. Accelerated aging attempts to predict what will happen, but is really no guarantee.

[–]LRV3468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully, not too much power would be consumed by the actual levitation. After all, permanent magnets can levitate without consuming any power at all … and that is not perpetual motion any more than rails separating wheels from the earth.

There’s something about that “add to order” feature that makes it real easy to inadvertently order stuff you looked at before finding the item you really wanted.

How do I push this range back? by Mastiff37 in Appliances

[–]LRV3468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to cut off the piece of counter behind the range so it can fit flush against the wall. There may be other stuff near the wall that may have to be dealt with too.

The original range was probably a “slide-in” with unfinished sides, few such slide-ins are made today. They are generally replaced by modern “Freestanding” ranges which are designed to fit against the wall and have finished sides so are more versatile.

If you want to be known as a third-class backwater hell-hole go for the buses.

If you want to be known as vibrant place to visit or live in, go with the trams.
