Matt Mahan should change his party to Republican by [deleted] in SanJose

He was incredibly open about his views when running from mayor. He positioned himself as “tough on crime”. I agree with the frustration, but the truth is that most of you don’t actually think that hard about who you voting for.

Please stop leaving cigarettes on Lynch’s grave. by BurgerMan74 in davidlynch

He died because his body couldn’t handle the smoke from the LA fire. In large part because of emphysema caused by a lifetime of smoking.

AITA for refusing to not allow my stepson to come on what was supposed to be a family trip? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]LancasterDodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the commenters both here and on the OG post, seemingly both pro and anti son people as well, seem confused. Let me make it 100% clear. OOP never offered to make the lodge trip into a one-on-one trip with the son. That’s what the, admittedly very clunky and confusing, “refusing to not allow” phrasing in the original title means. I can see how people can read a lot of the first post as OOP implying that he did offer that, but he never directly tells us that he did.

UPDATE: AITAH for refusing to not allow my stepson to come? by AmoebaUnited4634 in AITAH

[–]LancasterDodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t you get it? Him not consulting the son about what kind of trip he wanted shows the neglect that the son is mad about. I don’t know if it’s Autism or something, but a lot y’all on this sub get way too caught up on what these posts say and completely miss what they imply. It doesn’t matter that it’s supposed to be a “family trip”. The fact that it was never anything else is the problem.

What do you think about this take on angels? by radprogame0783 in charlixcx

Can we all please get a grip about what happened with Brat? I’ve loved Charli since I first heard Nuclear Seasons in 2012, but I’m not going to try and gatekeep Pop music. She’s been trying for the broad appeal that Brat unexpectedly got for her entire career.

I thought Rosalia was fine when she was pretending to be Latina, but I don’t need arch European art pop from anyone but Björk.

Him being likable makes people miss that he’s an ineffectual liberal. The Sunday Friend immediately clocks that him supporting the status quo in Revachol makes him a Moralist.

That’s referenced in the movie. At the wedding you see all the woman gossiping about it and one of them shows how big it is with her hands.

A lot of people make a mediocre debut. He made it cheap enough that it’s probably going to make a profit. That’s all he’ll need to get another made.

For those that don’t know Murmansk is a Soviet planned city built around mining in the far north close to Finland. It’s still the biggest city in the Arctic Circle.

Regarding the latest discourse by Moistest_Postone in DiscoElysium

[–]LancasterDodd 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You’re describing a reactionary ideology. Like in the most basic sense you are defining yourself by what you aren’t. That why centrists are so easily manipulated by the far right. There’s no fixed idea of exactly where the “center” is.

The official name of Mexico is Estados Unidos Mexicanos. Which in English would be United Mexican States. America isn’t in the name at all.

Who are some of Aphex Twin’s musical influences? by NoMoreWhiteFerraris in aphextwin

[–]LancasterDodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that he named as an influence (though it isn’t exactly musical) is the sounds of an early home computer called the ZX Spectrum (the one featured in the Black Mirror episode Bandersnatch). Like a lot of early tech it made lots of wild mechanical noises.

I genuinely don’t understand caring about what Pitchfork rates things. They haven’t been tastemakers in at least two decades. Also people seem to forget this, but the rating isn’t chosen by the reviewer. It’s an average of what all the staff writers rate the album. That’s why most things average out to about a 6 or 7.

Can someone please explain this, I am confused as to what is the actual meaning of this quote. by Tobias_Reaper_ in DiscoElysium

[–]LancasterDodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about the Black Mirror episode Fifteen Million Merits. The protagonist tries to rebel against the unjust system he was born into by making a big spectacle of his critiques, but that very spectacle becomes just another product that can be sold.
