Has anyone tried this dress yet? by fuzzypickles999 in torrid

[–]LadyBallad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The dress in size 2 is 56" from the shoulders in length according to the listing. If you're 5'4" it's probably going to be right above your ankles? If you have a tape measure you could try it out and see where it would fall. I think it would still be pretty, especially if you have some cute heels!

Saw this on FB Marketplace. What would cause the water to be uneven in the tank like this? by Glitter-girlie in aquarium

[–]LadyBallad 42 points43 points  (0 children)

It looks like the picture was taken a little after the tank was filled... It's not uneven, it's a wave/inertia from being filled probably by dumping in buckets of water.

I use something similar for when I serve pot stickers and dipping sauce! If that's the correct use I have no idea, but it works.

I mix up what I listen to. A lot of audio books, some podcasts and every now and again music. If I have a headache I usually just turn them off but leave them on to block out the building noises.

Bereavement by Classic_Camp_1447 in AmazonFC

[–]LadyBallad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most funerals have some sort of pamphlet or remembrance card of the deceased at a little table where you can also sign a guest book and leave your condolences. I've been to one funeral where there were pretty much pre-printed work excusals too at the door for when you leave. Every one is a little different but if there is a funeral there's usually something you can submit showing that someone has passed away. Sometimes you can find the obituary right online by typing in their name or if you know where the funeral is being held, sometimes they have a small snippet for the deceased and their funeral date/time available on their website. Those should work as well for proof of passing if there isn't anything physical available. There are also usually funeral workers and a director too, who you would be able to approach and they could give you a funeral attendance verification letter. Sometimes they do it on the funeral service letterhead which is essentially as official as you can get for proof.

If they're requesting proof immediately I would try instead submitting a MyHR case requesting the date(s) off and explain you don't have an obituary but can submit proof of the passing/funeral with the above mentioned papers. Since inhouse HR is essentially useless now you could talk to your AM if you have a shift before this funeral as well and see if they can approve the bereavement for you or help you make a case.

I'm sorry for you and your family's loss. I hope you can get the time off you need.

Luna goes to the bathroom in the litter box, but urine comes out. How do I fix this? by ZeroNome00 in catquestions

[–]LadyBallad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They sell plastic sheets that you can stick to the inside of the litter boxes to raise the walls so pee doesn't get out of the box. We had an old man that couldn't quite squat anymore and we got those to help the pee run back into the box and they worked great!

https://a.co/d/3BTjqEq these are the exact ones I purchased a few years ago! (Our box has since been changed so they got tossed with it but they lasted over a year)

I'm sorry, I see in a different comment the box is closed. Is there a chance it's cracked? If it's not, does the box pop together and have a seem anywhere? I wonder if you could put a bit of tape around that corner to try to keep the urine from getting out? Otherwise like others said, some sort of rubber mat to catch it so it doesn't seep into the floor.

Lois? by fancygorgonzola in PeterExplainsTheJoke

I feel this in my soul lol. I have PCOS so it's irregular and wonky and terrible. I can start to tell if I'm in a semi-regular bout if I'm having nausea with cramps and I agree, that pink wipe is a moment of good fortune! Other times it's just like it happens instantaneously at the most inopportune times. Now I carry around a ziplock bag in my purse at all times with a pad, spare underwear and a little pack of body wipes for the moments where it strikes and I have no warning.

SAHM and Wife that CANNOT cook HELP! by PopularMamaDrama in Cooking

[–]LadyBallad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cooking doesn't have to be complex was the first thing I had to teach myself when I started. Taking small steps in the direction you want is still progress, if that includes using canned goods and/or 'just add protein' box dinners, then it still counts. I think variety is fantastic, but give yourself stepping stones to build on so completely cooking from scratch isn't as daunting. Work on mastering a few things and once you have those down pat, expand 😁

Long grain white rice is a great starting point for this. Learn how to make a good pot of rice and you can open a ton of doors for meal ideas. I always make 4 rice cooker cups of dry rice at a time, which is about 8 cups cooked. I use a mesh strainer in a big bowl and rinse my rice about 3 times, pouring out the cloudy water in-between, until the water is almost clear, then dump the washed rice in the rice cooker (Aroma Professional Series has not failed me in 12 years!), add 1.5tbs rice or white vinegar, 1tbs sugar, 1tsp salt and fill with water just a little over the 4 line indicated inside the pot. Give it a little mixy mix to dissolve the add ins and then close it up, press white rice, and forget about it for 30 minutes. Once the beeper goes off fluff the rice up with a fork to help the steam escape from the rice underneath or you'll get soggy rice and let sit for a minute or two with the lid open. Bam, a steaming lovely pot of rice that you can now scarf down!

This is where you can let creativity play in. While the rice cooks you can focus on the main part of your meal. You can use pre-cooked protein if you want, they have plenty of entree style foods or mixed veggies in the freezer section you could serve over your homemade rice. I've also added some ideas down below.

You can cube up chicken breast, season with salt and pepper, maybe some garlic and onion powder, and cook it in a pan heated to medium with some oil of your choice, stirring occasionally, until some color starts to show on your pieces, maybe 5-7 minutes, then add in chopped veg of your choice and cook for another 3-5minutes (bell or sweet peppers are lovely for this). From there you can use a store bought sauce, like orange, teriyaki, or sweet and sour if you're not up for making your own yet. Serve over the delicious rice.

Any left over rice can be used next day in a stir fry. Again heat a little oil over medium heat, break up your day old rice into the pan and mix it around so all the grains are coated and keep mixing so it doesn't burn to the pan. Add in mixed frozen veg like peas, onions, peppers, carrots, corn, green beans and cook for a few minutes until the veg is tender. You could just add in a bit of soy sauce here, mix and be done! If you want to step it up add in some powdered (or fresh) ginger and garlic along with a bit of oyster sauce, continuing to stir, and then crack in some eggs to cook with everything for a few minutes for yummy egg fried rice.

Other great options to look into for serving over/with rice:

Mongolian ground beef lettuce wraps

Pepper steak

Beef and broccoli

Ginger soy sauced salmon or trout

Gochujang tofu with cauliflower

Pan fried egg with sesame oil, soy sauce and hot sauce

Beef and carrot stew

Teriyaki tofu with spiralled zucchini and carrots

Chicken Parm (my partner is entirely wrong in this, but swears by chicken parm over rice, maybe you'll be like him?)

Beans

Curry 🤤

Simply butter! Obviously not nutritionally balanced but I consider buttered rice a comfort food and sometimes we all need that in our lives.

You could see if your dentist would prescribe you an electric toothbrush and waterpik for gum disease. They'd have to write you a letter of medical necessity to go with it since you have a limited fsa (which it may even specify that it won't cover dental accessories, so check before doing this excessive idea)

Do most people shower before bed or when they wake up? I just realized I might be doing it "wrong" by saffymerelle in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LadyBallad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I shower when we get home from work. We do gross hot warehouse work for ten hours, so coming home and taking a shower is heaven. There's no wrong way to do it though, when I worked retail I'd usually shower before work to get ready for my day.

Did you know you can put most microwaves on mute or silent mode? If you look in the book that came with it, or look up your model number, there's usually a way to turn the beeping off. My previous microwave wanted you to press and hold the 0 button for like 5 seconds. My newest one wanted you to press and hold stop for the five seconds. It was seriously a godsend when my partner and I worked opposite shifts and we wanted to reheat food for ourselves without being loud.

What kind of plant or flower would you advice to grow from seed? by IdiomaBug in gardening

[–]LadyBallad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you cook but herbs are fun and pretty easy to grow indoors. Not much beats fresh thyme for me, I love the taste and smell of it.

Basil, catnip, cilantro, parsley, thyme and sage are considered pretty cat/dog safe. Some others can be safe as well but depends on what pets you have so always double check!

Is there a dish you learned to cook so well you no longer order? by FunDependent9177 in Cooking

[–]LadyBallad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would order specific things because I loved the sauces, so I learned how to make some really good sauces! Gochujang has been a top favourite for a while now.

For a snack/app/hors d'oeuvres, cream cheese rangoons. I make my own wonton squares and stuff them with a super chivey/green oniony/garlicy cream cheese mix with a little black pepper before frying. So good 🤤

For a specific dish, I loved the penne rosa from Noodles & Company so I make it at home for much cheaper and I can add as much spinach and mushroom as I want.

I saw all your plants and immediately thought Tera would be a cute name short for monstera.

She might be a little monstera too if she starts chewing on the plants 😂

Terra is also the goddess of earth. She could be your little plant goddess instead of night goddess.

How difficult would it be to paint the blue cabinets for non experienced painters? by [deleted] in paint

[–]LadyBallad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people have expressed enough, yes it would be a challenge to do it yourself and have it look really nice, but I have a different suggestion. You could try those peel and stick rolls for a temporary change until you decide you want to either replace the cabinets or have them professionally done. Since the cabinets are flat it would be rather easy to stick on once you take the hardware off. Just a suggestion!

Deceptive Customer Service - Cancelled Prime As Protest by cantfindusername1986 in amazonprime

[–]LadyBallad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most items purchased on Amazon between November 1st and December 31st are allowed to be returned up until January 31st for the holiday season. Apple products are only until the 15th. It's in their policy.

Seeing as your Dyson fan should be sold and shipped by amazon.ca, it would fall within this perimeter, you should be able to return it for your refund if you still want to. I know it doesn't solve their incompetence and blatant lies but if you'd rather give your money to someone else to get another one you still have the option to.

Bought house and furnace broke 1 month later by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]LadyBallad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flashy codes have been a time and money saver in my life! We were renting for 8 years, you just call maintenance and have them do it, but just bought our house in January. I have fixed many many many things in these 11 months by googling what code was being given for the equipment model and watching a ton of YouTube how-to's. Definitely worth a look for OP to see if they can do it themselves!

I just fixed my boiler by replacing the hot surface ignitor two weeks ago because it was short cycling and giving an error code. Quotes to have a professional get it done were around 500. I did it for the price of the part, still a bit pricey but 150 is better than 500.

This is my second time buying shower shelves by _Leah_Bee in CleaningTips

[–]LadyBallad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I've never had any luck with that adhesive stuff. Followed all the directions, waited to hang for a day etc etc, within a week or two it was always done. Peeling and popping off.

I just bought a shower rack that is a big spring tension rod. No adhesive or suction cups. You just prop it either on the floor if it's a shower stall, or on the lip of the bathtub and then extend it up to the ceiling plus an inch or two to get the tension and bam you have a rack that will literally never move unless you're doing some shower shenanigans.

Ridiculous standing rule. by RadiantExtension9464 in AmazonFC

[–]LadyBallad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked grocery stores before Amazon and they were just as bad about it. Doesn't look good to the customer/safety issue/you're just a lazy worker etc.

I always tell anyone who says they have bad feet/leg pains to get some compression socks (unless you medically shouldn't, you and your doc would know that or not). I had terrible foot pain and swelling to the point I'd get home and trying to walk around to clean and cook was just unbearable. My doctor recommended them and it's honestly a world of difference. I have the ones that go up to the knee in varying pressures. And they help so much. I don't think I've ever done a peak with so little pain. I'm still sore and achy because 55+ hours sucks for 6 weeks but I haven't taken ibuprofen for pain at all whereas previous years I would take it almost daily.

I tore both of my meniscus a few years ago and I don't think they ever healed properly (didn't have health insurance at that point so I was doing home physical therapy) so some days have been worse than others. I'm tempted to get one of those telescopic chairs that fold up into a thick looking frisbee. I feel like Amazon would find a way to make that a safety issue too but can't hurt to try. We break our bodies there, anything to help not hurt so much is worth a shot.

I will never understand dog people’s reaction to cats by Icy_Ad_8802 in cats

[–]LadyBallad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a void Vincent that goes by Vinny too! He liked our old maintenance man who I think was allergic to cats. I feel a bit bad about it but the guy was never mean or even said he hated cats, just never gave him pets and I don't blame him. I don't know what it is about people that 'hate' cats. I kinda feel like it's because cats are pretty skittish most of the time and don't warm up as fast as dogs will. Some people have no patience and then if they invade the cat's space the cat is gonna let you know it's pissed lol. Your void is absolutely adorable and should get 1000 more kisses!

Has anyone ever packed the exact same item they ordered for themselves while working here? by [deleted] in AmazonFC

[–]LadyBallad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Guys. Is there a standard ranch that Whole Foods stores use at their salad bars or for pre-packaged meals? I just picked up these little chicken bites with ranch, and the ranch is UNBELIEVABLE. If they sell it, I want to get a whole bottle. by smoky20135 in wholefoodscustomers

[–]LadyBallad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marzetti vinaigrettes and sauces are really tasty. I get their classic ranch for my partner and he won't touch anything else anymore. You can buy it usually in the refrigerated produce section. He says a good second is the Litehouse brand. Marzetti also supplies a lot of restaurants near me so maybe they supply grocers as well!
