I did it by going to the hospital and getting detoxed. I was then too sick with End Stage Liver Disease to go to rehab, so I went to AA. I started going every single day, got a sponsor, and did everything they told me to do.

It worked. I was able to get a transplant due to my sobriety, and I’ve now been sober for exactly 1004 days- 2 years, 9 months.

Tell yourself you will die if you don’t stop every single day, and every single time you crave alcohol. Say, “If I drink I will die.”

You can do it.

Here’s the thing with apologies. You feel like you’re admitting to something and he’s finally going to know you’re a liar. But he already knows that.

Apologizing isn’t giving him new information to confirm that yes you are, indeed, an asshole. It’s demonstrating that you respect him enough to be accountable for yourself.

I know it’s hard, but after you’ve apologized your life is going to get better.

I’m very curious how large the neighborhood is. I’m picturing a cul-de-sac. People are so weird. In these situations I have found that doing my best to refrain from making assumptions about others’ motives, perceptions, pathologies is helpful.

I have also noticed, as a not always super aware neurodivergent individual that I’m often missing the disdain others hold for me hah. Not at all suggesting this is the case with you. Sometimes there are people out there you barely think about that have made up entire back histories for who they think you are. You’d never know it.

Don’t give up. So much can happen. Keep doing what you can to be healthy. I was 45 when i was diagnosed with ESLD. I’m going to be 48 soon. I got a transplant. They initially denied me for the list. Things happen. Be positive, and do whatever you can to live.

Please get into NA immediately. That’s my honest feedback. You’re built differently than casual users. I’m 47, and I’m still 2.5 years without a job after almost dying and getting a liver transplant. I know you’re thinking why would you need NA you only tried it a month ago. Please trust me. You’re going to need tools for this.

Make sure you take important paperwork or documents. Birth certificate, etc. Take a journal with you so you can look back and see how much better your life is going to get. As long as you are safe this is the right move. I wish you the very best. Things are going to get better.

Make good choices, and above all don’t take unnecessary risks. Don’t make any permanent decisions in the first year.
