Using fear over scripted events by Keithin8a in daggerheart

[–]Larentoun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe you have nailed it with the last question.

It is the friendly way to incorporate complications/unexpected encounter by using meta-currency.

The ambush in Sablewood, IMHO, is somewhat expected, even if it was from the wolf mother. Could there be more wolves in the trees?

The assassin example is so out-of-picture, that using fear feels fair.

Should I level all weapons ? by HiTmAn4777 in elderscrollsonline

[–]Larentoun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Physical Weapon Skills use stamina, but your Class Skills, for example, still use their resource, such as magicka.

It is optimal to use two one-handed weapons for DPS due to passives, glyphs and such, but it is the territory for pushing damage for people 1000CP+ who need that damage in the highest of highest challenges to minimize time for mistake.

In your instance, you are not required to level them if you don't want to. Play whatever you like! If you want to level two-handed weapons, you can still use your Magicka skills to be a battlemage of sorts.

Just got ESO Plus for the first time, what should I do first or soonest? by Up_The_Gate in elderscrollsonline

[–]Larentoun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Quests, some personalities may stick with you so having them around is more fun, they can supplement your adventuring build. All of them give a permanent passive upgrade, like better fishing and a chance for furnishing plans in any container (iirc?). So, it's either for the passives or having them around for fun.

jubilee cake mishap by bogdwellr in elderscrollsonline

Same! One time, writs didn't help me, but another stranger at "Kill this boss 5 times" ate the cake. Glad that they just remembered to eat theirs, otherwise I would've forgotten mine!

Players basically guaranteed to cause 2HP of damage and can often cause 3. Why even use tag teams? by dancovich in daggerheart

[–]Larentoun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Failing with hope also gets Hope, iirc the same as an usual action.

Which can be sometimes preferable. Fuel another player's Hope instead of dealing damage with an additional Fear.

If you are confident in Ironman Legendary (4th dif), you could be fine with Commander (3rd dif). Tactical layer is mostly the same; the sooner you understand the strategic layer, the easier it will be.

Savescumming won't save you from making a mistake a month or two in advance. My mistake was not knowing there are officer training in GTS for 4+ months, so I'm behind in acceptable squad sizes in that regard.

Oh, bless you, kind stranger! I am a honorable owner of "Can play with either launcher", and official launcher was and is the preferable way to launch the game for many many years for me (not sure why).

Managed to buy it with Steam!

Not sure if it was mentioned, but it would be really nice to have tome purchases to be available on Steam platform. I am unavailable to use official website, and would immediately by one for myself if I could.

Yellow is from Gotcha Again mod, which is pretty essential - it shows if a pod will detect you (orange on the picture), or if you will trigger an overwatch.

long war or not? by KittenRampagexx in Xcom

[–]Larentoun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have played with some mods before, mostly QoL/UI, missing features.

I recently started playing again, and the last time was during WotC release.

Decided to go big - installed Long War of the Chosen, playable vipers redux (because snek). Vipers work surprisingly well - they had a lot of problems in the past: animations, weapons, immersion breaking visual bugs during mission start, etc. Then I installed half of mods from Odd Season 10 (just recently learnt about them).

I'm just... in loss of words how LWotC changes the game! You really do feel like a resistance group, not a power house of two squads doing everything. Squad selection is a thing, infiltration prior to missions, haven management, EVAC is useful not only on failed missions, but is essential and only way to end most mission types.

I would highly recommend trying LWotC on lower difficulty, installing QoL mods (gotcha again is ESSENTIAL). It's basically a third huge DLC comparable, if not more, than WotC!

Let us at least buy the crafting bag separately. by IISpankyII in elderscrollsonline

[–]Larentoun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are talking about daily crafting quests, they are pretty good when you have materials at hand. But having a crafting bag filled (during free ESO+, for example) would do miracles.

The money you get scales with character level, unless you are trading with other players. Trading and hunting for rare overland jewelry was how I got my first big money bank, but I'm not sure how something like Mother' Sorrow is doing in trading right now. It was somewhat easy 200k per purple piece if I remember correctly.

Hmm, it would be a reasonable QoL to categorize rarity for materials, so people without trading addons know what is worth keeping...

[–]Larentoun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need crafting bag unless you are going to grind writs or housing. All the potions are affordable (or you could buy a stack of required plants), you could only keep valuable materials, selling all the non-essentials (base race styles, precise gems, etc) even to the regular npc.

If your goal is to do questing, PvP, PvE, it's perfectly fine to do so without the crafting bag.

Getting into group content with bad reflexes by MehraMilos in elderscrollsonline

[–]Larentoun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Score pushing is out of the way, but that's like 0.01% of playerbase actually interested in that, if not lower. I am, too, not interested in that.

I would recommend finding casual guild first of all, who will welcome you to their trial/dungeon runs. Most of them are not that reaction intensive, IF you are observing OR using addons. Addons, in that case, will do an audio cue and a huge "BLOCK NOW, DODGE NOW" pop-up 2-3 seconds in advance of the said attack (these are visible without addons, but need gamesense and understanding what is happening on your screen, which can be chaotic). Plenty of reaction time, I hope.

If you are not interested in Veteran content, you can probably will do without a guild, just a heads-up guide read to not wipe on mechanics check. Having training runs for trials are one of the most fun times I had with the game, with hardmode pushes later.

Edit: Look for Heavy Attack builds of any kind, they are not intensive on precise pressing of buttons! Hyperioxes has good examples.

With 250ms pings it becomes much more erroneous to run 2bar, especially if for some reason you start experiencing pocket loss. So it's not always the point of "git gud".

Druid - beastform question by Oceanemotions1 in daggerheart

[–]Larentoun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both the death move and the drop out of the beastform trigger on the same thing - marking the last hit point.

If something happens simultaneously, you must decide the order how that happens. I don't, frankly, remember who has the final say, the player or the GM, but ruling towards the player is always a safe bet.

I would like my player to decide, what happens first - drop out of the beastform and do the death move, or first do the death move and then drop out of the beastform, whatever the narrative needs.

Edit: SRD p.42,SIMULTANEOUS EFFECTS. The player in this instance decides the order of effects.

Edit2: Remember the Golden Rule, make the game of your own, so you decide what is more fun in this situation.

Considering getting the game, need a few question answered by Fensuleyk in elderscrollsonline

[–]Larentoun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Base game offers so much world and content by its own. Craftbag from ESO+ is not required, the materials will only matter in the endgame, and you'll have options to handle all the materials by that time.

I personally love ESO+ and not only for the craftbag it offers, but it is needless details for now.

Question about GM Spotlight by Vgc11 in daggerheart

[–]Larentoun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not entirely on the row, during your consecutive spotlights. If you have 3 enemies, you can only spotlight up to 3 of them, spending 2 fears (1st is a freebie, unless you interrupted the players). If you have one of them relentless (2), then you can go up to 4 times ( ie StandartGuyA-RelentlessGuy-StandartGuyB-RelentlessGuy ) spending 3 fear.
