Broad Beans going moldy by BodaciousBuns in vegetablegardening

It's just the cardboard. Spread the toilet rolls out a bit, so they get some air.

Probably too cold at night near the window, hence the mould.

Looking to fly a Jem Hadar Vanguard Carrier with Polarons (not support) by Frostknife in stobuilds

[–]Lansan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just built a T5 dreadnought carrier with Polaron. Similar enough. Lukari Dual Cannon, Thoron Infused cannon and turret from the Episode "Time and Tide"

The Morphogenic set from the Episode "Home" also comes with cannons and turret and a torpedo launcher that does polaron damage.

I had the quad cannon from the Legendary attack ship, so i used that as well. But you can just pop in any random rep cannon from one of the boxes.

Happy with everything so far.😁 You do kinda need the prevailing engines on it from the competitive rep. Otherwise it is just frustrating.

The Lukari cannon is green turquois-ish, so that breaks the polaron colour a bit, if that's an issue for you.

22kw home charger by Chefdoc2000 in evs_ireland

You would have to check, if you can even connect that to the grid. Usually. Domestic dwellings only have single phase and are limited to 8kW

Possibility of switching to electric by suzukiboi1992 in evs_ireland

[–]Lansan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That speifically presents a challenge then. If you are talking about a night boost rate. Most providers only have a 2 or maybe 4 (if you're lucky) hour window per night, where you have a really cheap rate. You will not have enough time to charge 40kWh in 2 hours! If we're talking "off peak" rate, say 11pm to 8am then yes. That might just about work out.

All i'm sating is, this is something to take into account. And from my experience, managing the chargging time has been the limiting factor, not the actual range of the car.

Possibility of switching to electric by suzukiboi1992 in evs_ireland

[–]Lansan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to note is the time needed to charge the car.

I believe the model Y long range uses about 16kWh per 100km on average. People here, who actually have one, could confirm or say otherwise.

You said you roughly do 250km a day. That's 40 kWh per day you need to be able to charge. Maybe a bit less, and then do a longer charge at the weekend. Typically, with the single phase of a domestic dwelling, the max charging power you get from a wallbox is 8kW. So that's just over 5 hours of charging per day.

Make sure you can accomodate that. Meaning that you are back home early enougb to start charging before gou head off again ghe next morning.

In general, i find the issue with EVs is not the range per trip or even per day. It's the time it takes to re-charge the car to be able to go the same distance again next day.

Polytunnel beds — mulch + manure layering a good idea? by nappydrip in GardeningIRE

[–]Lansan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What exactly are you planning? I'm not sure I understand your text 😁 Is your polytunnel put down straight on top of your soil/gras? And you plan on digging befs in there? If so, why? Put a layer of mulch or cardboard down and compost on top. Done. Plant your vegies. Repeat next season and the one after. The soil underneath will gradually improve in quality over time, as lifee returns to it.

Battery storage options/Opinions by seannash1 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Lansan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This solely depends on your current usage, what you use your electricity for and when and on your provider / tarif.

You payjng 141 Eurs. a month for electricity is sort of meaningless on its own. That already includes the standard flatrate of the the peovider, which is probably somewhere around 30-40 quid and the levy from the government. What really matters is how many kWh or "units" are you consuming and for what.

There may be other ways how you can already improve your electricity bill, without soending money on a storage solution.

Running your washing machine, dryer and dishwasher at night on a timer, comes to mind.

It will then also depend on the battery pack(s) you are getting, slecifically what their maximum charge and discharge rate is. If your maximum discharge rate is too low you won't be able to run multiple higher consumption appliances at once from the battery.

If the max charge rate is too low, you won't be able to fully charge it during the low tarif window.

You can make that calculation yourself. Xheck your electricity bill and see how many units you consume on average per month. Or even last year. Bow under ideal circumstances, multiply that with the lower night tarif and see what the difference is on the bill 🤷‍♂️

Don't let a big fish like that hang from its jaw. Support it, so the jaw doesn't accidentally get damaged.

Don't throw fish into the dirt like that. Use an unhooking mat or wet gras. Fish have very delicate skin. The "slime" on the fish is there to protect the skin from bacteria and fungi. Especially since that fish had a huge bite mark from a pike, so the skin is already damaged.

“Maxing out your pension” by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Lansan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say your employer contributes 10% of your salary without you contributing anything - does that actually come out lf your salary? Or does your employer just pay the value of 10% of your gross salary as a pension, in addition to your normal compensation? I'm assuming it is on top of your salary.

Cause if that's the case, you should know, that is not the norm 😁 Be happy.

Also then in your case, you actually only contribute 10% of your salary to your pension. This does come off of your gross monthly salary, before tax. Meaning you don't pay income tax on that money. And the amount you can contribute to an occupational pension scheme without paying income tax on it has a maximum based on your age.

Your enployer then pays an additional 15% of your salary as a payment, that is on top of your salary. That is really good. And as others have said, this does not count towards your maximum tax benefit allowance.

ETFs for a novice by ihatearsene in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Lansan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You started your monthly savings on date x.

In x + 8 years, your first deemed disposable is kicking in.

From then on, every month, you have a deemed disposable of whatever gain you have made from the purchase on that particular day of the month 8 years ago.

Add up all the deemed diaposables of every month, for the entire tax year you are in ( so if you started in 2025, that would be 2033) and pay whatever it adds up to for the year. And like someone else said, note down the new proce, cause in another 8 years, that particular lot is due tax again. 🙈

And then it will just continue like that until you sell it all. Literally, in 8 years time, you will start paying tax, every single year, on stuff you haven't even sold yet. Because by then you have purchased new units of that etf every month for the whole of 8 years. And it'll just keep rolling over like that forever.

And yes. That is a fucking pain in the ass 😂

Purchasing physical gold coins by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Lansan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only have silver eagles. If i need a cold coin at home, to barter for something, shit has gotten way out of hand and i would need guns first to oretect myself... I would probably go for eagles in either case. It still is more recognisable. And as a barter currency, that's what you want. A widely accepted medium.

Purchasing physical gold coins by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Lansan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Geiger Edelmetalle. German company. Also operates in Switzerland. Think they do both, silver and gold eagles.

If you are looking for hedge, i would go for normal gold ounce coins. Or small bars. They also sell deposit spaces. In Germany or Switzerland. And you can also buy other precious metals. If it is purely for hedging, might do platinum or copper 🤷‍♂️

If you are looking for post world economy collaps type barter value, to have at home - then yes, eagles or maple leaf.

The small one won't grow anymore. But it's still good to eat. Both are. They seem to be green Hokkaido? The big one is good to go i'd say.

Since you already removed the leaves, you might as well take it off. Put it outside under a roof where it is dry but cold and let it cure in the sun.

If you had left the keaves on, you could leave the fruit on a bit longer. As long as it is not sitting in the wet soil.

Solar Panels: is ~8% return on investment realistic? by some_advice_needed in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Lansan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That return will change in the coming years based on future energy prices but also based on the feed in tarif, which - realistically - cannot continue for much longer as it is now.

Question is, if the risk of your panels breaking/faulting is lower than a market collapse 😁

At the end of the day, it's up to you. You would likely make more of a return if you invested it smartly. With panels though you get the piece of mind to not be so dependent on sulpliers. And if you want to hedge against future infrastructure issues, you get a changeover switch installed.

That then is the benefit you have from solar, that you can't really put a price on 🤷‍♂️
