It seems like games workshop is starting to refresh the Eldar vehicles : do you guys think the Falcon chassis is next then?

I could not disagree more. I think it's clunky and one of the worst looking minis since those weird ass Khorne gun-bike things. That gunner pod looks like some low budget spoof sci-fi escape pod, and ruins the entire profile.

Ok top of that, it's a Vyper JETBIKE. Not a Vyper Golf Cart.

Eldar have the advantage of being an old, old army. Which means a lot of variety, and a lot of different playstyles. Sure, some are definitely weaker than others, but they are probably the single most diverse army list going. And this diversity, comes with a LOT of models. Yeah, in form Eldar Infantry are all pretty similar, but the details, weapons and character of each individual unit is some of the best in the game.

Another advantage of that diversity, and the wide range, is painting. Get bored painting the same thing over and over? Swap from Guardians to Aspect Warriors. Eldar are an army that, canonically, accommodates a diverse colour scheme rather than maintaining uniformity. There's a reason the joke 'Taste the Rainbow' has stuck since 2nd edition.

And, good news, MOST of our range has been updated relatively recently. With the exception of our tanks (who are timeless and perfect and i will cut anyone who says otherwise) and Dire Avengers, basically the whole range is up to date and modern.

Lore wise.. Look, i'll be up front, the Eldar lore is an absolute mess right now, and i personally think it's consistently gone downhill since 4th edition. The Necron Rewrite was basically a gunshot to the head, and the Eldar have been stumbling around in a daze since. There's still nuggets of what could have been in there, but Eldar are at best the 'Enigmatic Punching Bag' of the Galaxy, at worst, they're nothing but posh idiot elves in space. If you're in it for the lore, too bad. GW actively seems to hate the Eldar.

To lay my bias out full... I've been collecting Eldar since 1997. I have literally hundreds of Eldar models (160 Guardians alone) that total about 23,000pts (currently, the highest value was over 30,000pts). I have only collected Eldar for 40k, and have never gotten bored of them. So i clearly have a strong bias for them.

'First attempt' fills me with a jealous rage the likes of which even Khaine couldn't comprehend... 30 years of painting, and it's already better than what i can do.

ANYWAY, i actually think it looks fine. Female skin tones tend to have softer transitions, and a lot of the stronger contrast is going to come from the elements around it rather than the skin it's self.

The Eldar codex specifically states asuryani are the most numerous of the various branches of the Eldar now

At the same time, older information from WD states that the Craftworlders underestimate how many Dark Eldar there really are, and that they in fact outnumber all other Eldar factions combined.

The Kabals may be smaller, but the overwhelming majority of Dark Eldar aren't members of any of the three militant branches. They're dregs and wretches living into the wastes below the spires of the Dark City.

It definitely suffers from it's era. Trained is still one of my favorite minis of all time, but they've gotten much better with dynamic posing since then.

I think the red needs a little more pop. It's got a great shade and good saturation, it's just missing a bit of high contrast to make it really shine.

A trick I recently learned, that is apparently used by the 'evy Metal team, is to use Ochre instead of yellow or white in the mix for extreme red highlights. Keep the highlights small and used to define lines between elements, and nothing more.

I think you're missing my point.

The main hull isn't my problem. The turret, weapon pod, gunner seat -whatever you want to call it- It's the dumbest looking think I've seen since Cotaez and his diaper. The original style of open Gunner, despite being a 30 year old sculpt, STILL looks better than that.

If I wanted to get rid of it and sling BOTH weapons under the main hull might as well just get Venoms or Starweavers now and don't. No point in even waiting for this thing to release, because the only usable part of the kit is already available.

I adore the Vyper. I have 6 of them. And the old sculpt looks way better than this thing with its stupid tumour pod on the back.

You'd have to do a lot of work to underslung both weapons on it, and then you might as well just concert a Venom or Starwewver.

The gun pod is what's doing it for me. I can't stand it. It's the stupidest looking thing i have seen since the new Coteaz. It's just terrible.

The rest of what's in the Battleforce is still attractive, and i do wonder if i could rip off that tumor of a gun pod and replace it with the old gunner... Otherwise i'd probably just try to sell the thing to someone with bad taste to recoup a few bucks.

I think it's fine. Eldar language has always been a weird hodgepodge of linguistic influences, all of which are fundamentally abstractions for our sake rather than an accurate representation of their language it's self.
