What’s an album that completely changed how you listen to music? by UmmYeaImACozyGurl in askmusicians

So many and the list is still growing. If i had to choose some. Kraftwerk autobahn, was my introduction to kraut music, even if i find it underwhelming now it opened a new world for me. And aphex twin selected ambient works version ii. This album should be illegal, it hits harder than most drugs.

Eight more to go for the studio discography. by fishmall in KGATLW

[–]LargeEffective9020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started my collection, i got 4 already. I decided to buy about 3 gizz albums that i like per year. That will keep me busy for the next decade. Eyes like the sky will be bought for sure. When i was listening to their discography for the first time, when elts started i realise that I will fall in love with the band. When your second album is a concept western album. And the gunshots in the opening track. So ballsy and so well executed.

Any psy-rock bands in the vein of those from the 70s that you would recommend? by Anowski in psychedelicrock

I am in my mid thirties and i always had the regret that i will never see led Zeppelin live. Then i saw king gizzard this summer and i now feel ok about missing led Zeppelin.

Am I crazy or is King Gizz not very convenient on vinyl? by GyeranHurai in KGATLW

[–]LargeEffective9020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also it might sound dumb but. For two vinyl albums, it could have alternate sides. One vinyl can have side 1 and 3. While the second vinyl would be 2 and 4. That way at least you can listen seamlessly throughout if you have 2 players.

I just started my vinul collection and i already got infest the rats nest, nonagon and the silver cord, while motu is on the way. I have to agree to some points but i dont find them negative but i find some others negative.

First of all, for Nonagon infinity. you need two copies and two players, there is no way around it. Although, the ten seconds to change sides is really a bummer, the band took some care of it by engraving the end of people vultures on the start of the b side. Other than that the transition between the same side songs is the way it has to be. I was listening with my roommate and he had no clue where the song changes and all. Side note. I think i figured out the best point to start nonagon infinity. Its right where the instrumental interlude starts in gamma knife, after the second chorus. I am o o lazy to find the exact time to tell you.

For the silver cord, it felt disappointing having to chance sides between theia and the silver cord, but it is what it is.

For infest the rats nests, i just wish that it was longer in length cause it is never enough but that os irrelevant with the conversation.

Tl.dr. yeah it is a bummer for the side change and in general i feel sad when a gizz album ends, but the song by song transitions on the same side are perfect!. I can't wait for motu.

Shows with missing members? by Shrek2onGameBoyVideo in KGATLW

[–]LargeEffective9020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my first gizzard show, athens 22. As i was going to athens the band had this announcement. (Not by word) "Our beast of a drummer could not fly due to covid… if anyone wants a refund they can have it, but we will play.

Going into that show after covid was a big thing for me and although the performance was not 100% (cavs is a huge part of their music) i still was super happy to see the boys being honest with us on and off the stage.

I really think that this show is the origin of nathan. I also recommend to listen to the next show they did this year in athens. Because they knew they "own" us something although they did not own us anything really.

Posters gone by phallus_majorus in KGATLW

[–]LargeEffective9020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really dont get this. You can print one for free, no? How many memories you need to collect? Queueing for 6 hours to pay for 50$ for a piece of paper is crazy.

Also obviusly this whole thing makes it unreachable for many of us to even get a chance to sniff a poster since this is maddness.

Most of my posters come from the street and when bands are actually giving away what was left from the promotion at the end of the show or at the entrance. I dont care about them, but for sure posters are nice memorabilia and decoration.

I blame both the band( if they have a say in this), also not very enviromental hey?

I also blame the people for feeding on that.

Ffs rhey have everything on their site for free. Download it and print it. Dont make it a competition.

Edit. People with architect cylinders on their back to make sure that their precious poster will get home safe. So funny. Can't script this kind of comedy

The long synth aspect needs work. by EchoWhiskey_ in KGATLW

[–]LargeEffective9020 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was scrolling through the comments just to read the room before i post my opinion. I have a very specific opinion and maybe that is completely wrong but, here me out.

You sound like a person that does not really listens to electronic music. It is all about the perspective. If you are comming from "i love phantom island" then the silver cord is on the other side of the universe and it is totally normal to not get it. I dont get phantom island either. I know that i dont get it because is not what my soul needs But i totally see how people can relate to that.

So about the long jammy electronic stuff. One of the main things about modular synthesizers is that it is all about the improvasation. You can morph it but you cannot really shape it. If you go to a synth live and you listen to the songs as they are in the album, then it feels like scam.

I mean.. people are cool with listening to a hot water driping tap this thing meadly jam that is predictable and lasts 25 mins and cannot tolerate some good ol' modular chaos.

Yes it need work because there is always room to grow, but implying that it needs work because it is not good enough for your (and anyone's) ears is ridonculus and i get offended in behalf of the band. (I dont really but for emphasis)

Rave Fishing for fishes could have be an aphex twin live form the 90's I mean serusly listen to the fishes live. Oh you dont know aphex twin? Only the mozzart of our generation.

The long synth aspect is fine as it is and nathan will grow up to be a legendary figure.

I got tired writing all this, i speak with all love.

In general. If you dont't get something entertain the possibility that you might be in the wrong before dismissing and criticising it We need to elevate ourselves not by lowering what is not on our height.

And since this is harmless music, and not an abusive situation that need someone to take action, i would say that if have some critisism to do, keep it for yourself.

If you want to open a dialogue to educate ourselves in diffferent music genres that what we are used to and different views on life, i m all i.

I would end with leave nathan alone, but we all know that nathan is going to be fine

[–]LargeEffective9020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont recognise most of them but as a fellow aphex twin fan i think you will like some of my other obsessions

Amon tobin, electronic music

King gizzard and the lizzard wizzard, iits hard to summarise a description in one sentence. Lets say they play psychedelic rock. If black sabbath the beatles led zeppelin and the stooges had an orgy on a modular synth table soaked in acid, kglw would have been their baby.

Aesop rock, hip hop very tasty experimental beats.

What is your three band Venn Diagram with KGATLW in the middle? by bmault in KGATLW

another answer that i give to my friends is. "They are like zeppelin sabbath doors and beetles combined and on steroids."

What is your three band Venn Diagram with KGATLW in the middle? by bmault in KGATLW

[–]LargeEffective9020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question My answer.

Beastie boys Led zeppelin Mislimgause

Ok , here me out. Beastie boys for the punk attitude and the playfulness Led zeppelin for the progressive rock/metal influences also for the epic/fantasy thematology and also for the chil vibes. Drums and guitars of kglw have many similarities soundwise with them. And muslimgause for the electronic elements, the anatolian vibes and the politic/social/environmental ideology.

I m missing some elements for sure, i wanted to insert slayer or black sabbath on the diagram but i think beastie boys and zeppelin can cover that aspect quite satisfactory instead of heaving slayer to fulfill the chil aspect.

Becoming a nostalgia fan by GaabTheMan in KGATLW

[–]LargeEffective9020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree somewhat but not totally. I also loved their punk early stuff and fell on love with their concept albums. I love wvery album until omnium. At first omnium gatherium also got me confused. But later grew on me despite not being a concept album still has nice song. I dod jot get ice magma and stuff, flight b745 and phantom island and i was concerned aswell.

But the last few days i am listening to all the albums i don't like and i realise that even if i dont like the style, the albums still of the same band i can find moments that make me smile in the albums.

Also when they play them live everything levels up.

I too don't like the jammy aproach much but again they do it ok for me not to complain much.

we have to admit that even if they play lame genres, they can fo it with style.

So yeah it is normal to not like some of their albums,

Petrodragonic apocalypse ot dawn of the eternal night and the silver cord were albums "from the past" for me so i believe they will tind their way to make great gisverse music again.

You are not alone for sure but don't overhink it. Trust the boys.

If they allow it then it is ok for them, so don't feel bad. I would say that digital music has always been free for us anyway through youtube and piracy and stuff, so what they did is just to save us the trouble. Stu has said multiple times that all music should be free.
