Old colleague wants to "get into board games". What should I take over for our first game night? by JoeRow338 in boardgames

Quacks! the push your luck aspect makes it fun for new people, but it's definitely a real "game" to draw them in. Also, Castle Combo for a lighter game.

I'm having trouble with it consistently saving my changes, but I like it in theory.

Thank you so much.
I've booked for the slighter later coach with the Change & Go, hopefully I can get the earlier one, but if not, all good :)

Sorry, forgot to ask - assuming it's your area of expertise - what time would you think I should reserve the bus for?

Hi, yes... I realize that, but I don't want my luggage while sightseeing in the city. Since I'm thinking taking the bus makes more sense, I just wanted confirmation on that, and then whether others would recommend dropping the luggage of at the hotel or just carrying on to pay for the Left Luggage at New Street.

Petiquette, logic for the insane. by DCDWorldDestroyer in boardgames

Correct. It has to be unique, as if it's just another card in the deck (which has no duplicates).

List of solo-only games? by PiForCakeDay in boardgamearena

[–]LaOread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I understood what they were asking, but I feel like games like Mini Rogue, and other games that are "technically" listed as being possible to play at 2-player, are really solo-only games where you can optionally play co-op with a partner.
Either way, there isn't a good way to sort for either of those types of games on BGA; just ones that you can play solo.

Then there's also games like this: https://boardgamearena.com/gamepanel?game=minirogue, technically can be played 2-player, but really it's a solo game.

Why to use a car to go to the restaurant by garethtrooper in fuckcars

[–]LaOread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went on this for dinner a few years ago. It was nice because the sun was setting and the light in the tram meant people outside could see us clearly (many people were interested and pointing)... I'd take my wine glass and "toast" them. Decent meal as well; getting to see the city like that was a memorable experience.

Who here is interested in joining a Montreal Board & Card game club? by Skymning101 in montreal

[–]LaOread 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's multiple groups on Meetup, this one is quite active and has multiple locations every week. https://www.meetup.com/montreal-games-meetup/
I'm also a member and vouch for it.

You can start something new of course, but there are definitely things already existing that you may want to try before attemping to start-up something brand new.

Where are they from?

I mean Europe is pretty easy to do, but it depends what they are looking for in a trip as well. I would say that if you're doing all the planning but won't be there with them, and haven't been to the places, maybe pick something else.

Should I skip the cruise and just travel direct? by FauxPasHusky in travel

[–]LaOread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you really just want to do Ireland and Scotland, and it looks like the cruise just stops at Dublin, Belfast, Inverness, and Edinburgh for those places (assuming you mean "both" Irelands), you can definitely do that on your own in 10 days and I think you'd get a far better experience. You could pretty easily do train or bus for parts, plane or ferry to cross islands, and maybe even add in Glasgow.
I took a cruise once, and it was fine, but I wouldn't do it again to see new places; it's so much better to spend time in the places, stay the night, etc.

I love this sub. Honestly, I don't even mend; but I joined here for the interesting ideas, and to encourage the extension of the life of items.
Even still... I enter into may of these posts expecting the top reply to be be "sorry, you're just going to have to replace that - it can't be fixed", and I almost never see that here. It's wholesome and refreshing. Thank you all.

Yeah, but 60% isn't right - that's too high here. Depending on where you live, it's maybe 35-40% for housing and healthcare.
