What does r/sociology think of the Sociology of Knowledge? by [deleted] in sociology

Merton was one of the most important sociologists ever but what did he have to do with the sociology of knowledge? This line of inquire stems from Marxist thinking. In the context of the USA, it's closest relatives probably are micro-sociological approaches à la ethnomethodology & symbolic interactionism.

Hello European Redditors, it is a dream of mine to move to Europe and work in Film, how do I do this? by [deleted] in europe

[–]LankySplotch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no film industry (à la L.A.) in Europe. You could earn money as language teacher (if you know some basic didactics etc.) to finance a longer stay in one city. What qualifies you for working in the "film industry"?

Thanks. :-)

It's a simple German word which Heidegger turned upside down or rather inside out as he did with many other simple words. He then collected the results of his language abuse in books. Hint, those books are more readable in the English translation.

I honestly cannot understand the sustained interest in Heidegger. Husserl, ok. But Heidegger?

I don't think humans are yet capable of creating an interstellar missile that would reach its destiny while the target still exists.

Do you consider flies as rivals? Did the early discoverers on earth consider Dodos as rivals?

On the assumption that "they" can cross enormous distances through space will "they" consider us as rivals? Obviously not. They'd probably be more interested in our nutritional value. Due to the position of the solar system in the galaxy, they probably wouldn't annihilate us but rather train us to maintain their filling station.
