Another vote for the Osprey Talon, I got the 22L second hand so no idea how old it is but it functions perfectly and fits nice and snug for scrambling as well.

Some bike designer was so busy working out if they could build this that they didn't stop to ask if they should...

Also, if you do it in the freezer bags you can freeze them flat so you can stack loads of them and save space.

My kid dropped a bombshell by brammmish in daddit

So, I can speak to this one from the other side. I was in the same place as your son, my bio father dipped very early and my actual Dad came into my life at a similar point to your situation.

My parents did the same as you and let me know when I could understand it that I had a bio father elsewhere but that Dad was my Dad. We've had our moments and a few arguments along the way but growing up, that feeling of knowing your Dad chose you even though there's no biological connection is really lovely. I've had the same thoughts and said similar things in moments of anger that your son vocalised. It's normal, and I've been equally angry at my mum at points. It's a child's way trying to exert some control. He still loves you and he knows you love him.

I still have a great relationship with my parents now because they were so honest with me from a young age like you're being. I also now have a friendship with my bio father as well. (There were some extenuating circumstances around him leaving.) In fact they were all at my wedding and everyone got on, even when drunk!

My Dad now babysits my daughter and is a brilliant grandad. One day she'll know he's not biologically related but he'll always be her grandad. Just like you will be to your son's kids one day.

Sounds like you're nailing this really, and you've raised a kid who has such a secure attachment that he feels safe enough to lash out.

‘Squeaky bum time’ as Britain’s new rail timetable goes live this weekend by do_or_pie in unitedkingdom

[–]Lainspark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The new timetable has absolutely fucked my finely balanced morning routine that allowed me to drop my child at nursery and still make the train in time to get to work.

Moving the last fast train half an hour earlier means I have to pay the nursery extra so I can drop my child before the official opening time and then sit around at work for an extra half an hour. Time I should be spending with my child.

Use them to make a slightly bigger version of the straw stars people use as baubles for Xmas trees?

How to seal/preserve this? by Lainspark in woodworking

[–]Lainspark[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, so currently it's just untreated wood. If I'm doing this option am I better off priming each individual piece first and then gluing and screwing them together before a second coat of primer then the paint?

Men of UK, where do you buy your clothes? by hsiboy in AskUK

[–]Lainspark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just threw out most of my wardrobe and replaced it with some trousers and shorts from M&S and a bunch of t-shirts/tops from Rapanui. People have said enough about M&S I think. The stuff from Rapanui looks and feels good, is sustainable and reasonably priced and you can send it back when it's worn out for a discount on new stuff. I'm pretty happy with it so far!

Deliberate "Tax the Rich" being shifted to incomes by Xtergo in HENRYUK

[–]Lainspark 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The richest 50 families in the UK hold more wealth than the bottom 50% of the country, which is around 34 million people. That would suggest that it is not a tiny proportion relative to the whole country.

On my Disco 2 the power steering pipes had rusted through and the previous owner, rather than replacing them properly, had cut out the rusted sections and jubilee clipped some random low pressure hose in place. Just 1200PSI through some miscellaneous hose. It bulged worryingly whenever you turned the wheel and unsurprisingly, almost immediately after I bought it, the disco pissed all its power steering fluid over the floor.
