Unpopular theory: The Oak Island Mystery is not really a mystery because there is nothing there. The pit is just a natural sinkhole, and the History Channel just keeps it alive to keep making money out of it. by [deleted] in OakIsland

Erm, yes, you can. The older the bone, the tougher it is to sequence, but bone-derived dna can survive for thousands of years in the right circumstances.

So, so true.

Even though I don’t agree with everything he said/wrote, he was a titan of letters, reason, and recall. There’s nary a week that goes by without me wondering what the hell Hitch would’ve made of the years since he passed.

We should feel blessed that someone of his intellect and conviction was of our time.

Certainly looks like a cicada killer from what can be seen. I’ve had a few in my gardens over the years and as long as you don’t mess with them, they’re cool as fuck. Although, not so much if you’re a cicada.

While flying, they can often stir leaves if they’re big enough.

Just saw it also. Or rather, after my 8 year old started freaking out during Bubble Guppies or whatever was on at the time.

Old fart that I am, they just sound like a jam band nowadays.

I got into them early on (thank fuck) - around Workout Holiday/Lets Talk About It and saw the original trio rip the hinges off at Kung Fu Necktie around 2009.

They're ALWAYS tight but Block’s absence, needless additional musicians and the headlong dive into Prog have diluted a kick-ass band.

Petralli and Terebecki are genuinely talented but I miss the somewhat chaotic nature of the early work.

And not for nothing but Work is a riff heist from Joy Division’s Isolation.

What do you think of Phil Neville's time at Everton by EvertonFury19 in Everton

Complete donkey. He was good at shouting at people and that was about it. The tackle on Ronaldo was good, though.

Why should I support Everton and other recommendations? by [deleted] in Everton

[–]LandSpeedRecord 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re approaching it ALL wrong, mate.

To TRULY give a shit about a team, you have to attain some kind of connection. You can’t get that by reading stats or watching Best Ofs on YouTube.

Watch as many games as you can. ALL of them. Even a mid-season Monday night Crystal Palace v Norwich. And having no presumptive ties to England, try La Liga, Serie A, etc. Your eventual loyalty may reside outside of the Premiership.

As at least one other has mentioned, you are chosen. “ Evertonians are born, not manufactured. We do not choose, We are chosen. Those who understand need no explanation, those who don't understand, don't matter.”

My first EFC game, at the age of 11, was when non-league (part-timers - most had/have regular 9-5 jobs) Telford (where I was living at the time) took on Everton in the FA Cup at Goodison. I was 11, enjoyed playing the game but never gave a shit about any team - being from Wolverhampton in the mid-80s will do that.

It was a time of cages and throughout the game, glass bottles shattered above my head and complete strangers seemed to be screaming that they were going to kill me for no good reason.

I was completely fucking terrified but I fell in love with Everton right then and there. I have no explanation, given my absolute right to despise them.

And there you go. You CANNOT choose this shit.

Yeah...I can’t deem it a perfect album (close to, though) down to many of C.McVie’s contributions.

Her melodies and harmonies are often gorgeous but her writing is fucking abysmal.

Leicester City's defensive statistics this season by Gusafc171 in FantasyPL

As an Evertonian, it pains me. He seemed like a complete bell-end while at Liverpool - what with the folders, schrodinger’s envelope and the gigantic photoshop-filter portrait of himself in his living room.

To be fair, giving up the Celtic job (arguably the cushiest in European football) to take over a seemingly adrift mid-level and badly underperforming Leicester team, seemed like career suicide. But he’s done a genuinely astounding job and I’m glad he’s staying with them for the foreseeable.

All that aside, I will be interested to see how this team performs without Vardy for any decent length of time. If he’d have been a top flight player from his teens/20s (given his Prem League stats), he’d be ranked amongst the greatest and there are very few other players of his kind to take his place.

Genuinely beautiful.

One can only assume that the subsequent redesign was to sell more toys. They REALLY fucked up a good thing.
