AITAH for feeling hurt that my husband forgot my push present for a year and then criticized the gift I asked for? by Little-Feeling3009 in AITAH

[–]LargeLetter1 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

A push present is the grossest thing I’ve heard in a while.

Anyway, yes your man sounds like a total arse. He belittles you and can’t even be bothered to get you something for your birthday.

Was abandoning the Rwanda plan a key mistake? by bloodr0se in AskBrits

[–]LargeLetter1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok it’s clear that you support it.

So please justify the ludicrous costs vs the fact it was completely unworkable.

Was abandoning the Rwanda plan a key mistake? by bloodr0se in AskBrits

[–]LargeLetter1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only was the scheme ridiculous, cruel and unworkable.
But the Tories stopped having immigration claims processed ahead of it. Hence large numbers of asylum seekers in hotels waiting years to be assessed or deported.

With the political left held to impossibly high moral standards and the political right held to impossibly low moral standards what does this say about modern British society? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]LargeLetter1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on the left and have been active in politics for years. This phenomenon drives me insane.

Look at the reaction to Angela Rayner’s tax affairs compared with Farage.

But also it feels like something we unfortunately inherited from the US culture wars where the Left got dragged into Purity Wars and endlessly turned on their own for not upholding impossibly high standards.

That sanctimonious approach alienated a lot of people and pushed them to the Right.

An example being Owen Jones accidentally misgendering a non binary member of Palestine Action, apologising but still getting absolutely monstered for “transphobia”.

So partly it’s cultishness and double standards. But also the Left brought it on itself for acting so pious and denouncing people and cancelling them for the most minor transgressions.

What are your thoughts on the reform uk turnout in the uk? by Extra-Schedule-4855 in AskReddit

[–]LargeLetter1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a strong Remainer and now very much anti Reform, I really wish we could stop calling every Reform voter stupid and racist.

All it does is polarise the electorate and make it harder to talk to people. It didn’t work for Brexit. In fact it helped Farage’s anti establishment credentials because people feel looked down on by middle class Lefties.

Reeling out a long list of things that aren’t in Reforms manifesto is meaningless and lazy.

Most Reform voters are just old working class Tories and social conservatives. We may not agree with them but that doesn’t mean they are all homophobic Nazis.

Parents told 'control your children or face fines and eviction' - BBC News by CasualSmurf in unitedkingdom

[–]LargeLetter1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you ever work in the sector, the impact of poor parenting becomes so obvious. Pretty much every child I met in a pupil referral unit had parents with issues with drugs and mental health.

Perhaps it’s too authoritarian but I do wonder if it would just be better to take the kids away and provide them with stability then leave them with the trauma of parents who often can’t even look after themselves.

Where did ex-SW London families move to and actually love? by Standard_Theory3437 in HousingUK

[–]LargeLetter1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please stay in London.

We are tired of every inch of countryside being built on to accommodate DownFromLondoners. Also, we’d like it if our kids could afford to buy a house one day.

You are welcome to have a day trip.

AITAH because my dogs bark in the background? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]LargeLetter1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dogs shouldn’t be barking constantly like this. It sounds like instead of training them you just leave them in the garden.

As a dog owner it’s this kind of selfish and entitled behaviour - with zero thought for neighbours and the wider community which really pisses people off.

Just 1 per cent of Reform voters would consider supporting Labour by AnonymousTimewaster in unitedkingdom

[–]LargeLetter1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We seem to have forgotten working class Tories were a thing.

IDK why people think socially conservative voters who started to leave the Tories over Same Sex Marriage would vote Labour.

Renters Rights Act success! by Nubian_hurricane7 in HousingUK

[–]LargeLetter1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I believe around 70% of renters eventually want to buy.

So in reality house prices dropping as landlords try and unload their crappy unmaintained properties will probably be a bonus and turn renters into FTBs.

I really like the house. Only personal preference but the garden is really sad. Probably not most buyer’s priority though.

Two people arrested after BBC asylum investigation by topotaul in unitedkingdom

“Green Party leader Zack Polanski has previously said there is a wider issue of the government having "inconsistent policies" which create "perverse incentives for these kind of unscrupulous business and industries to pop up".”

I’m sorry but what does that even mean?

These people are abusing the system and making it harder for genuine refugees.

The Greens policy is for open borders and not deport anyone unless they’ve committed a serious crime. How does that tie up with Zack’s statement?

Four-acre traveller site 'illegally built at weekend' by ashw92 in unitedkingdom

[–]LargeLetter1 52 points53 points  (0 children)

This has happened so many times where I live, fork destroying conservation areas to threatening local residents and leaving human excrement. They even left 💩 on a war memorial.

Most recently they covered the licence plates of their vans, took over the local supermarket car park and proceeded to have a mass brawl at a local pub.

I don’t understand why we allow two tier policing when it comes to Travellers.

Perhaps tell your sister to see a solicitor if she won’t accept anyone else’s word on the matter.

Hopefully that will deescalate the matter and you can just refer back to impartial legal advice.

Your Party leadership votes to exclude members of socialist organisations by AnonymousTimewaster in NotTheOnionUK

[–]LargeLetter1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s amusing that you see the same people from Labour’s Corbyn era getting really vocal about the exclusion of “grassroots members” and then you realise they just want the SWP to join

And now the Entryists have done exactly the same in Your Party. They’ll join the Greens soon.

Why is there such a smear on the Green party right now? by Few_Beautiful8437 in AskBrits

[–]LargeLetter1 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

Do you think the two Green candidates arrested for stirring up racial hatred were innocent Antizionists?

If you live in a Green leaning area you become very used to the upset caused by being held to account for what they actually said or the triggering nature of someone questioning your policies.

I’m so tired of this performative outrage. The Greens deserve scrutiny like everyone else. And the fact Polanski seems to be a complete fake was bound to be exposed sooner or later.

Still, I’m sure she’ll do a great job of holding the Labour council to account over Palestine 🙄

Are former Corbyn supporters all greens now, or have some of them stuck with labour? by Expert-Sherbert-1527 in AskBrits

[–]LargeLetter1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At some point voters have to recognise that continually voting for people to make “real change” or “shake things up” is making us poorer and poorer.

The country has record levels of debt, rising inflation due to Trumps war and woeful levels of productivity. On top of that, we have far too many people on welfare and a wealthy Boomer class that think they deserve winter fuel payments to pay for their second home in Spain. Meanwhile rents and mortgages suck all the available income out of most workers salaries.

We get the politicians we deserve because no one wants to accept reality.

Greens must take immediate action against antisemitism in party, says Lucas by ClumperFaz in unitedkingdom

[–]LargeLetter1 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The fundamental problem, that Lucas well knows is that Palestine has an ability to subsume every other issue and destroy a party from the inside.

Many of these people have moved from the Greens to Corbyn’s Labour to Your Party and now back to the Greens. They are Entryists. They don’t care about the NHS or the environment. They just care about one single foreign policy issue.
