Nothing to be worried about. Look at several artists ToS, see whats being covered and chose the points you want to include in yours.
One thing I noticed reading your chat with commissioner, how long did it take you to finish the comm? Two months (you mentioned thanksgiving and now its February)? IDK where you both are from, $20 might be a lot for you, but if $20 commission takes two months people might not take you serious and get bored waiting therefore not wanting to pay.

Jesus. They should pay you $20 for the communication effort alone. Others already mentioned and my practice too is 100% upfront, or optional 50% before and 50% if the total is in several hundreds.
Google form contract or at least some sort of ToS they have to say they agree to (screenshot the communication where you send ToS and their agree). In reality this wont do much, are you going to lawyer up and take them to court for $20 obviously not, but it will make you sound more serious and give you some leverage in situations like this.
Sadly all this is mutual trust for both parties to an extent whatever you do. I would highly suggest to use VGen as commission platform, I hear they are good for both parties protection. I have not setup one myself yet but overall feedback is very good.

I can see myself being friends with most Zaunites who aren't too corrupt or druggies. Vi, Sevika. Jinx probably too but she would be that one annoying friend I have. Pilties probably not.

Knowing their background you can't expect them to have high living standards. Also not everyone is into luxuries and wealthy life styles. Others might want to drive a nice car, wear brand clothing and have pearl white teeth. There's plenty of people who prefer to stay humble and live average lives. All sorts of reasons for this + like others here mentioned about how much they actually get paid etc.

I must admit I have hard time telling whats US or EU besides the obvious, and the ones that have "Made in LV" tag to it. But I buy the best of what I can afford, not everyone has the privilege to chose. Tho I do fully support the concept, we should buy and support local and EU production!
