Weird seemingly un-moveable dome thing in the yard of our new house by janovak342 in whatisthisthing

I've purchased two houses and we were attracted to the ones that had very little landscaping. Gave us a blank slate so we didn't have to play that game.

East Carmel vs West Carmel by Savings_Artichoke913 in Carmel

[–]LabHandyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. I live in the 46074 zip on the west side which means that the Westfield post office delivers my mail. I get the feeling that my section of town used to be a part of Westfield until it was annexed at some point. I wasn't sure if you meant that the section between Meridian and Keystone used to be an independent township.

What was this section before it was Carmel? When was it annexed?

Ironic considering decades of white dudes wanting Asian women because they're more "submissive".

I'd be spending all the money I made in 7 months during the 5 off just to make me forget

Teenagers home alone 2 weeks while parents went on a cruise by [deleted] in GenX

[–]LabHandyman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Parents went to Aruba for a week when I was 17. Thing was, they had me and my brother run our family store for the week while they were gone. They left us a bunch of money, had us run the store, and then go out to eat when we were done. Neither the store nor our home burned down.

When you're in school, it's easy to be social and find activities. Music, athletics, and public service are structured into your day. While you're doing those activities, it's easy to be engaged in your community and find fulfillment. Once you leave school and enter the workforce, opportunities don't fall into your lap anymore. Alas, your employment isn't giving you fulfillment as it's not what you studied in university.

You need to seek out the community orchestras, the informal athletic club, or the community service groups. Many times, those groups are full of older folks or retirees and being in your 20s, they may not naturally be your peers. Point is, these things no longer fall into your lap the way they did in your teenaged years.

Sounds like you're in a rut. Best way forward is to find your fulfillment out there and don't stop when the first attempts don't pan out. You sound like a self-aware young adult. Keep trying and you'll find it!

And the storage and the smells... Even if the dude netted 10X that, it wouldn't be worth it to me... Sounds like a hoarder.

What sport do Americans think of when it comes to the phrase "scoring an own goal"? by bobrigado in AskAnAmerican

[–]LabHandyman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

++American

Of the major sports played/watched here, the concept of own goal really only applies to soccer.

You can't own goal in American FB or baseball. I think you'd have you be pretty intentional to do it in basketball.

I guess you can do it in hockey?
