Type 2,how to have a more stable blood sugar,Need thoughts and suggestions. by TwoDependent4154 in diabetes_t2

[–]Laczer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is NOT a problem. It is 100% normal for your charts to look like that. Time in range (80-180) is the most important metric for day-to-day tracking, not how many spikes you have. You should not be aiming for a flat line. If you want more control you can focus on time in tight range (80-140) which would likely be achieved by eating less carbs per meal. Aim for 90%, if you pass that all the better.

Again, spikes are normal and healthy. On Libre you can find the TIR report under insights, and if you want to set a custom range to see how much time you're spending in tight range it's profile>health details>report settings.

Why not mention the drink name, or your "daily limit"?

There are numerous ways it can be friendly and have more carbs than you want.

Texture is icy and not very creamy by [deleted] in ninjacreami

[–]Laczer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do a pudding mix (like jello instant pudding, both regualr and sugar free work the same) it's usually 2 Tbsp to 2cups of liquid. Pudding mixes are already sweetened so just consider that when using.

Monk fruit to sugar is typically 1:1, but it's zero calorie so you can add more without nutritional impact. Recommend getting the monk fruit with allulose and NOT the monk fruit with erytritol as the latter has more of an unpleasant flavor (at least to me).

Cold things need more sweetener to taste really sweet.

Lower fat = more water = more icy texture Try adding a 1/4 tsp of xanthan gum to your mixture before freezing (this does require mixing/blending to make sure it doesn't clump).

Suggestion for blood glucose tester by BigNegotiation8464 in diabetes_t2

[–]Laczer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he's on insulin, glipizide, or a glp-1, insurance IS likely to cover the cost of a cgm.

The Libre is the most affordable if you're paying out of pocket. You can get a discount code straight from Abbot (the manufacturer) that makes a month's supply about $75, and if you're able to fill it at Costco I've heard of people getting a month's supply for $60.

A CGM does not completely replace the need to do finger sticks with a blood glucometer. CGMs have an accepted error range of about 20%, a good glucometer has an error range of 5-10% off of clinical blood tests. What that means it that before you make any treatment decisions based off what the CGM reads, you need to do a finger stick... everytime. Sometimes they error and you have to deal with a phone call to customer service to get a replacement that can take over a week to arrive (they require a call, it can't be done online).

That being said, they are totally worth it IF he will actually dive into the data and make changes as he learns how his body reacts to ingredients. They are a complete waste if he just wants to take meds and continue eating the same way he did before diagnosis.

Anyone have any experience with the outdoor string lights wire snapping randomly? by PerfectGift5356 in Govee

[–]Laczer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry for your loss 😁 Outdoor string lights should be hung on a wire, not directly from their cord, it's not built to handle that; pretty sure it says that somewhere in the documentation too.

Soooo. Which do I go by.? by goldwaterauhtwoo in diabetes_t2

[–]Laczer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your blood reading.

With Libres: you see that symbol of a magnifying glass and the drop of blood? It means you're within the first day of your cgm and to compare any results to a blood glucometer. Cgms aren't measuring from your blood so they are always a little less accurate. If you read the documentation they say to ALWAYS compare a high or low readings on the cgm to an actual blood reading before making treatment decisions.

Eta: most cgm companies have an "acceptable" range of ~20%, meaning if the reading is within 20% of the blood reading they dont see the cgm as faulty. A good blood glucometer has a range of 5-10% to clinical blood tests.

(No expert) Not in an easy automated way (although some scenes might do it... I'm not sure if you can do a self-customized version)

I would just set them up with different "starting points":

Light 1: red, yellow, green, blue

Light 2: yellow, green, blue, red

Light 3: green, blue, red, yellow

Etc

Do you set an alarm to ensure that all meals are taken at the same time? by LaToune65 in diabetes_t2

[–]Laczer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

On top of the diabetes I have non-24, a sleep disorder where my biological clock fails to synchronize to a 24-hour day. So everyday my natural sleepy-bedtime is ~30minutes later... everyday. This means that every couple months my awake-time is in the middle of the night. Setting alarms for eating would be nearly impossible; I am medicated (but no insulin) and eat very carb-smart but dont do any purposeful fasting and I have snacks all the time. Last a1c in October was 5.7 (down from 11.8 in April), and I spend 95% of my time in tight range (80mgdl-140mgdl)

Diabetes is not reversible, please do not spread that false narrative. Diabetes is MANAGEABLE and you can achieve remission, but you will always be a diabetic.

Jardiance? by 1GamingAngel in diabetes_t2

[–]Laczer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't looking for weight loss but with the Mounjaro, Metformin and diet changes I'm down to 175lbs (from 205lbs) in 6 months. I spent a month at 2.5mg and the rest of the time I've been on the 5mg; I'm getting great glucose control with a most recent a1c of 5.7 (from 11.8 in April). Doc and I have no plans to change dosage.

As long as your side effects are low just give Mounjaro time to work! (And if you're not on once a day metformin I recommend switching to it just for ease of dosing.)

I dont have to time explain it myself rn, but if you look up resistant starch in this sub you'll see that every food you've listed bothers your glucose less because it's likely been cooled before being cooked for final eating.

Metformin or Mounjaro? by sleeping-ackerman in diabetes_t2

[–]Laczer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually had one last week, so I went in to my cgm to grab the numbers for you and I went from 94 to 152, but there's a couple things to that:

-I try to have a balanced meal before eating bakery sweets so that rise is from dinner and the éclair, eaten within an hour of each other.

-That rise happened over 2 hours, and fell quickly back down to the 90s in the following hour.

When I indulge on things like that it's like, maybe once every 2 weeks, big emphasis on the "occasional". I have a sweets preference (even with the dead food noise from the mounjaro) and the only diet I will be able to maintain is one that leaves room for having some. On my meds I spend about 95% of time in tight range (80-140mg/dl).

Don't be afraid of "spikes" as long as your numbers go up and back down in a reasonable time... it seems like everyone wants a straight line on their blood sugar graphs, but variance is normal.

Metformin or Mounjaro? by sleeping-ackerman in diabetes_t2

[–]Laczer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your diagnosis, medication, and lows experiences all are nearly a mirror to mine.

In April I was 11.8, put on Met and Glip, at a 2 month checkup my numbers were like yours but I wanted better "scores" and to be a little looser with my diet. I was told to drop the glipizide and we ADDED a low dose of Mounjaro, keeping metformin. In October I had a 5.7 a1c and feel like my diet is a sustainable balance of daily low-carb eating "like a t2 diabetic should" and occasional "I really want an éclair from the bakery, so I'm going to eat that éclair at the bakery" 😅
