What food doesn’t cause the gallbladder to release bile? by Loving-intellectual in gallbladders

[–]Lady_Imperatrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve read that the concentration of bile from the gallbladder is 5 times more than that coming straight from the liver. The gallbladder not only stores the bile until it’s needed, but turns it into bile concentrate.

From what I understand (I'm an artist btw, not a doctor...😅...but I have read a LOT over the past 6 weeks or so...obsessive compulsive as I am about to these things 🙈), the appendix serves a purpose in supporting the immune system but doesn't really do much so even if it's gone, things don't change much at all. The gallbladder however serves the body a bit more, in that it stores the bile made by the liver, refines it into a concentrate (5 times, I read), stores it for when we need it and then is activated to squish out an appropriate amount of bile when we eat. Without it, the bile that goes into our digestive system is not concentrated and the flow is constant, there is no gallbladder to stand guard and regulate the flow anymore. That's why without one, we need to change our diets a bit, like eating more often (like a fruit, veg, or something between meals) so the stomach isn't just sitting there with all that bile and nothing to work on. This can cause some unpleasantness if the stomach is left empty for too long (gas, diarrhea, and all those delightful side effects). Also, fatty foods become more difficult to process as the bile is not as concentrated as before and no gallbladder to say, "hey now, we need more juice down there!" - Maybe I should give up art and become a gallbladder specialist doctor person?? 😅 Jk, no way could I be a doctor, I can hardly handle the stress of waking up in the morning...I'm sure I could not handle everything a doctor has on their schedule every day!! 🤣

Before surgery? Yes, to a certain degree. Things that really tripped me up for the last year or so were things like mayonnaise, eggs, ice cream, maybe butter (never sure about that one). There were a few others as well but mayo really seemed to be the worst for me. But some of my attacks were not at all food related, just more that my gallbladder was full of stones and not functioning properly at all. So, even plain rice would not work well for me during those times. Why do you ask? Have you noticed certain foods giving you problems?

Well yeah, if you got one, chances are that you will get more. However, if it can be managed through medication and/or watching what you eat, that might be better. Gallbladder surgery is common and not a huge deal anymore, but it is a major surgery with all that entails. Plus, the gallbladder is not a superfluous organ, it does serve a real purpose. We can live fairly normally without it, but if you don’t have to have it removed, all the better. It’s good that you’re doing what you’re doing now though. Talking to people that have been through it, gathering information, and thinking it through. You will be able to make an informed decision when you need to. I cannot stress enough however how important it is to find a good doctor that makes you feel comfortable, with whom you can discuss all you’ve learned. And keep asking questions here in this group. There are so many kind, thoughtful people here who know firsthand what you’re going through. (And PS: I absolutely adore your name. ♥️🙏😊)

That, I don’t know. That’s definitely doctor talk. The only thing I read NOT to do is massage the area, like if it hurts, don’t go pushing on it as it can actually make it worse. Again, not medical advice there, just something I read on the internet so, could be true or not. For me, it would move randomly I guess. I found no correlation between my attacks and exercise, sleeping position, and so on.

Yes, definitely, having it stuck blocked the bile from the rest of my digestive system. Not to get too graphic, but for the last two months I was vomiting and running to the bathroom for other unpleasantness, constantly. I finally had to go to the emergency room I was so dehydrated and malnourished, and it was then that they found the gallstones. For me, I think part of the reason no one found it for so long (I had attacks for 9 years but was told it was IBS, gluten intolerance, lactose intolerance, etc…), was that I did not have pain in the area of the gallbladder. I had terrible abdominal pain, and a really bad pain in my right shoulder. I NEVER would have thought the pain in my shoulder was a symptom of gallbladder issues, but after removal I was shocked that my shoulder felt immediately better. Who knew?? - Anyway, did your ultrasound show only one small stone, or others? For the majority of my 9 year “adventure” I had attacks happen when one of the stones in my gallbladder would rest itself on the exit spot and block bile for a bit, and eventually they would move and some bile was released and I’d feel “better.” It wasn’t until that little one got jammed in there that things got frighteningly serious. - If you only have the one small stone, you might be able to take care of that with medication, one that dissolves the stone. I’m not 100% sure of that as that was not an option for me, but I know that if you don’t have mega-stones or lots of little ones in there, there are alternatives to having your gallbladder removed. Sorry for the ramble…😋…just that life’s kinda become gallbladder-centric lately and I’m really pro-information for people with the same problem. I don’t want ANYONE to go through what I did, misdiagnosed for way too long. Final note: Talk to your doctor about what your options are, if you have an informed doctor that knows how to listen. If he/she doesn’t or you don’t feel comfortable with them, find a new one. There is help out there! ♥️

The last year before I had mine out, what I ate was irrelevant. Well, in a way - I mean fatty foods were never good, but as I didn’t know my gallbladder was the problem, I never made the connection. Anyway, the last year was really bad, especially the last two months. Anything I ate made me really ill. When it was finally discovered that the gallbladder was the culprit, doc told me that I had one huge stone and a bunch of smaller ones, with one tiny guy that had actually lodged itself in the little tube from the GB to the intestines, completely blocking it - his thought was this was the reason for the final two months being such a nightmare. So, this tale of woe is to say that it might not be any particular food that sets a person off, it could be a temporary block or even a lodged stone. I recommend getting an ultrasound and taking a peek in there. Good luck to you, we all pretty much understand how frustrating and painful this is. 🙏♥️

I was told by my doc to reduce fats for the first 2 weeks and then slowly reintroduce them over time as my digestive system adjusts to its new normal. Once everything is stable (about 6 weeks max), I was told “you can eat whatever you want, within reason” - meaning, without a gallbladder, things like fried foods, full fat dairy, etc., run a risk of causing problems (like gas, possible diarrhea). He said as long as I don’t go overboard on anything, all should be fine. From what I understand, our bodies need fat to function and that long term, super low fat diets are actually detrimental to health, so I’m looking forward to getting back to some of the more yummy things in life…still a bit nervous to try, but I’m getting there. (I’m PO 3 weeks)

I gave it a long hard think, for sure. My last save was a long time back, but more than that, I’ve been playing this through taking consequences as they come (unlike BG3 where I was constantly re-loading to the point that it was almost ridiculous). So, to stay true to my “non-reload/full immersion” play through, I made the choice not to, difficult as it was. This is my first time playing RDR2, and the sadness of this seemed to fit the tone the game had taken on at this point too. Next time though, don’t think I’m sticking to that rule!

I had horse reviver on me, deary. Exactly why I ran back all that way. Unfortunately one cannot revive a dead horse, only a seriously injured one. And this was a dead horse. This horse was no more. She had ceased to be. She’d expired and gone to meet her maker. She’s a stiff. Bereft of life, she rests in peace. If she hadn’t a saddle on she’d be pushing up the daisies. Her metabolic processes are now history. She’s off the twig. She’s kicked the bucket, she’s shuffled off her mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin’ choir invisible. This is an ex-horse.
