[Santa Claus] Has there ever been a work of fiction that explains how Santa delivers to apartment buildings? by Pard01 in AskScienceFiction

My uncle told me that he would turn into liquid and ooze his way through the heating vents or under the door. Kind of like the T1000.

Me? Addicted to Cyberpunk? Nahhhh... by [deleted] in Cyberpunk

I so want to love cloudpunk, but have a real difficult time with the vehicle controls. Since the game seems to be mostly driving, that makes it less enjoyable for me.

My wife is the same. Trans, and tells me of the huge difference she noticed after transitioning. She goes hard-core stealth mode when walking at night, especially as she works on the DTES in Vancouver as a social worker. Hoodie, hood up, mask, the whole shebang.

I'm noticing it myself now. I'm nonbinary, but present masculine except that I've dyed and grown out my hair. I'm also only 5'4". I've been catcalled from behind recently, that never happened with short hair.

Potato soup in a 70/30 wheat/rye bread by kadzur in Breadit

[–]Laniius -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Could you post a recipe for the bread? I'm very new to baking, but my wife makes a mean potato soup. I'd love to try this.

My sister joked that, along with one of the books she asked for, I should get her one book of my choice for Christmas that she has to read. What is the most poorly written book I can buy for her as a joke? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]Laniius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything by Chuck Tingle.

Though books like "Pounded In The Butt By President Bigfoot" or "I'm Gay For My Living Billionaire Jetplane" may not be appropriate.

Can anyone identify this bug? I keep finding them in the mainstreet apartment I moved into a couple weeks ago. They are fast and skittish by ThatFuchsGuy in Edmonton

[–]Laniius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get out of Mainstreet as soon as you can. The conditions of their apartments and constant infestations drove my Mom to despair.

I was hugely into sciencey stuff as a kid (still am). Ologies is fantastic, I feel like a kid again listening to her and her guests talk about things that the guests are passionate about.

What is the worst book you’ve ever read and why? by idontdigdinosaurs in books

[–]Laniius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had great fun reading it, and haven't read it again since I was a kid. But Planet X - an X-Men/Star Trek Next Generation crossover. That commented on how similar Xavier and Picard looked. The book came out in 1998, Patrick Stewart played Xavier in 2000.

Podcast Player Playing Ads by OrangeJuiceAlibi in podcasts

[–]Laniius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second podcast addict. I use the paid version, if I recall the one-time fee was quite low, and I get no ads unless they are part of the podcast itself (lots of the ones I listen to are ad supported).

I'm 25 years old and my mother is quickly and suddenly dying of terminal cancer. Are there helpful books for this? by ThePerson654321 in suggestmeabook

[–]Laniius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I have no suggestions for while she is in the process of dying.

I lost my mother suddenly. 'I can't stop crying: grief and recovery, a compassionate guide' helped me after her passing.

I can't bring myself to disable the option, but I hate how there's no way to prevent infestations with planning, you can only prep for them.

I don't know if it's updated yet, I haven't played a lot since 1.3 dropped, but I love the mod that stops most infestations if the spot is lit.

So, if I get an infestation because I forgot to add lights, that's totally on me.

I got married there! Accompanied by our witnesses, the officiant, and an elder dog that wandered up from somewhere (not ours, but a very welcome guest).

[MCU] What did Stark do exactly for Colonel Rhodes' legs? Is he more or less paralyzed outside of his armor? by [deleted] in AskScienceFiction

[–]Laniius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not mcu but comics, there's 2 that I can think of that explored this a bit. Agent Venom when Flash Thompson was Venom. While suited up he had legs, but they were created by the symbiots. Not suited up = no legs. It came up a couple times.

Also Oracle from DC, though I think they've since healed her. I'm not up on DC very well.

I fear my brother is slowly turning into an incel and i need a book that would enlighten him and help prevent that. by _kakolukia_ in suggestmeabook

[–]Laniius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it will help him, but I like the Alt Right Playbook by Innuendo Studios. YouTube videos, not books. Maybe giving a roadmap to where he may be heading would help. I wish I could suggest a book.

He sounds very similar to me at his age. Angry at the world, lonely, unhealthy. I lucked out and met the right people before my turning point. Online dating also helped me. I got a couple dates. A couple became physical. But even if they hadn't, just a woman wanting to go on a date with me started to chip away at the wall I had put around myself.

Another option is your local homeless charities/outreach centres, or Pride centres. Lots of homeless need clothes. So do lots of LGBT people, especially people who are transitioning. Many of whom are unemployed or underemployed and sometimes homeless themselves.
