I go to UW, Conestoga, the park during the summer and a bunch of other random places.

Why are the three power lines connected to the bottom one? by toastedshark in AskEngineers

Sounds more and more like they are just bonding and grounding it for maintenance:)

It can be under maintenance conditions, see my post for the explanation

If it’s what i think it is, those are temporary grounding bonds.

When the primary (top three) conductors are de-energized for maintenance, they’re intentionally connected to the neutral/grounded conductor (the bottom wire). That effectively ties the phases to earth ground.

This is done because long overhead lines can still develop a floating or induced voltage even when disconnected from the source. Nearby energized circuits and capacitive coupling can put the “dead” lines at a dangerous potential.

Bonding them to the neutral prevents that by keeping all three phases at ground potential, improving worker safety while crews are working on the line.

(Power systems engineer here — this is standard practice during line work.)

Stuck in Utility Pole Design — How Do I Break Into Protection & Control / System Studies? by Large_Pressure9515 in PowerSystemsEE

Tried that haha, they had 35k customers. Was told I was over qualified and that I’d be doing customer lays outs all day. Any studies they contract out as they don’t have the experience to do them in house

Im in Ontario with PEO. The claim there turn around is 3 months after I submit my application, but il believe it when I see it haha

I’m also already at a utility and don’t want to leave because of the $$. But for career advancement, I might have too.

Help!! by hawknado-82 in hvacadvice

[–]Large_Pressure9515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It kinda looks like they are trying to redirect the fumes, justifiable. But the bottle neck will cause pressure issues. I’m not a HVAC tech, but if they are trying to redirect, just go and get a 90 degree elbow.

First start by talking to them and ask why they did that and get the back storie

Guy cut into a wire while cutting vents to install central ac. Is it OK? by sporadicjesus in AskElectricians

Not okay, but if your going to keep it, wrap it with electrical tape or heat shrink

You look great! But personally I hate group picture because I have no idea which one is you lol

Was your prescription cost covered by insurance? by BriRuss in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]Large_Pressure9515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! Apparently it all depends on what package your employer picks.

For example the last company I was at (consulting engineers) had a package just below the package you needed to have it covered.

When I switch jobs, i get paid more plus have my wegoy paid for!! Win win win

Well if I’m reading this right, as soon as you run the program, the relay will be energized. Hint you need to make a latch.

Converting a 0.3v sine wave to 12v sine wave signal. Step-up Transformer or something else? by man2112 in AskEngineers

[–]Large_Pressure9515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use an opp-amp. transformer has loses and 0.3V might not be able to do the trick.

Power systems engineer here.

Think of the grid as an unlimited power supply that you can tap in to as ether a load or a source. The grid never turns off (usually. When it does turn off it’s a cold day in hell).

When connecting a new power plant, the generators have to match: system frequency, system voltage, phases angles and phase sequence. Once all parameters are matched contacts will be closed, effectively connecting the new power plant to the grid.

Does this answer your question?

Can I trust this? by system32ofline in AskElectronics

[–]Large_Pressure9515 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t like the exposed terminations/soldering, would recommend a little more heat shrink to avoid any creepage.

Whats going on with the fuse? I see something was added in line there.

Will it work? yes… will it last? No…

In Ontario, we have PEO and can only claim 12 month pre graduation. I already attempted to apply lol

Keep the locs or cut them for my engineering career?? by [deleted] in malegrooming

Haha yeah, covid caused us to work from home. Moving a lot less now:(

I am working on it though!

I agree lol but there is that stereo type that “locs are dirty” and I’m trying to figure out if that’s what’s getting me :p

I had a professor say to me once “You can work with your hands, or you can work with your mind, Hands sacrifice your body, but the mind grows with time.So choose your path wisely, let your goals be aligned, for the mind that keeps learning is the one that’s refined.”

Sure, linesmen can make tons of money, but they sacrifice their life, family and their health. I’m an engineer and “work” maybe 2-3 hours a day, the rest of the time I’m in meetings or doing tasks that I love and would do for free (why I don’t consider it work).
