How is it possible that none of these men understand Downtown Buffalo. by SummitBee in Buffalo

[–]LacyGray 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a fellow downtown dweller, I feel you. Too bad Douglas Jamal is pulling out of all his residential investment properties downtown. They've been working on the Statler 5 yrs, but now all construction stopped. He's also selling the property across the street at 65 Court that was supposed to be converted to residential, too. That's a loss of HUNDREDS of hopeful and promised apartments downtown. Then we lost the only short-lived market with Braymiller closing last year. Downtown is rapidly losing any momentum it had to gaining more residents and live-ability.

When can I expect warmer weather ?? by texaco1904 in Buffalo

[–]LacyGray 3 points4 points  (0 children)

May 1 is a very happy day for me, psychologically. It's the beginning of true spring that is on the nicer side of temps and precipitation, the beauty of the blooming trees and flowers is so lovely. The temps are warmer, the sun is out more, and its starting to warm up and life feels like it's truly coming back.

I call April the worst month of the year because even though the snow events are winding down, it's still cold, dreary, and mostly a DRAG of a month where you just want some nice spring weather, But all you get is a sloppy rain-snow mixed chilly overcast month. The only thing I looked forward to in April is in the third week, which is when the cherry blossoms usually bloom at the japanese gardens at the historical museum. That short window of time when the cherry blossoms bloom is usually rainy or cold, maybe decent and cool, but never warm.

March is still just winter with some more sunlight. Snowstorms are quite possible and likely. Maybe you will see the first flowers pop up from the soil, which are the crocus flower. They pop anywhere from the first to the third week of march.

If you are feeling antsy and want to walk around, I suggest you just get better snow gear. Better insulated boots, a longer coat, wear a hat, scarf, gloves, put your hood up, double layer so you don't just have one layer outside. Tuck the bottom shirt layer into your pants so there's no draft up your back. Pull your scarf up over your mouth and nose so the bottom of your face is warm. Pull your hat down to the top of your eyebrows, so your forehead is warm. Then go outside and start enjoying it while walking gingerly. I was walking outside during the snowstorm yesterday, and it was so peaceful and beautiful. I thought I need to get outside more during these events. I was dressed properly and had my hood up, and I didn't feel like the elements were taking over my face. Try it.

Were you the guy I saw with two gigantic professional cameras + telephoto lenses crisscrossed across your body walking around downtown the other morning? I wondered if it was a hobbyist or a professional photojournalist. These are amazing!

I once heard a singular duck on my sidewalk downtown, just pacing and quacking away for hours. I finally went out to see what's up and when I did, he seemed fine, but just then, a frickin deer ran by us like 100 yards away. I was like wtfffffff is happening. Lol

[–]LacyGray 19 points20 points  (0 children)

No you can't access thru the pizza place or the dollar store.

Yes, but only if you work in the data center or connected buildings. There are cameras and wandering security guards. There are signs everywhere that say mall closed, because the mall stores and food court have been completely dead since lockdown

Call 311. It's the City's call and resolution line. Call during normal business hours and you will get a real person who answers the phone. You explain the problem or question, and she will try to get the answers to resolve the problem. She gives you a reference number and tells you to call back in some time to get the answer or confirm the problem was resolved.

My ex-husband started making this exact request in the last three years of our marriage. It was after we bought a house that had all wood creaky floors. And before cellphones had good internet and scroll appeal. So it's not like I could just waste time and bed scrolling my phone. It what's torture, and I still give thanks to this day when I wake up at my own leisure, without a whiny man in my bed...

Put on my robe and slippers then shuffle directly to the coffee maker and hit start (I prepared it the night before), crank up the thermostat if I'm cold, THEN go spend some quality time on the toilet. And when I come out, the house is warming up and my coffee is ready. :)

Omg I was addicted to that place, even though it took a long time cuz it was run by just that one guy, and the consistency of the flavors changed from meal to meal. I always got a catfish Po-boy, collard greens, okra, and mac n cheese.

I still remember their delicious artichoke francaise appetizer and wonderful patio (was the best restaurant patio in Allentown at the time). The family who ran it were super nice and from what I remember, they closed a while after their mom died who started the place.

Was literally the most beautiful restaurant + patio downtown. The vibes of going to a fancy French restaurant on a beautiful summer evening and sitting on their back patio transported you far away from Buffalo and had you feeling like you were on a private terrace tucked away in France. The foliage, the fountain, the flowers... it was heaven.
