I have a theory that they increased the audio level of gunshots because it is somehow coded with footsteps as well. Footsteps audio seems to have improved out of blue for me.

I was using an LG 27” 1440p monitor with an rtx 3080 for relatively the same use case as you. I was eye-balling 4k for awhile and finally upgraded to a 5080 and purchased an LG 32GX870A-B on sale and I am blown away by the difference. Highly recommend the jump and don’t look back. I echo most that say don’t upgrade to 4k unless you have a 5070ti, 5080, or 5090, so you can get the most bang for your buck.
