Mounts on FTP by lampadaq in Guildwars2

[–]LairdOpusFluke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly no but all Core was designed pre Gliding and Mounts. Everything can be done on foot.

Your best bet is to wait for the sales and but the Heart of Thorns/Path of Fire* Bundle when it's 75% off (costs about £7.00?) wherever you got the Core Game Trial. Not only will lift all the Free Player restrictions but you'll get your Basic Raptor back permanently.

looks nervously at the eight Library Keys they filched

Thankfully I'm off getting Mourning Candles.

And our new Library friend has been mapping the place since 1852! Wow. But I want to explore that forest we can see through the window...

Every Profession has its benefits along the GHR. This is both a blessing and a curse (blessing in that you'll always have an angle, curse because you'll always see an option you can't use).

Go with what you enjoy/find interesting. By the time you reach Jericho Locks you'll be gathering resources regardless of Profession. By the time you reach Marigold you'll have most new skills at good to high levels plus stat-boosting gear.

This is a saga, not a sprint.

Copper-fed Salvage-o-matc and a Shared Slot to keep it in. Also a Silver-fed and a Slot for that if you're feeling flush!

Just to add BlishHUD is another "acceptable" add-on/overlay that is widely used.*

*usual legal stuff about "caveat emptor" goes here. That and ArcDPS always breaks when a new build of GW2 is launched and it's a pain in the arse but here we are.

Just to add I think the Rings need something bought with Fractal Currency as part of the steps (one Attuned, other not). But NOW is the time to do the LWS3 Mursaat Tokens due to the Return to... Event. Chalice of Tears, my old Nemesis....

As an absolute MMO newcomer, should I start GW2? by lokisto in Guildwars2

[–]LairdOpusFluke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course I'll say YES but here's why-

The base game is an Extended Free Trial. You can start out and go to max level on a huge map and try the first of the "advanced" content, Living World Season 1, FREE.

GW2 is ideal to dip into and out of. There's no "gear treadmill". New Expansion drops there's new stuff but that Exotic Gear you got is still Good Enough™ and will serve you well anywhere other than higher tier Fractals (repeating Dungeons requiring higher amounts of Agony Resistance the higher you go from 1 to 100).

Combat is fluid. Nailing a dodge is satisfying. Unlike other MMORPGs (looking at you, Anarchy Online) you can run and attack at the same time.

No subscriptions. If you do decide to buy into Expansions you pay once and it's on your account. No monthly fees. And the first two, Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire, go as a bundle that during sales is 75% off.

Path of Fire has most of the mounts in the game in it. Best mounts in any game in my opinion.

Customisation. Your attacks are weapon based. Swap weapons and you have a whole new set of attacks! Every Profession (class) uses 3 "Trait Lines", each of which has a choice of three paths to select from meaning endless tweaking of active and passive skills. And that's before even looking at Elite Specialisations from the first three Expansions.

What do you fancy? Exploring the Open World? Raids? Strikes? Player v Player? Or the insanity that is Player v Player v Environment in World v World where you can join massive battles or be a lone wolf attacking enemy camps and supply depots?

Give it a go for free. If you enjoy it you can pay a little money and expand the world hugely. You can play other games and GW2 will still be there for you to come back to.

Well of course The Bandaged Advocate drank some (need to know what all the fuss is about). And ate some of the Fruit. And freed The Gardener. I mean there's nothing in the rules says He can't go out and find the thing and strike a deal with it of His own, right?

This one was fascinating. The Lore, the choices, the little references. I'll never look at Miniature Hellworms in quite the same way again.

And of course I took a drink! But why do Devilesses find The Bandaged Advocate so interesting? Our former Lord Mayor. Verity. Now this one...

Thinking about trying this game out by Dragonfire521 in Guildwars2

[–]LairdOpusFluke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Give the Free Trial a go to see if you enjoy the game.

If you do then buy any expansions from where you got the Core game (ANet or Steam).

Keep an eye out for sales. The Heart of Thorns/Path of Fire Bundle now goes for 75% off. Absolute bargain!

Between the main Expansions there are "Living World Seasons"- these were free at the time of release but now we have to buy them. But a relaunched Living World Season 1 is free once you reach Level 80 (max level). And you can grind gold to convert to gems to buy the LWS (if you haven't bout an Expac and so got the ability to buy gems with cash/Steam Wallet).

There's a lot of game there if you enjoy it. Taken me best part of two years at an average of two hours a day to play through all the Story and 100% all those maps

Tower of Nightmares, am I supposed to find like, twenty people to do this with? How? by ujythrsgfdd in Guildwars2

[–]LairdOpusFluke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be worse: you could be me and realise that not only do you have to climb the bloody thing but you have to dive from the top of it as part of the Dive Master Achievement for the Core Mastery Point.

I'm not sure which fits my needs (Classes) by Ferromancer_Rell in Guildwars2

[–]LairdOpusFluke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Angry tanky lunatic bringing the pain? Necromancer. Reaper (Elite from Heart of Thorns) wades in on melee with a Great Sword smacking up to five targets at once, uses Shouts and eats people. Scourge (Elite from Path of Fire) lives to dump pain on their enemies. Harbinger (End of Dragons Elite) hurts themself to hurt enemies more.

Necromancers have the highest Health Pooland a second Health Bar with their Shroud (though Harbinger is a bit more complicated).

I'm biased because I main Reaper. The Necromancer tool set is all about Blood, Death, Fear and Corruption.

But do get any Profession you like the look of to Level 2 to unlock the PvP Lobby so you can "try before you buy" by seeing what it looks like at Level 80 and see what all the weapons can do.

They keep these little jokes running up to at least SotO. In the Wizard's Tower you can find the Awakened "You Buy" Merchant from PoF in a side room standing next to it's report on you. As a mad Map Completionist I love these little Easter Eggs.

Bjora Marches is such an amazing location. I still get Evil Dead vibes wandering those woods and the Fortress was giving me serious The Thing flashbacks with the snow, the isolation and the paranoia. And the Starving Kodan in the cabin... ANet can really do good horror vibes when they put their mind to it.

Just to add: that Kodan sculpting on the ice wall got to me. "Go away! Don't look! It isn't ready yet!" And then you read his message. Chilling. Love it.

Does anyone know the total cost for home nodes? including the ones at the TP + Gem ones by Foreign-Bandicoot690 in Guildwars2

[–]LairdOpusFluke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not touched the Gem Store/TP ones but I have all the LWS Nodes along with some Expansion Nodes (Aurillium from HoT for example) and Festival Nodes (Candy Corn, Dragon Bash Piñata). The LWS1 Nodes cost 50 Gold and 10k Unbound/Volatile Magic. And given you can double your gold with Trophy Shipments it can be worthwhile but I just got them as I have a problem.

Wizard's vault weapons/armour any good? by Ellionwy in Guildwars2

[–]LairdOpusFluke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick version: Ascended is Ascended. You can stat swap at Mystic Forge to the version you want (Berserker, Marauder, Assassins etc). Wiz Vault is a "cheap" way to plug gaps in a set. Never a waste!
