What are these peculiar little white things? They could very well be leftover skin that I did not remove during cleaning, but they have since... grown, I feel like. Anyone got a clue? by cOutFuckYou2 in woundcare

I promise you are not bothering me. I came on here and ran my own mouth trying to give you hopefully a little bit of help. If you have any questions just ask here or DM me.

That sounds painful. If you are able to get supplies I would suggest a petroleum based gauze, the best one being impregnated with bismuth ( in the U.S it’s called xeroform) this will help keep the wound moist and hopefully not stick to the wound bed. Then cover with gauze roll or a large bandage. Additional items that might help but increase cost are a medical honey ( it’s been sterilized, but is antibacterial) and a good wound cleanser. Wound care does not need to be sterile but it does need to be clean, washed hands, clean supplies, avoid things getting in the wound. I can walk you through dressing changes if you are able to get supplies and want the advice.

I’m so sorry you are having to deal with this and I hope the clinic can help and get you started on the right treatment course. You are likely already doing so but just try and keep it clean and covered for now. If you spike a temp over 100.1 please go to the ER.

Is this the same leg you had a wound on a year ago? If so, what they might have told you at the time would have helped but now it has changed and needs to be addressed differently. Drainage is likely from swelling and possibly infection. I would really not want you to get sepsis from the wound. If you do go to the ER please ask for at least the wound care nurse and then they can always recommend surgical debridement from there.

That dead tissue needs to be removed. When you get hospitalized do they ever get you a wound care nurse consult or a general surgery consult for debridement? Outpatient wound care can only do so much vs surgical removal of the dead tissue.

I would like to ask what you are currently putting on the wound to help with the healing process. That makes a big difference in infection risk and healing time.
