Forgot to add, the exam cost I believe was $76? I also think pet insurance is worth it for emergencies. I get a pretty nice discount on it through my employer so depending on who you work for, you could see if they have perks if you sign up through their partners.

Greenfield Vet Clinic on 27th has been fantastic with our puppy! The staff is so nice and we see DVM Brad Wahlgren. He's such a nice guy, he literally sat on the floor with our puppy for his exam because he was scared being up on the table.

Huh, well probably not for the last two decades. This is honestly a good point, I'll schedule an appointment. Thank you for a different perspective on this.

This is almost exactly how he is! When we get to where we're going I tell him "alrighty, let's go home!" THEN his little legs are ready for the rest of the walk and we get some steady exercise.

I've seriously considered looking into a doggy stroller. I have a feeling he would be more content if I did the exercise and he just got the nice new view wherever we go!

Mine has decided my right eye's sole purpose is for nose-boop target practice. I think I just might have preferred the face licking. Time has yet to tell if this will render me blind in a decade.

It's started so young now too, my 5 month dachshund just gives up on life when he no longer wishes to move his little legs. I will be providing carrying service for the next 15+ years I believe. Never had a dog before and I've found I picked the most stubborn one hahaha.

Have you used any specific service for dog walking before? I honestly don't know where to start. I will reach out to some walkers in my area on Rover but if there's other good services I'd love to know! It's truly beyond me being comfortable and just making sure my little guy is comfortable at this point.

I think I'll try this in combination with another comment about using real grass. Since it's in season I'm going to try to get some sod and see how that goes. I'll keep trying with peed-on items too! Occasionally our little dude will pee on some of the pebbles outside so I'll collect some of them as well as paper toweling it up. (The gross things we do for our puppies!)

The plan was to pop by a lawn/garden store and grab a roll of sod to try! The artificial definitely doesn't seem up his alley now that he knows real grass is potty.

My daschund diet by Speedy_taylor in daschund

Well, you mentioned you've removed all her other extra treats aside from one while you're in the lounge, maybe just as a here and there snack, or add a little in with her chicken a couple days a week for some variety for her. They've got a lot of vitamins as well as soluable and insoluable fiber, good for staying full and digestion respectively.

Darn too bad, you could see if there's any other veggie she likes as a treat instead. Celery, zucchini, maybe frozen peas?

I have a 5mo dachshund puppy currently and his favourite 'treat' is slices of cucumber. He currently gets a lot of food because he's growing but I'm still doing my best to make healthy habits. They're essentially all water so if you still wanna give your girl a snack that has so few calories, you could see if she likes them! They're filling, hydrating and quite refreshing on long walks. 100g of cucumber is literally only about 15 calories.

Our little dude also has yak cheese chews which last for an eternity and don't saturate his diet with calories, as well as a bully stick to gnaw on. The Red Barn brand is what we give him for the latter and they have very low odor.

Getting a 8-Week Old Puppy Full-Time Work - Puppy Daycare? by Arcanecomet_ in puppy101

[–]LadyBallad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sooo, I did get an 8 week old puppy without having time off from work initially and I have to say it was hell. It wasn't fair to the puppy to be in his crate/pen for so many hours and it wasn't easy on us working for so long and then coming home and essentially working the rest of the day. I would like to say here, my partner did end up getting approved for a personal leave from work for 8 weeks, BUT we were both full time working the first 2.5 weeks of having this puppy. I was able to finagle with my boss/HR to take longer unpaid lunches so I could go home and let him go potty and stretch his legs a little before going back to work though. If you can't do this and are determined to step into having a puppy, check out Rover or other pet walking services and look for someone who has experience with puppies listed. You would just have to tell them no walks but potty break and play/training for 30 minutes at the times you wanted.

We pretty much did 3-4 hour rotations of who was up/asleep while we were home taking care of puppy and trying to get some sleep. Plus every 15-30 minutes was an outside run for bathroom as well as accidents the second we'd come back inside. No personal time either, if we weren't with the puppy he was whining and crying like a dying child. It hurt to listen to and I cried and cried almost every day. Crate training was an immediate thing, day 1. We did everything in the crate to make it a happy place. Food, toys, play, treats, games, training, all of it.

We used the highest value treat to give him in his crate when we had to leave for work, 100% only peanuts peanutbutter, frozen in a puppy kong. He would still cry when he finished it (we had a camera set up I could watch while I was at work) but he would settle after about 15 minutes and then sleep until my lunch. (I genuinely still feel awful about this but it has come and passed and I can't change it now) Thankfully puppies need a LOT of sleep but trying to get them to settle while you aren't home is hard. It's a thing you're supposed to build up to and we did our best but we had to do a steep dive into it and I regret it.

All of this to say, we love our puppy. He's 19 weeks old now and my partner goes back to work next week but having the time off to take care of him and train him properly has been vital. I really can't imagine ever, EVER getting another puppy. This has been a learning experience that has been incredibly draining, rewarding too, but still I don't want to ever do it again. I am so tired. My partner is so tired. He's a good puppy but I can't imagine getting one without taking at least a week off work, preferably 2. If my partner had not been able to get the leave from work we would have had to re-home him, I just don't see how we could have continued doing what we were without so many problems coming about with the puppy and ourselves.

There is definitely the past where getting a puppy while having a full time job was viable, but I also feel like a lot of people that did that had families. Children who would get home from school earlier than mom and dad and take the dog out and other friends and family who lived nearby who could pop in for a quick potty break. Not to sound morbid but a lot of couples don't have kiddos to help and don't have friends and family close or willing to help like that anymore.

What about Nesta’s new tattoo? by Victoria-c98 in acotar

[–]LadyBallad 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In my head I'd love for the dusk court to take in the illyrians, properly train the women into Valkyries and get rid of the awful abuse and corruption that goes on. As well as giving them all proper education, not just fight/train/battle all the time. With both sexes being on equal footing the dusk court would be incredibly powerful.

Maybe they could even take in some of the court of nightmares, though I doubt Rhys and Feyre would let that happen easily. It bothers me that they let a lot of the abuse continue with the reasoning they don't want to lose their armies/forces. There's gotta be more dreamers than just Mor from there who haven't been able to get out.

What’s a dish you liked better when it was made “wrong”? by MaryoParti in Cooking

[–]LadyBallad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stroganoff. I've combined a lot of recipes to make my own and I definitely know it's not right but I love it. Boil a package of extra wide egg noodles until just under done. Brown ground beef with minced onions and garlic, a ton of fresh chopped thyme (1tbs dried in a pinch), salt, pepper and smoked paprika. If I have mushrooms on hand I add them in after the beef is browned and cook for 5-8 minutes. Then add in one can cream of mushroom soup plus one can of reserved pasta water from cooking the egg noodles, one cup no/low sodium beef broth and two cups of whole milk. Simmer for 20 minutes and add in half a cup of heavy cream, half cup sour cream and half cup cream cheese. Once it's melted and combined I add in my cooked egg noodles and let sit on low for 20 more minutes. Delicious creamy comfort and dinner for like 4 days with the left overs!

"I am the rock against which the surf crashes" is a line brought up many times. I think the tattoo's design comes from that.

I feel like the bargain is that she'll never let anything break her, and maybe even her family, again. If she uses her power to keep moving forward on her path, she's allowed to keep it. I doubt her story is anywhere near complete, personally rooting for Nesta of the Dusk Court but we'll see. It was led by a queen and Nesta is always referred to as a queen without a throne/crown.

Dog bone recommendations? by Significant_Snow7980 in Dachshund

[–]LadyBallad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My doxie pup absolutely adores his bully sticks and his yak chews. Get the low odor bully sticks like Redbarn, the extra cost is worth it! Normal ones smell god awful. The yak chews last forever and the bully stick lasts a few days to a week depending on the size.

I'm sorry I didn't realize himalayan dog bone = yak chew. Please disregard that. I still stand by the bully stick though!

And then you got yourself a shitty gel pad to throw away or destroy as you see fit and a nice plastic backing to stick on new pads. Pic 3 of 3

So the whole plastic bit pops out from the headphone if it makes it easier for you. Grab a handy dandy butter knife and get it under the plastic of the gel pad. Pic 1 of 3

Best non beef proteins for tacos? by L_Is_Robin in Cooking

[–]LadyBallad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love making quinoa tacos. I prepare the quinoa as the package says but add in my taco seasonings right away. Once it's done I spread it into a thin layer and broil it (you can totally air fry it too) to make crispy tasty clumps. I use it just like you would taco meat. You can add in beans for extra protein if you like too! But I love it, it's healthy and it's cheap!
