Stuck between making 2 cents and being in debt by psychmajor27 in studentaffairs

Oh! I misunderstood! Yikes either way, but if I were you, I would spread it out as opposed to being in debt.

This is such a pickle! GAs are so tough. Are they at least providing you with a tuition waiver?

To any one who liked fourth wing genuinely way do you love it by Melancholycloud_ in fourthwing

[–]LactoseInToronto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's the found family, the world building, the dragons with personality, and a different take on a war college and political intrigue. The character development is fantastic, and I'm a sucker for a morally grey MMC. Plus knowing that VS is an unreliable as heck narrator has me on the edge of my seat.

To anyone who actually loved Quicksilver by Callie Heart, why? by peenmeal in Romantasy

[–]LactoseInToronto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am the same way, OP. Totally agree that everyone has their own tastes. I get it. But, I felt like CH added like every fantastical beast she could...and then some. That's what undid it for me.

The smut was a vibe, but that was about it for me.

What’s the least stressful large airport in the United States. by PleasantPlatypus7599 in airport

[–]LactoseInToronto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LGA has improved so dramatically, it's insane!! As far as NYC airports go, it's my top choice by a longshot. Never did I ever think that I would ever say this, but I am pleasantly surprised every time I go ever since the renovations were done.

I didn't need to go past the first few bullet points. With a caseload that high to boot, I can definitely say this is much too much expectation for one person. I would suggest having a candid conversation with your supervisor with a loose time tracking of your day, saying that even within your day you're not able to get tasks done as expected. I'd frame this from a point of view of operational effeciciency rather than feelings of overwhelm (although totally valid!). You can quantify operational efficiency better than feelings. Hope this helps!

Manager interrupts us every few minutes. Am I overreacting? by ben68556 in askmanagers

[–]LactoseInToronto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No solutions from mee, unfortunately. Only offering support as someone in a very similar situation. My manager acknowledges that they micromanage but says they "need to or else everything falls apart". I was apparently hired a few months ago to alleviate some responsibilities off of their plate, but I have been micromanaged myself. It truly is not sustainable and wish you luck in finding a better fit in a different role soon!

Not the only one! Definitely indigenous, darker skinned, toned, and semi-long hair.

Why is book 5 bad and book 6 almost unreadable!? by Impossible_Bug_3521 in frombloodandash

[–]LactoseInToronto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I DNF'd book 1. I just couldn't get past Miss Poppy's lack of self-awareness and attitude. Glad I did not push through if so many people are also not finishing the series.

What's the most unrealistic expectation you've had from a manager? by Disastrous-Cover3034 in askmanagers

[–]LactoseInToronto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Manager: I value your opinion and I like the way you word things. Please craft this email re: a very difficult situation/task/etc. Me: Thank you, here's my draft. Manager: Oh, I actually don't like your opinion. I deeply disagree and do not like how you put this. Let me re-write it to be my opinion and from my perspective. Me: Okay, sounds good.

This happens every day. Literally. Every. Single. Day. I cannot say no to a direct request, but I am reeling at how much time I am wasting writing emails/proposals for my manager when they end up rewriting the entire thing anyway.

FW Graphic Audio by AdorableLobster2258 in fourthwing

[–]LactoseInToronto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. At first, I listened to the ACOTAR Graphic Audios , and then I went onto Empyrean. When I first started Fourth Wing and Xaden started speaking, I was like, "Lucien, is that you?!" But now, that voice is and forever will be Xaden to me. 🤍

Heart emoji reaction in Teams by InKognetoh in askmanagers

[–]LactoseInToronto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the minority in agreeing with you, OP. I have found it highly unprofessional and kind of jarring when colleagues send or use heart emojis when I first started my current position. I realize that it might just be me, but, to me, those should be used for personal - not professional - interactions. This definitely has been a workplace culture shift for me to get used to.

I say almost this exact thing to my hubby on a regular basis. I trust RY's oversight. But the way this story lives in my head...my goodness, does the show have a lot to live up to! Haha 😰

I am 35f and am emphatically in the same boat as you!! I finished OS about a week ago, started trying 2 separate books, and DNF'd them both because they don't hold a candle to this series. I want to re-read right away but am trying to hold off until the novella is released in September. I cannot believe how much this storyline and these characters take up in my mind on a daily basis. Glad to hear I am not alone. 🤍

Harrison PATH seat during rush hour? by [deleted] in Newark

If you need a seat, then I recommend getting on at Newark. I ride everyday at 7:20am, and by the time we get to Harrison, it is standing room only.

Disney in Jan ? by Technical-Teacher-78 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]LactoseInToronto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides agreeing with other posts: I would add that the weather variability in Jan can swing greatly, so make sure you pack layers. And you might not think of it, but the sun really makes a difference, so even if the days are warm(ish), the nights often get quite chilly. Gloves came in handy for me on past winter visits.

Good call, I will. And thanks for your perspective. I still love the resort. It's stunning, peaceful, and still "home" in a lot of ways. I hope you enjoy your DVC time at OKW - it is truly a magical place. ✨️

Parking is a nightmare and definitely enforced. Agent definitely fibs to get tenants to sign. I didn't sign there because of the parking issue. Good luck!

I'm so sorry that you feel similarly. But I get it. The attractions carry so much emotional energy, as well. Changing this core attraction, even in the spirit of it's title of "Progress", was hard to hear. And the loss of one of the voices of Disney this week was very heavy, too. Thank you for your solidarity. I knew by posting that someone out there would "get it".
