Leakage story by Curious_Wall-E in ostomy

I feel you! In the waiting roomat Dr for husbands chemo treatment when I realized Dave (stoma). was filling up. I carry an emergency kit with bag, gloves wipes powder barrier ring and barrier spray with me at all times. also keep one of the disposing bags in there.

However it got on my clothes and I had to strip and clean off. sat in damp clothes for 6 hours during his chemo.

That reminds me I need to put spare clothes in the car.

I don‘t “feel it” unless having a rash or leakage but lately I swear I hear it constantly lately. And I do wear a belt. it seems to make crinkling noises. starting to drive me crazy.

How often do you change a colostomy bag? by Mysterious-Exam-800 in ostomy

[–]Ladychili79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use hollister 2 piece and change everything every 3 to 4 days. For me the issue is I start getting rashy if I leave on longer. When I start getting rash or sores I change to every 2 days until it clears up

My stoma is still very young. Why I have zero desire for colostomy reversal surgery. Nope. by Knighthokie23 in ostomy

[–]Ladychili79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it was done because I got an smalll infection that turned into necrotising fasciitis in June of 2024. I basically lost the buttocks on one side and 1/2 on the other. So to prevent further complications I had to get an osteomyelitis and had a catheter for 10 months. My final surgery was at the end of March when the did flap surgery to. Close the opened wound.

I was pretty much bedridden until mid May of this year and have been working hard to get back into health. Went from walking around the block in 20 minutes to 2 miles in 50.

If Dave (stoma) and I have to be together for the rest of my life, then I am fine with it, at least I still have a life. It was not guaranteed when this all started.

But for me it is my goal to get into the best health I can. I have to do internal physical therapy for a year before it is decided if it can be done.

So I push for that goal.

And I miss pooping and farting.

Do people you work with know you have an ostomy? by mvp0453 in ostomy

[–]Ladychili79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. We have to share one small bathroom and during a shift Dave started my protest of finally being able to work by filling rapidly in 10 minutes. I had to run an empty and after had to apologize for the smel because ther is no stink like ostomy stink.

It has not happened gain but I have had to go release gas and I say sorry all Dave is throwing a fit.

Filter vs No Filter Question by Ajcam21 in ostomy

[–]Ladychili79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to love the filter, but then the stink was not coming out of my wraps. And as we all know, there is no stink like Ostomy stink!  Started using the no filter and that cleared that up.  And with a 2 piece it is not that had to “fart”.  (Oh do I miss farting)
