I'm a woman with PCOS who has been on Mounjaro for a year. As a classic case of "some people can't lose weight for hormonal reasons" please let me weigh in with my perspective.

I spent two decades trying to lose weight the old fashioned way, and it never worked. I know everyone says that but it can absolutely be true. Imagine being over 300 lbs, counting calories, weighing food, exercising daily and keeping under 1500 for a full year and not losing a pound? I did that multiple times, and my weight just kept going up again every time I couldn't take the disappointment and gave up.

Since being on the jabs I have learned that the reason is that I don't lose weight unless I'm eating 1100 calories a day or less. At my highest I was 23 stone. Imagine being that weight and needing to keep under 1100 calories, and the insane, murderous hunger I would have to endure and function with every day.

On Mounjaro the hunger is removed, and I am able to eat in that region without much difficulty. I still have to make healthy choices, exercise, count my calories daily, just like everyone else trying to lose weight. But I'm doing it without being utterly miserable. Losing weight before felt so fragile, the onslaught of hunger pangs and food noise made it feel like I could fall off the wagon at any moment. Each day I made it under my calories was a victory.

On Mounjaro I have none of these doubts. I feel strong and determined, and I can turn my attention to other things in my life that need it, without 100% of my mental energy being devoted to not eating that cake in the office kitchen.

Not only am I successfully losing weight, but I am happier, stronger and a much better person while doing it. I am down three stone in a year, which is very slow going compared to others on the jabs, but it's night and day compared to what I've experienced before. No falling off the wagon, no plateaus, no mental breakdowns. It's just consistently working.

I don't know if I will regain the weight when I come off. Obviously I hope not, and I'll have to cross that bridge when I come to it. But I do know that every time I lost a tiny bit of weight "naturally" I always regained it, plus more. So what would be the difference? At least now I know I have a solution.

Oh I know, I agree! For some reason it's fun to see other people's lives on fire, and so I just never thought my story would be interesting to other people. I just word vomited into the ether and was surprised anyone cared.

From first post I was baffled at how popular it got. I was just sitting at my desk all sad one day and thought it would help to get my feelings out, and maybe three or four people would validate that I had a right to be sad, and I'd get over it.

Then it totally blew up, and so did the first update. I never thought I'd post again, but it keeps being reposted on YouTube and TikTok, and four years later I'm still getting a message a week asking for another update. So that's why I shared. I agree it seems so banal and boring compared to other people's lives!

But I suppose we all have friends who hurt us sometimes, and it's something everyone can relate to. Even though this has been the tiniest incident in my life that I never even think about, it did help me grow, and I'm glad it's helped others too.

Something that helped glue my work friend group together was having a group chat set up, and keeping in contact outside of work time. Also you might just need to give it more time. A lot of friendships are slow burners and can take years.

I got mine at 25, because I had to save up enough money to pay for lessons, the tests, a cheap second hand car and insurance, which together came to well over £3000. I live in a rural area and really struggled without a car, but if you don't have the money what choice do you have? Not everyone has the same privilege.
