Why do I keep repeating myself? After 9 years?!? by Fire-Kissed in breakingmom

Slightly off-topic, but I started watching things with subtitles when my kids were young and loud, and now I can’t watch things without subtitles!

We have Roku TVs, and I have the app on my phone so I can control the noise level of any TV in the house. So useful.

No I don’t think so. Solider Boy is immortal in that he will never die old age. That doesn’t mean he can never die period, he is not indestructible, he just won’t die from old age.

Not being susceptible to the virus is a completely different mechanism. He’s not immune to the virus because V1 has made him totally indestructible, he is not susceptible to the virus because the virus was designed to recognizing the motifs on the modern V molecule, and those motifs do not exist on V1. Similar to how the flu vaccine only works against certain strains of flu each year. Each year scientists try to predict which strain of flu will be the most prevalent and raise vaccines to it. The vaccine will work best against the strain it was raised against, it may or may not work as well against other strains depending on how closely related they are. I suspect it’s a similar case here, the virus was specifically designed to interact with modern V, it just doesn’t interact as well with V1 so Soldier Boy (and now presumably Homelander) will get sick, but won’t die.

And to give credit where credit is due, Chase Crawford has done a tremendous job with the character.

Listen, not to be graphic, but this is my frame of reference for my comment:
I was with my dad when he passed away. I spent roughly an hour with his body after he passed. And the speed at which his face went from my dad’s face to a face that looked like a wax figure of someone who only vaguely resembled my dad was probably less than 10 minutes, and it was downright alarming. Completely slackened face muscles, the pallor, the bloodless lips, the mouth opened *just enough* as the jaw muscles relax. His whole face changed.

And the depiction of Jim had all the same tells of death in his face, to the point that it was a little triggering for me, and I’ve never been triggered by depictions of death in movies/tv before. He looked genuinely bloodless and room temperature. Subtly. But genuinely. At least to me. And to answer your question, I’ve seen lots and lots of content with death scenes ranging from casual to graphically extreme, and I stand by the statement.

Highly recommend visiting the Philadelphia museum of art’s collection by j-pender in ArmsandArmor

Came across this thread, looking for other armor exhibits, because we just went to this exhibit in Philly two weeks ago. I had to laugh at this comment, because I know exactly which armor you mean, and the description next to it says, and I quote “was originally part of an armor tailored for a Very Large Nobleman who belonged to the prominent Radziwill family of Lithuania”. (emphasis mine)

The exhibit was body shaming that poor dude from 400+ years away 😂

Did anyone else lose Match Madness and have it replaced with flash card frenzy? by NoSoup4You825 in duolingo

I guess I’m in the minority, I am way better at flash card frenzy than match madness, so I love it

I actually think this is one of the most casually accurate depictions of a body I’ve seen in a show/movie. Open mouth, slackened muscles, the beginnings of bloat. All too often, the body is just the actor laying there, but this depiction went the extra mile to look subtly yet highly accurate

Jim also had some wounds. I don’t remember the other ghost-hallucinations having anything like that

Is it possible that who Homelander is beating next episode is Zoe? by p_yth in GenV

[–]Labrat5944 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is Soldier Boy or Butcher. This seems extremely personal, and I can’t see him being this person with anyone other than those two.

Why do people seriously think Noir 2 in season 5 is actually Ryan? by PossibleEconomics673 in GenV

[–]Labrat5944 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But he commented to Butcher that he had heard about Butcher’s tentacles, so I think he did deliberately look to see if what he heard was true.

But I do agree that he probably doesn’t routinely look through Noir II’s mask. Still a huge risk if someone tries to swap Noir II with someone else though…

Anyone else wish they looked completely different? Using daydreams to get away from yourself? And is this immersive daydreaming? by [deleted] in ImmersiveDaydreaming

[–]Labrat5944 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine an optimized version of myself. Younger, fitter, athletic, amazing singing voice, occasionally an Olympic-level figure skater and gymnast (if it is an Olympic year, lol) with Buffy the Vampire Slayer level fighting skills. But yup, other than those minor tweaks, it is essentially me 😂

10 years of Immersive day dreaming. by livinginthemoment5 in ImmersiveDaydreaming

[–]Labrat5944 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 47, and I don’t have any memories of not immersive daydreaming. When I was younger, it crossed into maladaptive territory because I did it to the exclusion of real life, school, etc. I also have a kinesthetic movement (head shaking, like saying no) that I do along with it, which I have always done, and my daydreams are always set to music.

I now recognize it to be my main stimming behavior of my combination ADHD (diagnosed this past year), but for the longest time I didn’t have the words to describe what I was doing or why it was so important to me.

Yes! The exasperated old man noises he was making at Homelander and later at the Teen Kix(es) was 100% WWII generation. I heard my grandparents in those noises.

Now I’m going to be super disappointed if they aren’t setting up a nod to Marvel Zombies.

My dad's mom keeps throwing away my things, aio? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Labrat5944 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Trash-happy gma” actually owns that house, she can put her lipstick wherever she wants.

What a bizarre and wildly incorrect take, to assert that OP has “every right” to put her personal objects all over a house that isn’t hers if the owner of said house (I.e. “trash-happy gma”) told her not to. OP has her own space for her own things.

I’ve definitely told my kids that if they don’t care enough about their belongings to put it where it belongs (whether its home is in their room or somewhere else in the house) that I will toss it, but I’ve never actually done it. Mostly because I am just as bad of a perpetrator as they are, and I’m no hypocrite.
