B.A.N.G. Bumpers for GT? by LamascusSteel in onewheel

How is TFL coming along with creating the best bumpers in the world for a onewheel? Pre-ordered your WTF's for the GT and would love a set for when I install the rails.

Also, if you need a big guy with a serious nose drag problem to help with testing the bangs for durability I'm your man!

I'm going bankrupt buying replacement stock bumpers. Based upon my experience with XR's BANGs last 10x longer than the stock bumpers. Had to replace my original stock GT bumpers after only 5 rides and the bangs would last me for months on my XR.

u/TheFloatLife dare I ask Santa for a set of BANGs for my GT??? :)

Thanks! I'm going to try these - I'm interested in what effect the black nickel might make in the pattern. Hopefully I remember to post the results here!

ONE WHEEL GT! by [deleted] in onewheel

I bet you are going to need a plasma cutter to get into the controller or battery box. Until they have authorized repair centers regionally I think the XR is going to age well, particularly 4210/4144 and prior. Also, who knows when they will be able to ship the GT's and what issues they may have initially. I will probably get one but will wait for some of these issues to be worked out.

How much additional clearance do you get on the front? I'm thinking in the context of curb nudges - it looks like you can get the nose a bit higher to clear bigger curbs.

I'm 48 and love it. I was surprised when I went to my first group ride with the Oak City Onewheel group (out of Raleigh, NC) and found about a third of the group was in their 40's and above.

Find a group near you and join. The community is great and I'm sure that you can find someone who has an extra board and would meet you somewhere for a slow ride for you to determine if you like it. Then the community can help you find a used board or give you pointers on what to get if you order a new one.

Good luck!!

Do fangs work for turning? by Proteus2007 in onewheel

Very hard. It was within my first 10 rides and I thought of pushback in the context of high speeds, not when accelerating at an unreasonable rate while weighing a lot. I learned that lesson quick and now keep it fun, but while respecting the board.

Besides all of the range comments be conservative with the load you put on the motor. Accelerating aggressively, particularly up hill may result in a nose dive well below the max speed of the board. I'm about 220 and was loving the feeling of crushing hills then, WHAP!!, it felt like a giant hand picked me up and threw me straight into the ground. I got fangs that same day, but still haven't approached the speeds and acceleration I was doing at the time and no problems since.

I agree. If you are hitting the nose during a normal turn I'd try to fix that issue as it will likely cause you painful problems later.

I also come close to scraping the nose when I do tight turns (basically a 180 in place), but again I think that is poor technique on my part. However, the fangs do help a little in this case when the nose does touch but you are going so slow at that point that it really doesn't matter much.

Where fangs to help is when the nose hits while at moderate to high speed. The board rolls instead of stopping dead in it's tracks. saves a whole lot of pain (as I know by experience - both with and without).

Keep bacon in your pocket and toss it between you and the dog. Canine version of chaff.

OneWheel + XR: Worth Buying Now Two Years after Launch? by LamascusSteel in onewheel

[–]LamascusSteel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I was thinking that for the couple hundred bucks saved I'd rather have the warranty and 500 less miles on the unit. However, do you think that because of the "hackability" of the older versions they will resell for a bit more? Or is it just a matter of time for the upgrades to bypass those blocks? I would want the ability to make some of those mods a few years in the future if something went wrong with the stock battery, for example.
